24.01.2022 Today is Thank U NICU Day! Held each November, Thank U NICU Day gives us a chance to say thanks and acknowledge our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Special Care Nursery (SCN) staff and the miracle families they care for. Our wonderful staff at King Edward Memorial Hospital and Perth Children’s Hospital care for our littlest patients, with more than 3,000 babies admitted annually. We are extremely proud of our highly skilled and dedicated teams who provide specialised... treatment to care for the unique needs of newborn babies and extend that care to the parents and carers of these brand new humans. Valenteena and baby Amana are three of our stellar Registered Nurses in the NICU (L-R) Bethannie, Dragana and Marie.

23.01.2022 Tell us what you think about a Purple Book app We are looking for parents of newborn - 4 year olds to tell us what they think of a Purple Book app. All children who are born in WA get a Purple Book to record things like their weight, height and Child Health appointments. We would like to understand if this would be easier to use and access as an app on your phone or device.... The online consultations are being held on 1 December (10.30 - midday, 7pm - 8.30pm) online. You will receive a voucher for taking part. Register at the link below. https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx

22.01.2022 Respiratory disease is the leading cause of death in children with cerebral palsy, but clinicians and researchers at PCH, in partnership with Ability Centre, are hoping to make that history. Their latest effort is generating worldwide interest and shows promising signs of helping cerebral palsy kids breathe easier. Thanks to Cerebral Palsy Alliance for funding this project and our research partners at The Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne, Children's Health Queensland, Syd...ney Children's Hospital, Randwick and Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Adelaide. https://www.cahs.health.wa.gov.au/News/2020//12/CP-research https://www.abc.net.au//healthy-lungs-key-to-help/12873192

20.01.2022 To make our Aboriginal families feel more welcome on Ward 3B - Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, a new piece of Aboriginal art has been revealed. The Aboriginal Health team at PCH organised a yarning session with families to talk about what makes them welcomed in hospital. They agreed on a piece of art and the commissioned result is the amazing 'Rainbow Sunset' by Deborah Bonar-Mills. Deborah Bonar-Mills wrote about her artwork and the meaning behind it:... "In the Dreamtime, Goolarbool the powerful Rainbow Serpent created the rivers, billabongs and waterholes of Gija country and filled them with water containing spirit children. The spirit children changed into animals that lived around the waterholes. Before a child is conceived, a particular animal appears to the father, or sometimes to the mother, in a dream. The spirit child leaves the animal and enters the mother's womb. That animal becomes the child's totem and he or she will have a strong spiritual connection to the animal, the waterhole and the surrounding country that their spirit came from."
