22.01.2022 Although we can't yet get together and swim as a pack, we can get into the pool as individuals back at Swan Active. They have created a Phase 2 membership which is pro-rata depending on when you sign up and equates to about $1 a day. This allows you to register for pool and group fitness time slots. Lane time is limited to from 1:30pm till 7:30pm (M-F). Each slot is 45 minutes.... Get your membership here: https://yourswanactive.swan.wa.gov.au And follow the prompts to book time slots once your membership is activated. Rules from Swan are as follows: Attending Pool Sessions (including Aqua Fitness Classes) Online bookings for Pool sessions on June 2, will open from 9am Thursday 28 May. To attend the pool, you must book a timeslot before every visit. (Bookings can be made up to 20 hours in advance) Please do not enter Swan Active more than 5 minutes before your allocated class. Please note change room facilities are not available during this period. Come ready to swim and leave without changing.

21.01.2022 We would like to make sure all our members and supporters are aware of new public health measures enacted yesterday (full link below) to prevent the spread of Covid19 in our community. Of particular note for the triathlon community is the direction that people should not engage in Affected Activities including a gathering of 2 or more people, who do not ordinarily reside at the same premises, for the purposes of engaging in a sporting activity together This incurs financial... penalties up to $20,000 for individuals and $100,000 for organisations. While triathlon is mainly an individual sport, we know that our clubs, coaches and club mates are one of the most important factors in motivating us to our individual success. These new government directions may be upsetting and it's ok to have those feelings. These are unprecedented times for most of us. But please remember that these measures are temporary, yet the impact they will have in saving the lives of people close to us are significant. Talk to your family and club mates about sharing ideas for training at home and motivating each other online. Our club, for one, is looking at virtual training and race options and please send us a PM if you would like more info.

19.01.2022 It's not a terrible bell view but it's not a patch on the one for tomorrow's trail run. Meet at 6 am at the Bellevue RSL in Purton Place and let the hills do the work for you. It hurts less with help but you can be helpless of you never hurt at all. Torches are a good idea for the first 10-15 minutes.

The season has officially started and if you haven't realised just how unfit the COVID off-season has made you don't worry you aren't far away from it! Good luck... Due to (lack of) popular demand there are a couple of changes to the calendar this month. Our online turbo is being dropped as an official session and Bushmead has been taken out of the run interval rotation. Thursday morning trail run is now strictly opt-in. This means that if nobody has responded to the Facebook event as "going" by 8pm the night before you will be running solo. 16.01.2022 Any coach that tells you they have some secret proprietary session that will give you a special edge on your competition is having a laugh at your expense. If you're not winning national titles (and I don't mean age-group) then doing the well established basics better, more consistently and for longer will be the unglamorous path to a better performance. That's why we "borrow" the tried and tested sessions of others, some are just more honest about it! Today's run session i...s one of the greats, stolen from one of the greats. Steve Moneghetti was told he wasn't wanted at Little Athletics but went on to become possibly Australia's greatest distance runner. Today we're presenting a session that he came up with in a conversation over the phone with his coach which has since become famous world-wide and now bears his name. The Mona-Fartlek, as it is known, is designed to improve speed AND endurance in the one session. It's a great one to throw into the mix for any distance but is ideal for those training for races up to 5km. With a main set of just 20 minutes you could be done in under 45 with warm-up and cool down, or back off the pace a little and go twice through! Mona-Fartlek 15-20min warm up 2 x 90sec hard, 90sec moderate (not too easy) 4 x 60sec hard, 60sec moderate 4 x 30sec hard, 30sec moderate 4 x 15sec hard, 15se moderate 10-15min cool down (or repeat) Now the beauty in this session is the number of ways you can complete it. If you just want to improve speed, go faster and back the recovery off more. If you want endurance then don't go so hard but don't drop the pace so much in the "rests". Speed up as the work repetitions get shorter or start harder and try to hold the pace. Fartlek is Swedish for "speed play", so have a little fun.

Due to the the State Duathlon Championships and the club's race simulation both being held tomorrow morning and the effect this will have on numbers, tomorrow's ride from Kelmscott is being cancelled. Instead the club would like to welcome all members to head down to Deep Water Point in Mt Pleasant to join any or all of the swim, cycle or run portions of the simulation. Join the big kids from Guildford at 6:30 for a couple of flat and fast hours along the Tonkin path.
