25.01.2022 Always Was, Always Will Be. That's the theme of this year's NAIDOC week - an important time for recognition and celebration of our State and country's rich cult...ural history. First Nations people have occupied and cared for Australia for over 65,000 years, and that history can teach us so much about our beautiful, unique country. There are a range of events as part of NAIDOC week - for more information and to find an event near you, visit: http://www.naidoc.org.au

24.01.2022 #BREAKING | No new COVID-19 cases have been recorded in WA for August 3, 2020.

23.01.2022 UPDATE 4pm 3/8/2020: TAS borders now closed until at least 31 August. More changes this week. Some good, some not so much. Stay safe everyone Aus deals for intrastate travel here https://bit.ly/3gpHoFD

22.01.2022 While restrictions may have started to ease, the economic challenge from the pandemic and the restrictions we needed to put in place remains. That includes our ...construction industry, where the pipeline of new projects has slowed dramatically, putting local jobs at risk in the coming months. If we take action, we can help to mitigate or avoid the potential damage. But we need your help. If you have been thinking about building - now is the time to get it underway and support local jobs. To help get new homes under construction, we're introducing $20,000 Building Bonus grants for any Western Australia to build a new house or purchase a property in a single-tier development already under construction. The grants will be available until the end of the year, and will not be means tested and have no cap on property value. They will be on top of the Federal Government's HomeBuilder Grants, as well as WAs First Home Owner Grants and first home buyer duty concession, meaning someone who qualifies for all four could access up to $69,440 in Government assistance to help build their first home. Simply put, these grants are about getting as many new projects off the ground as possible, and keeping as many WA jobs intact as we can. We're also making some changes to the 75% stamp duty rebate we introduced for new multi-tier developments last year. The rebate, which is capped at $25,000, will now also apply to purchases in multi-tiered developments already under construction, in addition to pre-construction contracts.

14.01.2022 Western Australia has done well in the fight against COVID-19, and put our State in an enviable position. That fight is far from over, but we must start to look... to how our economy emerges from this unprecedented crisis, and what we can do to keep our economy strong, and keep West Aussies in work. That's exactly what we've been doing - and today I'm proud to launch our $5.5 billion WA Recovery Plan that will create a pipeline of new jobs through innovative projects and initiatives across Western Australia. Over the coming weeks we'll be rolling out a string of announcements covering many areas of our economy. The unprecedented $5.5 billion investment will create thousands of local jobs in important sectors such as construction, manufacturing, tourism and hospitality, renewable energy, education and training, agriculture, mining and conservation. The plan has been developed in consultation with the State Recovery Advisory Group, which includes representatives from business, industry, notforprofit organisations, UnionsWA, the public sector, local government and the community. Full details on each element of the comprehensive WA Recovery Plan will be released in coming days and will be available at www.inthistogether.wa.gov.au This is all about getting Western Australians back to work and our State back on track. Western Australians managed the COVID-19 pandemic together as a community. Together, we will recover.

13.01.2022 The benefits of Western Australias success in managing COVID-19 were on display over the weekend - you all deserved it. People are back in work and our economy... is recovering, as life gets back to normal, under the watchful eye of our health experts. But we don't need to look far to know that the threat of COVID-19 is far from gone - the situation in Victoria is a sobering reminder of how easily the virus can start spreading through the community. It's also a timely reminder of how important our own hygiene and habits are to stopping it in its tracks. While our hard state and international borders are essential to keep the virus at bay, our most effective defence is our own personal vigilance. We all have a personal responsibility to do the right thing, now more than ever. With almost no restrictions left inside WA, we need to ensure we keep each other safe. Its pretty simple: Wash your hands regularly, with soap or sanitiser and for at least 20 seconds. Cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze using a tissue or flexed elbow. Stay home if youre sick - no excuses. Avoid unnecessary contact like handshakes or hugs. Wherever possible, try to keep physical distancing. It isn't always possible, but it is important that we continue to give each other space when we can - especially people we don't know. And most importantly, please get tested if you have a cough, a sore throat or a fever - if the virus is in the community, we need to know as soon as possible. All of these actions wont just keep you and your family safe, they keep the whole community safe, and help keep any future outbreaks of COVID-19 under control. And that will mean that we can have the confidence to keep doing the things we love and keep the good times going. Cheers WA!

For information on those changes and to see WA's roadmap, please visit www.wa.gov.au/covid19roadmap. While we are taking action to ease restrictions in Western Australia in line with expert health advice, we are also continuing to ensure that our State is ready for any future outbreaks of COVID-19 in Western Australia. The Western Australian health system and our hospitals are very well prepared to manage infectious disease situations and have well established systems and processes in place. The State Government is taking this very seriously and we need to remain prepared for a pandemic. Every action we take and decision we make is to protect Western Australians. It is important that we all continue to remain calm, vigilant and use common sense. The best thing we can do to protect ourselves is quality personal hygiene and exercise physical distancing by avoiding unnecessary personal contact. That includes covering coughs and sneezes, washing hands often with soap or sanitiser, staying home from work or school if unwell, avoiding shaking hands or hugging, and maintaining physical distance from others in public. Please also continue to follow the advice of authorities and doctors - anyone who is instructed to self-isolate must take the order seriously, stay home and not put others at risk. ---- Official information regarding COVID-19 in Western Australia - www.wa.gov.au/covid19 WA Department of Health information www.healthywa.wa.gov.au National Coronavirus Helpline 1800 020 080 WA COVID-19 health and information and advice - 13 COVID (13 26843) Smartraveller information regarding travel advice for Australians - www.smartraveller.gov.au

04.01.2022 Margaret River is set for its first five-star hotel, demonstrating a strong future for WA tourism. The Westin Margaret River Resort & Spa announced this morning... will be located on the southern headland of Gnarabup Beach, including 120 guest rooms, on-site dining venues, and meeting and event space. Marriott International is the worlds largest hospitality company, and its commitment to WA tourism despite the current environment demonstrates important, long-term confidence in the State. The hotel is being designed by WA architect Christou Design Group, with WA companies Saracen Properties and Security Capital Australia carrying out the joint development of the project. It will feature views over the Indian Ocean, access to the Cape to Cape and other local attractions, and its on-site dining options will support local producers by sourcing local produce from around the region. It will create about 300 jobs during construction and approximately 100 ongoing jobs once open in 2023. This is a vote of confidence for Margaret River and an extremely positive sign for WA tourism.
