12.01.2022 We couldn’t not try this Hummus, but lighter, recipe! Hummus is by far one of the most nutritionally dense dips you can get out there. It’s made from chickpeas which are a great source of complete protein and high in fibre for happy gut bugs. If super foods were a legitimate concept (all plants are ‘super’) chickpeas and other legumes should definitely be it.... However Hummus- especially the store bought kind - is a serious calorie bomb from all the (healthy) oils in it. This recipe is for people who love the hummmus flavour but want to eat MORE without getting an entire meals worth of energy in a snack session. 1 tin chickpeas (drained) 1 tbsp tahini 1/2 cup chobani yoghurt 2 cloves garlic 2 tbsp lemon juice 1/2 tsp salt Blend together and add more salt/spices to taste. Serve with veggie sticks and toasted flatbread. Cumin, Smokey paprika Wash the chickpeas really well. Removing the skins may also help. Use garlic oil instead of garlic. Divide into at least 6 portions . ’ , Nina ! See more

08.01.2022 The Gluten free diet is BOOMING. Now more than ever people are turning to GF options for their health... but is it any healthier for you? Firstly, some background info...... ? Wheat is a type of grain. Most breads and pastries are made with wheat flour. Wheat (especially whole wheat) has many beneficial nutrients in it, such as fiber, proteins, carbohydrates and minerals. ? Gluten is a type of protein found in some grains (eg wheat, rye, barley and more). This protein is what is responsible for that streeetchhhh you get when you knead dough. It is important for the structural component of breads which is why GF foods are often more crumbly. ? Somewhere along the line people have grown to fear wheat and gluten. It stems from the promotion of fad diets such as no carb and paleo by people who have something to gain from it For most people, wheat and gluten is not only NOT harmful for your health, but actually beneficial! However, there are exceptions. Is ? Unless you have one of the above conditions there are no benefits to a GF diet. Gluten free foods are usually higher in sugar and fat, and lower in protein than the non GF options. New evidence also suggests people choosing a GF diet have lower gut microbiome diversity (a bad thing). ? People with Coeliac disease and wheat allergies now have soooo many more options compared to before it became a trend! Hooray for them!! ? People with a genuine reason to avoid these ingredients are no longer taken seriously, which risks food contamination. PLEASE dont say you have an allergy if you dont. Contact @nutritionparlour for more information.

08.01.2022 Just a friendly reminder to all our wonderful patients that we have a 24-hour cancellation policy. This just means we need to be aware of the cancelled appointment, 24 hours before it commences. It helps us to be able to phone our wait-list as there may be another patient requiring an urgent appointment. There is a $50 fee in place for patients who dont follow the policy, however this is assessed in a case-by-case scenario as we are aware things happen out of your control.

08.01.2022 What you DO with it is equally important as it’s size. Sometimes you’ve gotta slow down, mix things up, & add a little spice to feel fully satisfied! These 3 things play an important role in our appetite to help us feel satisfied and in control of our food choices. SLOW DOWN ... Stop what you’re doing and think about your meal, chew your food, and be present in the moment. It takes some time for your stomach to tell your brain it’s had enough food (20 minutes) so if you scoff it down without enjoying it and even realising you’re eating, you’re missing out on all these wonderful body sensations telling you you’re satisfied. MIX THINGS UP Aim for your snacks to have AT LEAST 2 macronutrients and your meals to have all 3. Carbs, fat, and protein each have their own satisfaction pathways or impact on digestion/fullness. If your meal has all these components AND fibre get ready to feel full and satisfied for a looooong time! ADD A LITTLE SPICE It’s not simply enough for your body to feel satisfied, your mind has to be satisfied too! Having boring food you don’t enjoy won’t ever hit the spot and will have you wanting more again later. Welcome to crave ville! Figuring out what feels good for YOU takes PRACTICE and EXPERIMENTATION For more nutritional and diet information, book in with @nutritionparlour today!

07.01.2022 Worried about eating too much over the festive season? Here are some tips to help you navigate yummy food platters from our dietitian, Nina! Eat from a plate ... Try avoid eating straight from the platter as it makes it difficult to know how much you have eaten Instead, fill your plate with your favourite foods, and try to make it balanced - eg a mix of whole foods and treats Eat your meals as usual Don’t skip meals in anticipation of eating from the platter or after you’ve eaten too much. This will set you up for grazing all day! Instead, eat something yummy from the platter WITH your meal or snacks, or pick substantial things to have in place of your usual meal/snack. Avoid the ‘drive-by’ This is when you walk by the platter and shove something in your mouth mindlessly- usually when you’re busy or working! Instead, every time you walk by the platter and want to eat something, put it on a plate instead to save it for when you can enjoy it properly!

02.01.2022 Stiff legs and back at this time of year?Hear from Jodie, our Exercise Physiologist. Here’s a quick and easy stretch you can do even if you’re super busy. It relaxes your legs and surprisingly in your back, because there are attachments pulling on it. It can be done against a wall even if you’re in the shower or talking to someone. When done right you will totally feel it. That’s because calves can get tight from walking around, sitting at work and even dancing at y...our Christmas parties . Put one foot angled up high on a wall or a pole, then step the other foot in closer underneath you. Wow and now you feel it. Do both sides for a few breaths. Another option is just to hang both ankles down low off the edge of a step that you’re standing on. Hold on so you don’t fall backwards. Enjoy, and you might just find that this becomes one of your go-to stretches.
