07.01.2022 As it is International Beer Day, we have decided to give thanks to some of the Perth Hills establishments that brought you the original Sunday Session Before 1922 in Perth you could only buy alcohol on Sundays if you were a traveller. An amendment was made to exclude pubs that were more than 20 miles as the crow flies from Perth Town Hall. These included the Chidlow Tavern, the Mount Helena Tavern and Sawyers Valley Tavern who were able to serve up frothys for a few hours. ...Everyone piled into their cars and sometimes wagons for a cheeky middy or two In the 1960s the law was again updated to 20 miles by road to include the Mundaring Weir Hotel, Mundaring Hotel, Mahogany Inn and the Parkerville Tavern. Starting at the main picnic area of the John Forrest National Park, the trail follows the edge of the Glen Brook Dam with scenic views over the water.... The track is surrounded by a forest of eucalyptus and grasstrees, with masses of wildflowers in spring. Featuring little footbridges and a shelter built in the 1930s, there are surprises throughout. You may even spot a kangaroo or two! The John Forrest Tavern is close by for pre-hike sustenance or a post-hike beverage, and if you didnt spot Skippy on the trail, the local kangaroos are guaranteed to be sunning themselves in the beer garden.
