25.01.2022 Whats the trend for weddings here in Perth in 2017? Casual outdoor weddings are certainly the ongoing trend this year. There are several reasons for this: It is cheaper to hold a wedding in an outdoor area then booking an indoor space, you can have large numbers without the space becoming crowded, you normally have ample free parking and easy access to the venue and last but not least You get some amazing pictures during the service. Why not have a look round some of the open spaces near you? You will be surprised at the number of beautiful sites available to you and in most cases a council license is free or cost just a few dollars!

25.01.2022 I am just about to sit my mandatory Ongoing Professional Development program. (OPD) Why do we have to do this every year? There is a lot of legal "stuff" that seems to change quietly in the background so one of the benefits is to keep up with the legalities and of course sitting down with 15 to 20 other celebrants is a great way to find out other issues that they have encountered. Forewarned as they say....... So the reason for this post is to make sure you know to ask your celebrant if they have completed there "OPD" and are up to date with the latest changes and requirements.

23.01.2022 Summers coming and so are the flys! It seems it is always the small things that seem to start things off when things go wrong... Flys and mosquitos are certainly small however they can soon spoil a great day. Give the ushers some chemical free repellent - www.ozziemozzie.com.au is an awesome product that I have used which actually works, and give everyone a quick spray as they arrive. A few citronella torches (Keep within the fire warning advice for the area) can not only look good they can help keep the pesky little buggers out of everyones hair!

22.01.2022 This is my stand out picture of Phil and Tammy - If you were there the rain could not dampen the sparks that were flying between you two. It was a privilege to marry two great people so deeply in love.

22.01.2022 Now the wedding is over it is time for the honeymoon! It amazes me that whilst a wedding may cost $20,000 plus, the honeymoon is often left somewhat to the last minute. If you want to have a honeymoon of a life time why not use a honeymoon gift service? Try out www.travelandcruise.com.au They have a great bridal register where you can contribute to a honeymoon of a lifetime. They will thank you for it.

21.01.2022 One of the nice things about getting married is planning your new home. Like most people this will be one of the biggest investments you will make in your entire lifetime. (apart from your marriage that is)! When you are planning to buy or build you should consider making sure you have the best information available to make the right decisions with. I have had experience with two great businesses which I would like to share with you. One is Andrew Booth Building Inspector ww...w.abbc.net.au who will inspect the home and ensure you are getting what you are paying for and identify any issues in a detailed report. The other business is My Build Consulting. www.mybuildconsulting.com.au Sheran will go over any contracts you have for new homes or renovations with builders / trades and report an any issues that can save you some money. She also ensures the contract is actually legal! Good stuff to know when money is tight and saving anything is a bonus! See more

21.01.2022 So what are your thoughts on the Royal Wedding?

21.01.2022 For those about to get married .... Remember you need to have your celebrant and have the NOIM started at least 31 days before the wedding date or you will need to get a special license...Expensive....

20.01.2022 Hot days and warm nights are all very nice however if you dont prepare for this with some simple "to do" items the big day can soon turn into the day people remember for all the wrong reasons. Make sure the bride and groom have a bottle of water about 20 mins before the wedding. Have water available for friends and family as well as some inexpensive fans. Keep up the water for at least an hour after the wedding. And remember to keep those flys at bay with some deterrent available for every one when they arrive at the venue. Try Ozzie Mozzie this really works!

20.01.2022 A recent wedding I attended down by the swan river was absolutely awesome... until the bride fainted as she was walking down to the aisle. She was OK after a 20 minute "sit down" in the shade. It turned out she had not had anything to eat or drink due to being so excited. In the 28 degree heat the result of this was quickly realised. So guys if you plan to have your ceremony outside in the heat make sure that you eat a little bit and drink a lot of water. Having water available to your friends and family is also a great idea as the last thing you want is to have someone else taking the spotlight off of you when they take a nose dive because they had a little too much sun!

20.01.2022 How do you decide who gets a job or mentioned at your wedding? With family and friends it is sometimes easy to upset someone who thinks they should have been included in the run up to or the service itself! Remember this is YOUR day NOT theirs! However saying this there is a simple way to keep people happy. When you send out your invites add a note that says something like "due to the fact that you have so many relatives and friends you will not be able to include or mentio...n everyone in the service. We both appreciate your input in our lives and look forward to continuing this into our future. So remember we have not forgotten you as you will find out at the reception"! At the reception have the DJ or Master of Ceremonies dedicate a song to each person you wish to mention. If you have a short story regarding them this can also be used by the DJ /MC to make it even more personnel. See more

19.01.2022 At last, Love, understanding, compassion and justice has won the day. I would like to think that the government will act swiftly on this and make the possibility for all people in love to marry sooner than later. As a celebrant I shudder to think how long it will take to make the changes in the documentation that will be required and what guidelines we will be given to make sure we complete this correctly. I am looking forward to my first same sex marriage as I know hundreds ...of thousands of couples across the country are as well. If you were a NO supporter I trust that you can respect the decision the majority of Australians have made even though you do not agree with it. I feel strongly everyone has a right to believe in whatever they want to and act within social acceptance on that belief. This has been well demonstrated with this vote outcome today.

19.01.2022 How is this for a proposal? Not many people go to this much trouble, do you have any interesting proposals you would like to share with us?

19.01.2022 Hi ya Ross sure is buddy. Still have the horse business I see! Hows life?

19.01.2022 You need to be on the lookout for some great deals this year. I have noticed that Perth venues especially are marketing very hard to get your business. So why not shop around and then ask what they can do for you to make them the only choice for your wedding venue!

17.01.2022 Well it is that time again, Fathers day... What has this to do with getting Married? Not a lot really, however, once the knot is tied and the family starts it is always a really nice thing to buy a little something from the children to there dad. If that little thing happens to be something that the children can play with as well, what a perfect present that would be. I had a remote controlled helicopter ($20 from Big W) and as a family we have had hours of fun with it both flying it and fixing it after the many crash landings we all managed to complete!

17.01.2022 I was the celebrant for a wedding on Saturday held at booyeembara Park in Fremantle. What a great venue and one of the best kept secrets on what to do in Fremantle! The weather was perfect and the 100 plus attending had a ball catching up and having a laugh, making the service one of fun and positive memories. I am sure Martin and Alice will have a life full of fun and great experiences together. A wonderful way to start there new life together.

15.01.2022 At last some compassion and common sense to Marriage! And, a free marriage service for one lucky couple... For too long those of us who prefer the same sex were unable to publicly and lawfully proclaim how they felt and that they had a commitment to their partner exactly the same as "normal relationships". I am, like the majority of Australians see no wrong in people loving each other and creating an environment where a family can grow and meet their true potentials. I would ...like to express my approval of the new laws by marrying a couple for free. Yep everything included no more to pay! Anyone booking a wedding between the 1st Dec and the 1st Feb will enter a draw and the lucky winner will have there wedding service undertaken free of charge. See more

15.01.2022 People change, trends change and laws change! however the reason why people get married seems to stay the same. What is it that makes a marriage work? Commitment and trust. Without this their is little use getting married as it will not stand the test of time. It is my belief that getting married is a public acknowledgment of these two elements. For those with religious beliefs then marriage has meaning outside these elements, however I cannot think of a religion where these concepts are not part of the overall belief system practiced. So if you are thinking of marriage can you commit to your partner 100% and trust them with your future? Simple questions with serious meaning.

14.01.2022 Im interested to know what you think about this current trend towards holding your wedding overseas in places like Bali and Thailand. Have you ever taken part in one?

13.01.2022 A very happy Mothers Day to all the lovely Mums out there

12.01.2022 Remember to check with the local council if you are planning to marry in a public place. It is very embarrassing if you are asked to move on because someone else did make arrangements and have priority over the space. It does happen so be aware and check before you commit!

12.01.2022 As they say "time and tide wait for no man" When you decide to get married the effort to get things done is huge. Sharing the tasks with family and friends is one great way to reduce the stress and make this happen faster. The only words of caution would be to; make sure you give the right tasks to the right people, that the instructions are clear and contain a timeline and that they keep you informed on progress. With this in mind you can plan your wedding day, involve those who matter to you and do it in easy "chunks" Happy days....

11.01.2022 Congratulations to Jane and Keven on finally getting married after 26 years of making up your minds. It was a pleasure being your wedding celebrant and being so close to the"vibe" Enjoy the UK and Ireland honeymoon....

10.01.2022 Congratulations to Cameron and Chenda on their wedding on Sunday. The weather was superb and so was the ceremony. I really enjoyed the privilege of marrying you. All the best for your future life together.

06.01.2022 In the heat of summer weddings can go avoidably wrong! Why? Both parties need to eat before the wedding - You would be surprised at the number of brides and grooms who faint during the service! Drink water at least 15 minutes before the service starts to keep hydrated - again helps to stop fainting and that awful dry mouth that seems to stop words from coming out no matter how hard you try!... Ask your visitors to turn off mobiles and the "click sound" on tablets and mobiles when taking pictures. If the service is outdoors then find some shade to conduct the service or create a shady area with a pop up shade or umbrella. Make sure your couple are not facing directly into the sun. Sounds so obvious doesnt it, however there is nothing worse than having to move the couple and guests in the middle of the service so they are not squinting during the service!

05.01.2022 It is an interesting time for people in love that at the moment are only allowed to have a "commitment service" due to there sex alone. With the new bill going through the system I sure hope common sense prevails, and the tens of thousands of same sex couples who are as much in love as any other segment of society are allowed to legally marry and enjoy the recognition they deserve.

04.01.2022 I guess one of the most important things to get right for your wedding is the photographer. With the right person behind the lens the results can not only be stunning but insightful as well. Being able to capture expressions just at the right moment or the hardest of all - emotions requires years of experience, natural talent and timing! Couple this with the ability to control the shoot without upsetting any of the wedding party and you will truly have a day to remember. My w...ife and I are very lucky in having found that person 40 years ago when we got married and we still get that leather bound album out and remember the times we were slim, wrinkle free and all our families were still with us. With this in mind I do not recommend photographers lightly. With Kate and Megan from Verge Studios (www.vergestudio.com.au) I can assure you that you are in safe hands. From the planning to delivery of your memories they look after you as if you were family. Why not check them out and have a chat. You wont be sorry! See more

04.01.2022 So What is the minimum needed to be legally married in Western Australia? Not a lot really. You need a state approved marriage Celebrant (used to be called civil celebrants) They will help fill out the Notice of intent to marry , sight the required documents and witness it. This must be completed at least 1 calendar month prior to the wedding date.... You both then need to sign and have witnessed a statuary declaration supplied by the celebrant before the wedding service. During the service the celebrant must say a legally required paragraph and vows are then exchanged. Thats it. If you want to change your name (either party) you can do this after the event by completing a change of name form and pay currently $49 to Births, Deaths and Marriages. To find out more why not drop me an instant message.

02.01.2022 I have just been in touch with Stirling city council to confirm a location for a renewal of vows service was OK. Interesting run around for nearly 30 minutes before being told we did not need to do anything! Different councils require different levels of notice and even payment in some cases. If you have an outside location in mind make sure that the relevant council permissions / fees have been applied for and completed. One of the good things that booking a time and place with the council is that if someone else tries to use the venue at the same time all you need to do is call the ranger and they will move them on for you. You do not need to get involved - Who wants hassle on there wedding day that can be avoided!!!!!

02.01.2022 Wet weather and cold winds can make any event "one to forget" With a little planing however you can make your wedding "weather proof" with a few forward thinking steps. If your wedding is planned for the great outdoors then have a quick assemble 3m x 3m shade with sides standing by. Your guests can use umbrellas so everyone stays dry. If the wedding is at a wedding venue then arrange a wet weather option when you book the venue. Doing this at the same time can often mean you can work a deal to reduce your overall costs. Last but not least buy several golf umbrellas in your wedding colours so even if the heavens open you will still have some great looking photos where the umbrellas become part of the picture - not the focus of the picture!

01.01.2022 Who does what at the wedding service? This is often not as easy as you might like to wish for. There is always family politics at play and if you miss someone out or get the wrong person(s) doing a job you can soon start a war that gets out of control all to quickly! So who does what and what is expected from them? I have found this neat outline article that answers these questions really well. I hope you get some useful insights from it.... https://www.thespruce.com/whos-who-in-the-wedding-party-348
