25.01.2022 WHAT IS MINDFULNESS? Our thoughts and feelings can bring us quality of life, but they also can give us trouble! What if we could learn a way to watch and allow challenging thoughts and emotions without them affecting our happiness. Mindfulness is the practice of non-judgmental awareness of one’s thoughts, feelings and sensations on a moment-to-moment basis. Research has found that it can both reduce stress, anxiety and depression and increase the experience of quality of life... and well-being. Mindfulness Training looks at specific skills and ways of dealing with thoughts and emotions in a mindful way - clearly and openly. You learn how to develop neutral, non-judgmental awareness of passing thoughts rather than get caught up in them. It also focuses on our emotional experience which includes feeling emotions while they pass so that you can have openness to good and bad feelings, and still maintain your well-being independent of events. If you would like to learn some Mindfulness skills why not join Perth Psychologists at 7:30pm at the At Community Centre for our Monday Mindfulness Sessions starting 15 Mar 2021. Register your interest at perthpsychologists.net.au/courses or call 1300 70 50 55. #mindfulness, #perthpsychologists, #findhelp, #mentalhealth, #wellbeing, #qualityoflife

24.01.2022 EVERYONE BELONGS - HARMONY DAY 2021 Perth Psychologists is celebrating Harmony Day. Harmony Day acknowledges and celebrates multiculturalism and diversity in our community. It is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all. This year’s theme is Everyone Belongs. ... Belonging is very important to individual and group psychology. Belonging and the desire for a sense of connection is a fundamental human motivation. Belonging and connection shapes our relationships with others, and is a key contributor to the function of social and societal groups, teams and communities. The experience of belonging is not dependent upon being with a group or close to other people. It comes from an individuals perception of the social connections, their meaning and quality. An absence of belonging has negative effects on people, both physically and psychologically. Creating communities, workplaces and teams that are diverse, culturally inclusive and that foster an environment that gives people a sense of belonging makes individuals and groups stronger. There are things we can do to improve our social connection, relationships and teamwork. If you are feeling isolated and struggling with relationships and connection our team at Perth Psychologists can assist you. If your workplace or community group team culture is not as strong as it could be in communication and connectedness then Perth Psychologists can offer some team training to assist to build your culture.
