17.01.2022 Two totally different lesions on the same patient... what would be your diagnosis? Patient with a prior history of Melanoma, they came in concerned about one spot darkening, while totally unaware of the other ‘hiding in plain site’... . Skin Cancer doesn’t always look like what is in the textbook, and even those who are diligent and normally on the ball with their own self-surveillance can potentially be unaware of a lesion that needs aggressive treatment, hence the importan...ce of good skin cares and regular skin checks. This is the stuff that scares even your Dermatologist in their nightmares thinking will we miss something that looks okay but actually isn’t!?! . Melanoma with no colour = Amelanotic Melanoma. 08.01.2022 World Breastfeeding Week. . . From an aesthetic point of view just because a mother is breastfeeding doesn’t mean they can’t undertake any treatments at all. There may be a limitation on some treatments, based on the possibility of chemicals or medications getting into the mother’s system (and hence a risk of being passed onto Bub!), but there are also a lot of appropriate and safe options that can be considered.. .... Neuromodulators are deemed safe on consensus opinion but are formally ‘off-label use’ during lactation. . Dermal Fillers are considered safe, as long as the procedure is performed with proper infection control processes with fully trained staff in case any complications arise. . Facials and Chemical Peels that do not involve any contraindicated chemicals are safe - discuss these with your treating clinician! . Lasers & Light therapy procedures are generally considered safe, but keeping in mind that the more aggressive modes may have infection risks that could pose an issue. . Biopsies and a lot of Surgical procedures are generally safe, again paying attention to potential infection complications. Major surgery should be avoided though. . . Breastfeeding has physiological and psychological benefits for mothers and infants. The immune system in early life is greatly influenced by maternal immunity during pregnancy and lactation. The World Health Organisation recommends where possible that infants be breastfed for the first 6 months of life to achieve optimal growth development and health. Being a natural process doesn’t mean it‘s always easy though and there is absolutely no shame if you can’t.
