22.01.2022 Dentures - Stages in Fabrication A denture is a custom made dental appliance that artificially replaces missing teeth and tissues. Prior to the construction of a denture, a full oral examination is necessary to determine your dental needs. The Prosthetist can then advise you of the most appropriate denture that meets your requirements. It is the practice of Perth Denture Solutions to allow a minimum of five visits to complete a denture. More appointments may be needed if you... require a chrome (metal) denture. The Appointments Schedule; 1st visit - Preliminary Impressions are taken to record the shape of your upper and lower jaws in standard trays. From these impressions, a special tray is constructed which accurately fits the denture bearing area. 2nd visit - Final Impressions The special tray is used to take a highly accurate impression of your denture bearing tissue. 3rd visit - Bite Relations Wax rims are sculpted to establish your bite. The size, shape and shade of the teeth, are selected in consultation with the patient. 4th visit - Try-in. Teeth are set into the wax base and the denture appears as the final product. The Prosthetist and patient check the appearance and position of the teeth. It is very important to advise the Prosthetist of any modifications that you wish at this stage as no changes can be made after this appointment. 5th visit - Insert The denture is fitted. Small modifications may be necessary to ensure a comfortable fit. Instructions will be given on how best to take care of your new dentures. It is perfectly normal to have some sore spots with a new denture, and you may need to return for your denture to be adjusted. See more

19.01.2022 How long do dentures last? If cared for properly, dentures should last a minimum of 5 years. Over time, the bone shrinks and causes the denture to become loose. The rate that this happens varies with each person, but can be controlled by visiting a Denturist regularly to ensure that the denture is fitting properly. An ill-fitting denture causes the bone to shrink more rapidly. To prolong the tenure of a denture, a Denturist will often use a denture liner to refit the internal surface of the denture to the oral tissues. Minor fractures in the teeth or acrylic base can usually be repaired by a dental lab the same day. Repairing the denture properly can be complicated, however, so if denture problems are noticed, it is best to contact a Denturist as soon as possible to arrange the denture repair.

14.01.2022 SPLINTS GRINDING/BRUXISM While teeth grinding, or bruxism, caused by clenched jaw muscles, does occur while youre awake, sleep bruxism is more difficult to treat, as many patients are unaware that they even have the problem. The issue is so common, though, that dentist Dr. Lana Rozenberg says one in four of her patients teeth show some type of wear pattern consistent with grinding. Its also often only detected when seeking treatment for symptoms like headaches, facial or ...jaw pain, or worn-down teeth, or if a bed partner notices the grinding sound. And though teeth grinding was thought to be the result of jaw or teeth misalignment. Weve learned thats really not the case. People are wired to be grinders, and if theyre grinders, there are certain things that can make it worse. Among these exacerbating factors are stress and anxiety, caffeine, alcohol, and certain medications. If you do suspect that youre grinding your teeth at night, the best thing to do is visit the dentist for a full evaluation. In the meantime, or if your grinding is a problem associated with periods of high stress or poor sleep. Why Get a Splint Treatment? If you suffer from bruxism you need a splint to prevent: Chipping, wearing and eventual fracture and loss of your teeth and the overall functionality of your mouth. Patients who suffer from Bruxism often find everyday activities like chewing painful, the splints take the pressure of your teeth which makes eating far easier. Problems such as jaw pain, headaches, tenderness, muscle tightness and TMD that can have debilitating effects on your day to day life. Getting a splint is an incredibly effective way of addressing and preventing this pain and helping you to enjoy life more. The need to engage in expensive dental and surgical treatments that often needed in cases of severe and prolonged Bruxism. For example, wearing a splint / mouth guard at night will prevent your teeth from wearing down which can save you from having to get expensive treatments such as crowns, bridges and even dental implants in the case of tooth loss. Bruxism, or teeth grinding, is a common condition that can have devastating impacts on the health of teeth and the mouth. Bruxism most commonly occurs at night, while we are sleeping. It is often result of stress or anxiety and because it occurs unconsciously it is difficult to treat. Grinding places enormous pressure and stress on the teeth as well as the muscles and bones that make up your face and jaw. Sufferers often report aching jaws, headaches and even temporomandibular disorders (TMD). If left untreated teeth can be chipped, loosened and even fractured
