25.01.2022 The Perth International Arts Festival would like to thank you for your support, patience and understanding over The Giants weekend. The Festival team always knew Perth would fall in love with Royal de Luxes magnificent Giants but the welcome they received from our city has truly taken our breath away. An audience of 1.4 million experienced The Incredible and Phenomenal Journey of The Giants to the Streets of Perth, including visitors from around Australia and the world. Over... three days the narrative, devised and directed by Jean-Luc Courcoult, wove together a commemoration of the Centenary of Anzac and a celebration of the Aboriginal community of Western Australia, and above all united a city in child-like wonder. Perth Festival Artistic Director Jonathan Holloway said: They say it takes a village to raise a child, but it takes a city to raise a Giant. Perth came together for this event and everyone embraced it. This is one of the largest examples of the extraordinary transformational quality of art. It has been widely accepted that Perth will never forget the weekend that it walked with Giants. This incredible event could not have been made possible without the hard work and support of a veritable army of artists, volunteers, community groups, including the RSL and the Noongar community of Perth, along with the vision and support of our sponsors and donors. The Festival would also like to acknowledge the tremendous support it received from key agencies including City of Perth and City of Vincent, Main Roads, Transperth, WA Police, the Department of Fire and Emergency Services and St John Ambulance, who were invaluable in assisting with the delivery of this event. To the businesses in the City of Perth and Vincent, the Festival also says a Giant thank you. The Festival appreciates the enormous amount of interruption the event caused to many but believes the reward came in an unprecedented amount of business for the city. See more
24.01.2022 ONE OF THE LONGEST WHALE WATCHING SEASONS IN THE WORLD Western Australia has one of the longest whale watching seasons in the world, following the epic annual migration of humpback, southern right whales and the rare blue whale, from the food-rich Southern Ocean to warm breeding grounds on the north Kimberley coast. SEVEN MONTHS OF SENSATIONAL VIEWING... The season begins in May and finishes in December, watching the whales as they swim along the continental shelf, hugging the coastline. In some areas, the playful giants come so close to shore, you can see them clearly through your binoculars from vantage points and viewing towers along the coast. The best time to observe these gentle giants of the ocean is at midday, when the sun is directly overhead. To get closer to the breaching, spy-hopping and tail-slapping action, jump aboard one of the many whale watching cruises available.

18.01.2022 Because it is a migration (north to south), the season can only start and continue while the whales are here (usually mid-September through early December - it ...all depends on the whales!). Why dont you come and enjoy an informative, interesting and exciting narrative given by our Whale Watching crew aboard one of our vessels as you view these magnificent mammals making their yearly migration through our coastal waters!! There are generally three types of baleen whales seen off the coast of Western Australia. The Humpback Whale (so named because it arches its back as it prepares to dive so creating the shape of a hump). The Southern Right Whale (so named because in the old days of whaling, whalers considered this whale the right one to hunt as it swam very slowly and was therefore easy to catch and because its body was so rich in oil, it floated on the surface after it had been killed) The Blue Whale which is coloured a steely grey on the surface but when seen from below is a beautiful turquoise blue. It is the largest of the Whales, reaching up to 100 feet in length and 130 tonnes in weight. The blue whale is the loudest animal on Earth! This endangered mammal is also the largest animal that ever lived on Earth; it is larger than any of the giant dinosaurs were. What are you waiting for! Book your cruise now!

12.01.2022 The 2015 Perth International Arts Festival (13 February to 7 March) will open with a spectacular free event to commemorate the Anzac centenary entitled The Incr...edible and Phenomenal Journey of The Giants to the Streets of Perth. The Giants is a three-day event taking place from 13-15 February on the streets and in the parks of Perth that will be talked about for years to come. Delivered by the worlds leading large-scale storytellers, The Giants will be the largest event in Australia to commemorate the centenary of Anzac and the biggest free public arts event Western Australia has ever seen. The Giants involves a moving parade on the streets of Perths CBD and is expected to attract one million attendances over the three days. As a result, there will be significant traffic delays over this period and road closures will be in place. The event is focused on the east side of the City encompassing an area from Barrack Street to Bennett Street, and Newcastle Street to Langley Park. Road closures will be rolling, moving with the parade to minimise the impact on traffic. The Perth International Arts Festival is committed to opening the roads once they are clear and safe. Closures will last for periods of 30 minutes to two hours over the course of Friday 13 and Saturday 14 February 2015. On Sunday 15 February, the closures will be isolated to sections of Riverside Drive, Terrace Road and Plain Street. See more
