02.01.2022 Good morning, Juniper and Curtin University have a close affiliation and I am pleased to be able to support their request for volunteers to help the next generation of health professionals become confident talking with people in the wise and sensible age group - thats you!!! Please respond directly to Diana Diana Massera on 0409 113 135 or email [email protected] if you are able to help out.... Do you have a few hours of time to spare? The School of Occupational Therapy and Social Work is looking for volunteers to attend the Juniper Simulation Centre and help Occupational Therapy students with their learning. The Simulation Centre is a collaboration between Curtin Uni and Juniper and provides a safe learning environment to hone their interpersonal skills with an age cohort they may not be used to interacting with, but will certainly face in their career. Your role as a volunteer will be to engage in a conversation with two students to enable them to practice their interviewing and conversation skills whilst other students, in a separate room, will observe and give feedback. No skills are required apart from the ability to answer some questions and talk a bit about yourself. Its an informal and relaxed environment, facilitated by a Curtin staff member. The Juniper Simulation Centre is located at Juniper Rowethorpe, Cnr Adie Court and Centenary Drive, Bentley and is a modern facility designed to look like a home and is equipped with a kitchen, lounge and bedroom. The students will pretend to visit you, the volunteer, in your home and engage in a conversation with you as though they are undertaking an Occupational Therapy assessment. These sessions give second year students the opportunity to practice their skills in a safe and friendly environment before they head into the workforce and theyre a great way to ensure the next generation of health care providers have every opportunity to learn before they end up caring for us! There are various sessions available during March, April and May 2020. They run for approx. 3 hours, 9:00am to 12:00pm or 1:00 to 4:00pm. There are plenty of breaks and tea/coffee biscuits are provided. If you are interested in coming along or wish to find out more please contact Diana Massera on 0409 113 135 or email [email protected] Best wishes Tim Law Coordinator, Volunteer Services tel: 08 9240 0314 313 Main Street Balcatta WA 6021 www.juniper.org.au/volunteering [email protected]
