24.01.2022 Geminids meteor shower wasnt quite up to expectations when I was out for a few hours but Lake Leschenaltia still looks lovely anyway. Do you think I can pass the planes off as slow meteors? Interesting to see the two timelapse videos and the differences after 6 months.

24.01.2022 Well, it was my birthday a couple of weeks ago and my lovely family bought me a Pluto Trigger and Valve so I could have a bash at droplet photography. After a delay due to them selling out due to their popularity, they finally arrived yesterday. With today being a public holiday I proceeded to sit down and have a bash. So here are my first results :) If youre interested in getting one of these devices yourself, here is a link that will give me a bit of a kick back (hint hint... :)) http://www.plutotrigger.com?afmc=1jf For this set up Im using: Nikon D7200 with Metz 32 flash and Lume Cube. 1/250s f11 100 iso

22.01.2022 I was fortunate to get an invite, out of the blue, to come along and take some pics at a Fire Performers Group: South of the River event. Taralee hosts these events weekly and welcomes everyone to come and participate (or take photos), check out their Facebook page and go along. From beginners to advanced, kids to grandparents, all are made to feel welcome. I had a great time shooting it and will definitely be back in the future to do it again.

22.01.2022 Had a great time (as usual) with Seng Mah and Tim from Nikon at this event. With Cait not being able to go, I brought my niece Sasha to come and join in the fun.

21.01.2022 Last night I attended a workshop at the Lancelin sand dunes, put on by Paean from Astrordinary Imaging. It was great to get out this early in the season and check out a new location. It was also fun to meet new people who have an interest in astrophotography.

19.01.2022 Camera Electronic and Canon Australia put on a photowalk in East Perth this evening. It was great to catch up with some photo friends and get some long exposure practise in.

18.01.2022 On Monday I was looking at Sun Surveyor photo opportunities and saw the Milky Way core was visible with no moon interference for the next week or so. Then I jumped on to a couple of weather apps and saw Monday night was going to be cloudless but the rest of the week wasnt looking good. So a quick decision was made and I had dinner and jumped in the car about 6pm. Got up to the lighthouse just before 7:30 and took a few different pano shots. Spent an hour and a half or so and decided that was late enough for a work night :). Overall Im fairly happy with these, obviously there is a lot of room for improvement but for my second attempts at panoramas, they are ok.

17.01.2022 Had a fantastic (and very long) day yesterday. Cait Diana, George Dean and myself got on the road at 04:15 and drove out to Northam Airport to meet up with Russell and the gang from Midland Camera House for the #NorthamNationals. I guess you could say it was #JustAnotherDayInWA :)

17.01.2022 Another excellent overnight trip arranged by Graeme from the Perth Astrophotographers group. An excellent turnout with some old and new faces to catch up with. In a surprise twist, Beverley Photography Group also had an event here last night so we managed to meet some of the local enthusiasts as well (props to Hollie for her first start trail, it turned out very well :) ). There are two set of pictures, the first from 9-10:30pm and then the last three from around 3-4am. Its quite amazing the difference in colours. Ive applied the same develop settings to all photos and am amazed at the difference. Im guessing its the extra light from pre-pre-dawn as well as some of the air glow that Vicki was talking to me about this morning.

16.01.2022 If anyone is interested in doing a photo walk around Perth .. jump on and book for this free event .. plus they will give you a voucher to get one of your images printed

16.01.2022 Cait and I went down to Fremantle for a Nikon event put on by Valentines CameraHouse and presented by Seng Mah and Dale Neil. It was a lot of fun and we both got some great tips. There was also a heap of Nikon gear to play with but I resisted the temptation to grab one of the new D850s, as I know I would have wanted one, they are a gorgeous camera!!

16.01.2022 With the Brookfield Winter Lights Festival 2017 finishing on Saturday, I took the opportunity to head into Perth before the storms hit. It was a bit of fun and I enjoyed all the displays. The random patterns generated on the side of a couple of buildings on St Georges Terrace were very cool. #LightUpBrookfield #PerthIsOk #JustAnotherDayInWA

16.01.2022 I havent ever done any work with models, so Friday the 13th seemed like an appropriate time to attend a photo shoot put on by @freocreativephotography with the lovely Chelsea Fay-minh as heroin Junkie Sally and Bec Musca as Ramona Royale. We made use of the existing light and shot at quite high ISO to deal with it. Overall not a bad first time :) #FCCP

15.01.2022 Cait & I had an amazing time tonight at an event put on by Olympus AU & Camera House. We had the pleasure of listening to Denis Smith - Photographer talk about his passion for Light Painting, explain some of his techniques and show us some of his awesome tools. We even went out to Kings Park afterwards and had a crack ourselves. If you havent seen Denis work, do yourself a favour and check out https://www.denissmith.com.au/ or https://www.facebook.com/DenisSmithPhotography/ or https://www.instagram.com/the_ball_of_light/

13.01.2022 Another day, another photowalk .. Had a great time this morning at an event put on by Camera Electronic .. It was interesting to wander around Perth, checking out some of the #UrbanArt under the guidance of Kingsley Klau. #MyNikonLife #D7200

12.01.2022 Midland Camera House organised another macro shoot with Canon Australia at Kalamunda National Park. Perth turned on a beautiful morning (considering how the weather was yesterday) and we had a great time wandering around looking for things to take close up photos of. Here are some of my favourites from the morning.

11.01.2022 After a few hectic weeks, I managed to get a free Wednesday night to head back for the Fire Performers Group: South of the River weekly practise. While there werent too many people practising, Taralee kept coming out with new equipment to set fire to, and for us to take photos of. Great fun evening and I highly recommend checking them out if youre interested in learning this skill or just photographing fire twirling.

10.01.2022 Hi all. I have 2 spare tickets to this free event if you are interested. This Saturday at 8am (wait what? - 8am?? :)). This should be a pretty cool walk so if youre interested then let me know.

09.01.2022 Last Supermoon for 2017 is December 3rd.

09.01.2022 Another great event put on by Michael from Nikon and digiDIRECT.com.au, wonderfully hosted by Dale Neill. In addition to a leisurely stroll down High St, we were invited up to the rooftop of the National Hotel for the sunset. This is a collection of some of my favourite shots. #MyNikonLife #D7200

09.01.2022 Another fun event put on by Midland Camera House and Sigma Lens. Even though the weather refused to cooperate, it was a great event. We had two of Perths best instructing groups. Michael (aka Astrophotobear) and Roger (aka @astrophotographyaustralia) were extremely helpful and answered dozens of questions all night. It was also great to catch up with a number of other friends from around the place but I wont tag them all ... cause .. I cant really be bothered :) ... they know who they are.

07.01.2022 After a few weeks of dreary weather, #Perth has been beautiful over the last few days so I decided to try my luck for a nice sunrise. Unfortunately there were no clouds to provide that colour contrast but the Swan River was doing its best to imitate a mirror :)

06.01.2022 Braved the winter weather this morning to go out and try a different style of photography. With a stage of the Targa Rally being held in the next suburb, it seemed a shame to miss it.

06.01.2022 We havent had a nice clear night for a while so I headed out to Bells Rapids, which is only about 20 minutes from home, hoping to meet up with one or two fellow Perth Astrophotographers but ended up solo. Took a few shots but there was a fair amount of light pollution so called it quits early.

05.01.2022 Camera Electronic & Rockingham Photography Club - Public arranged a photo shoot at Penguin Island with Darran Leal. With a start time of 6:30am , it was a very early start to a Sunday morning, but it was well worth getting out of bed and taking an hours drive to get there. Unfortunately there were no penguins to be seen, apparently they were either out fishing or huddled up in their homes, but there was an abundance of pelicans and other bird life, plus some lovely views. Here are some of my favourite shots from this morning. #PerthIsOk #JustAnotherDayInWA #Nikon #PenguinIsland #PerthShutterbug

04.01.2022 Another Saturday with a bit of spare time, so I did some more experimenting with my new Pluto Trigger and valve. Red dye this time and a bit more gelatine, but still want a bit more elasticity. Not a bad hour or twos fun and fairly happy with the results. Here are 6 of the 400 shots :). http://www.plutotrigger.com?afmc=1jf For this set up Im using:... Nikon D7200 with Metz 32 flash and Lume Cube. 1/250s f11 100 iso #Nikon #WaterDroplets #PerthShutterbug #MyNikonLife

04.01.2022 Hi all .. Id like to ask a favour .. If you happen to be going to Midland Gate shopping centre over the next couple of weeks, could you please take a minute or two to wander over to the Eastern end of the complex and put a vote in for my photo? There is a row of 20 photos as you walk in from the GE Hway/Lloyd St entrance with voting slips at the beginning and end .. All you need to do is put Andrew as the photographers name and fill out your name and postcode and drop the form in the container .. There is only one entry allowed per person so any time over the next couple of weeks would be great .. Thanks very much

04.01.2022 Headed out to York for the moon show as Midland Camera House put on an event up at Mount Brown. It was a fun evening shared with a heap of people who made the drive from Perth (or Northam - Hi Julie & Brodie). I got to catch up with people who Id met on previous events, meet some new ones and generally waffle on about cameras to people :). Im not overly happy with the results from the photos, but as they say, youre your own worst critic, so Im going to post them anyway.

03.01.2022 While I didnt see any meteors, I did get a nice load of pics for a star trail :)

02.01.2022 Kinetic runs a bit of a lottery each year to decide which employees can bring their families up to watch the Skyshow. We were lucky enough to get a spot this year and scored the 11th floor with its balcony. Its a pity Elizabeth Quay is still under construction but it was a great view and a fantastic evening. Here are some of the shots I took.

02.01.2022 A lovely mid morning meetup with Cait Diana, myself and some of the Friends in Focus Perth group at the Lesmurdie Falls. Thanks to Kristy Miles for arranging the event.

02.01.2022 I haven't ever done any work with models, so Friday the 13th seemed like an appropriate time to attend a photo shoot put on by @freocreativephotography with the lovely Chelsea Fay-minh as heroin Junkie Sally and Bec Musca as Ramona Royale. We made use of the existing light and shot at quite high ISO to deal with it. Overall not a bad first time :) #FCCP

01.01.2022 Last night was the first Perth Astrophotophers Festival of Sausage & Stars for 2018. We went down to Island Point on Saturday afternoon and once it got dark, people filled in time with light painting and star shots, until the core rose at around 3am.
