08.02.2022 Life is currently busy, but in a good way. For the next few months I will be helping my husband grow his business https://redearthinspections.com.au. I will continue to care for my existing patients and I hope to be able to start seeing new patients again once I have more time available. Thank you for your understanding.

25.01.2022 So lovely to have these gorgeous girls back for a tune-up yesterday. They both tried to sit on my lap . Pink (the grey-hound cross) acts like she thinks its a day-spa, loving every minute, then zonked on the couch for hours afterwards . Her sister Baci (Silky Terrier cross Rottweiler - dont ask ) always wants to be first for her treatment but then isnt so sure once the needles come out. She stayed on guard at home while Baci slept the afternoon away

24.01.2022 Happy Sunday afternoon . Not great weather here in Perth today but you could take a leaf out of Coopers book and have a nice afternoon nap . Cooper has been very relaxed for his acupuncture treatments for back and hip pain and stiffness, and enjoys a little snooze once all the needles are in place .

24.01.2022 After a second acupuncture treatment and 5 days after her first treatment, Coco is completely back to normal, exploring with her friend Molly

23.01.2022 This adorable face belongs to Albert, a 1-year-old Shih Tzu show-dog. Hes a happy boy who was showing no signs of pain, but had some roaching and muscle tightness through his back. Radiographs revealed no bone or joint abnormalities to explain his posture. Acupuncture has helped to release the muscle tightness and flatten his back out so he is moving more freely again. #shihtzusofperth #veterinaryacupuncture #dogmobility #perthvets #dogacupuncture

23.01.2022 Now that we appear to be winning the battle on Covid-19 in Perth, I will be able to start doing some home visits again. There will still be some restrictions and limitations in place. I am using the COVIDSafe app and will encourage my clients to do the same. This pic is of handsome Sammy who snuggled up against my work bag last time I visited him

23.01.2022 Sweet Cosi the 6-year-old Cavoodle likes to snuggle on mum’s lap for her #dogacupuncturetreatment . She may look a little bit worried but was actually quite happy with her treatments. Her owners are happy with her treatments too - Cosi was diagnosed with Grade 1 IVDD earlier in the year, but had not shown much change in her mobility or demeanour with pain relief medication and rest. After a series of acupuncture treatments she is looking more comfortable, moving faster and more freely, and her owners have been able to wean her off the pain relief medication without any relapse . #veterinaryacupuncture #ivdddogs #cavoodlesofperth

22.01.2022 Coco the chicken - later on the day after acupuncture she is walking more but still wobbly

21.01.2022 Fei-Fei a week after initial presentation, after 2 acupuncture treatments, cage rest and mild pain relief. Looking good Fei-Fei

21.01.2022 Coco the chicken - legs paralysed so she could only sit and watch while her friend Molly foraged.

21.01.2022 Two weeks after starting acupuncture, 3 weeks after onset of paralysis, Chip was able to take a few wobbly steps before collapsing.

20.01.2022 Handsome Leo the 7-year-old Border Collie is happy playing with his toys again after a series of acupuncture treatments . He was getting stiff and sore in his hips and lower back from suspected hip dysplasia and arthritis. Medication had not helped very much but acupuncture has released right muscles and put the spring back in his step and the smile back on his face . Glad to see you happy again Leo.

19.01.2022 Wishing a Merry Christmas and a happy and relaxing festive season for all my beautiful patients and their amazing owners . This is Maggie, a friends slightly reluctant angel . Any other cute Christmas pet pics?

19.01.2022 Super-sweet Sammy is a 10-year-old Kelpie cross who has had bilateral cruciate surgeries - 4 years apart! Acupuncture is helping to relieve compensatory muscle pain to help speed his recovery

19.01.2022 Even though I have been using acupuncture in practice for over 15 years I still continue to be amazed at the power of needles . Mushu is a 5-year-old French Bulldog who had IVDD surgery 2 years ago and a flare up 1 year ago that resolved with conservative management. Mushu has a very sensitive digestion so when he started showing signs of another IVDD flare up just over a week ago his owners were understandably reluctant to start him on too many medications and instead sou...ght acupuncture along with a mild pain-killer. When I first visited Mushu 5 days ago he was showing signs of Grade 2 IVDD - back pain, reluctance to move around, ataxia (wobbly back legs but still able to walk) and generally feeling sorry for himself . Within 2 days of his first acupuncture treatment he had improved dramatically and at his revisit today he was almost back to his normal happy self and no longer needing any other pain medication. Not all cases of IVDD respond this well or this quickly, but when the clinical signs are due mainly to pain and muscle spasm rather than spinal cord compression, the results can be dramatic . Mushu will continue to be rested and have more acupuncture treatments as needed. #veterinaryacupuncture #dogacupuncture #ivdddogs #frenchiesofinstagram #frenchiesofperth #acupunctureworks #jobsatisfaction #perthvets #dogsofperth #lovemyjob

18.01.2022 When using acupuncture in cats I find less is more. I take it slow and let them choose their place - home visits are great for this. Pats and treats can help while needles are being placed. A calming point on top of the head can be used but some patients find this confronting to place and will often relax without it. Bubbles is having acupuncture for lower back pain and has found her happy place brought on by endorphins . Cats tend to respond well to acupuncture, often needing fewer needles than their canine counterparts.

18.01.2022 Casey could happily lie on Mums lap and have acupuncture all day - she loves the pats and treats, and doesnt mind the needles at all . She is a 10-year-old French Bulldog who suddenly developed a head tilt a few months ago. A thorough investigation and treatment regime were performed by veterinary medicine specialists. Acupuncture is helping to relieve some of her neck tension and also releasing concurrent back tightness and pain. #dogacupuncture #frenchbulldogsofperth #veterinaryacupuncture #perthvets

18.01.2022 So proud of this little guy! When I first started treating Teddy just over 6 months ago he was terrified, and not so sure about the whole acupuncture thing . With regular visits, treats, cuddles, and longer and longer pain-free periods he has gradually gotten used to my visits. Last week he decided my lap was the best place to sit after I had put his needles in . #lovemyjob #dogacupuncture #chihuahuasofperth #longhairedchihuahuas #perthvets #dogsofperth #dogcuddles

18.01.2022 I think Willow surprised herself by how relaxed she became during her first acupuncture treatment . She has watched her sister Charlie having acupuncture for a couple of years (to help her recovery after IVDD surgeries). Luckily Willow hasn’t shown signs of IVDD yet, but with some recent muscle tightness in her back, her owners thought it was time to give her a turn at acupuncture too. #dachshundsofperth #vetacupuncture #dogacupuncture #ivdddogs #dogsofperth #perthvets

17.01.2022 Coco the chicken - the day after her first acupuncture treatment she managed to stand up and take her first steps.

17.01.2022 This beautiful old boy is Phantom, and hes having acupuncture for back pain. Phantom is a very timid boy, but we took it nice and slow and he coped remarkably well with his acupuncture treatments . Hes showing response to treatment by being less sensitive when patted over his back and being more keen to play #catsofperth #catacupuncture #vetacupuncture #catpainrelief #acupunctureforcats

16.01.2022 Sophie the gorgeous 12-year-old red heeler had coped on 3 legs for many years after having her left front leg amputated after a car accident. As she has gotten older she has developed arthritis in her remaining elbow and she was finding it hard to get around. Pain relief medication had helped to a point but she was still struggling. Sophie was a model patient and has responded beautifully to her acupuncture. See you in a few weeks gorgeous girl

16.01.2022 Chip’s story is a happy one that shows how successful the conservative management of IVDD can be with a team of professionals supporting dedicated owners on this difficult journey. In more severe cases of IVDD (grade 3 and above) surgical intervention is generally the preferred treatment option. However, due to a variety of reasons, surgery is not an option for all owners. In these cases conservative management may be considered, keeping in mind that it will involve a lot o...f work and potentially a long journey, with no guarantee of a successful outcome - so it is not for everyone. Chip, the 7-year-old dachshund, had an acute onset of IVDD causing paralysis of both hind-legs. Luckily he still had control of bladder and bowel and deep pain and conscious withdrawal was present. CT performed at @veterinaryimagingcentre showed moderately severe spinal cord compression at L1-2. Surgery was recommended to give the best chance of recovery for Chip, but this was not an option for his owners. Chip was very happy in himself and had good pain management provided by his primary care veterinarians. His owners contacted the helpful people at @longdogswa who provided practical advice and equipment. Chip had his first acupuncture treatment a week after his sudden collapse. He was paralysed in his back legs, with just a small amount of movement in his left leg when his paw was pinched firmly. Dry needling and electroacupuncture were used to provide extra pain relief and to stimulate return of nerve function to his back legs. His owners were shown rehabilitation exercises to further encourage return of sensation and strength to his back legs. Chip showed a rapid and ongoing improvement in response to acupuncture and rehabilitation therapies. Videos to follow. Chip continued to be crate rested, with his owners taking him out regularly for toilet visits and rehabilitation exercises. Chip also started hydrotherapy with Perth Dog Rehab and has continued to improve since then. As long as the patient has good pain relief and the owners are prepared for the intensive work required, conservative management can be a valid alternative for many cases of IVDD where surgery is not an option. Medical pain relief, acupuncture, rehabilitation exercises, hydrotherapy, laser or red light therapy and crate rest can all play an important part in the healing process of spinal cord injuries.

16.01.2022 Bessie with her glossy black coat is a 13-year-old Staffy with joint and back pain which had been poorly responsive to medication. She is a stoic girl who would sometimes only show her owners that she was in pain by not being as keen to move around and going off her food. Since having a course of acupuncture treatments she is eating consistently, more playful and stronger in her squatting . Great to see you happy and playing Bessie .

15.01.2022 A hands-on massage workshop for dog owners? What a great idea! Melody is amazing

15.01.2022 Adorable Meeko is a 4-year-old French Bulldog who had been looking wobbly in his back legs for a while. He was getting worse, becoming reluctant to move around and medication wasnt helping. Meeko was very chilled for his acupuncture treatments, which helped to relieve his tight back muscles and put a spring back in his step. He is also doing some basic rehabilitation exercises and Meeko is getting stronger by the day.

14.01.2022 This little poppet is Fei-Fei, a 17-year-old Dachshund. She had severe IVDD requiring surgery 4 years ago and recovered well, despite already being an older dog. Fei-Fei recently had a flare-up of IVDD, becoming suddenly painful and struggling to walk. Emergency treatment provided pain relief and revealed she has mild kidney disease so non-steroidal medication was avoided. Unfortunately she reacted to the pain-relief medication but was able to restart this at a lower dose... after a few days. Acupuncture was started early on, along with cage rest and lots of TLC. Rehab exercises were added once Fei-Fei was comfortable enough. Fei-Fei is doing well and looks like she hopefully make a full recovery . Videos to follow See more

14.01.2022 Gus is an 11-year-old Golden Retriever who was starting to get stiff and was struggling to get around. He has suspected arthritis in multiple joints and compensatory muscle pain and tightness. Acupuncture has gotten Gus moving again so he can enjoy his walks and plays in the park.

14.01.2022 Theres nothing quite like the feeling of being welcomed into a home by a happy waggy-tailed smiling dog, happy to see you because he remembers how good your treatments make him feel . Very blessed to have special dogs like Hamish in my life, and to be able to make a difference to their comfort and mobility levels . #lovemyjob #goldenretrieversofperth #vetslife #dogacupuncture

14.01.2022 2 days after acupuncture - Coco is so excited to be walking again

13.01.2022 You won’t believe it - this little poppet is even more adorable in real life . Fern is a 10-year-old #papilloncross who has had a few issues with IVDD - luckily not requiring surgery. She is having #vetrehabilitation with the amazing team at @vetrehabservices to provide pain relief and to help strengthen her back to reduce the risk of IVDD flare ups. She is also having #veterinaryacupuncture to help with pain and muscle spasm. Keep up the good work gorgeous girl . #ivdddog #dogacupuncture #perthdogs

12.01.2022 Nyx the almost 2-year-old Great Dane saw how #veterinaryacupuncture helped her older brother Zeus so she thought she’d give it a try too . Nyx had started limping after having too much fun with her friends . Acupuncture helped release tight muscles and got her feeling better again . #greatdanesofperth #dogsofperth #perthvets #dogacupuncture #vetacupuncture

12.01.2022 Another perspective in these crazy times

12.01.2022 How adorable is this face? . Belka is a #labradoodle who suddenly when he turned 8 started having issues with his back legs . He would come back from a fun day playing with his friends at doggy daycare looking stiff and sore. Anti-inflammatories and pain relief helped short-term but he would relapse as soon as he had too much fun . His examination revealed that Belka has arthritis in his hips with secondary muscle tightness and pain through hi...s lower back and hip musculature. Belka was a little nervous at the thought of an acupuncture treatment but once the needles were in place he was quite relaxed. And the really good news - he is now able to enjoy his normal long walks and swims as well as a few bursts of exuberant playing with his friends at doggy daycare and the park without pulling up lame afterwards. Belka is also having joint support supplements and may need other medical treatments in future but for now he and his owners are very happy he has his bounce back #labradoodlesofperth #dogacupuncture #vetacupuncture #petacupuncture #veterinaryacupuncture #dogsofperth #perthvets #dogarthritis See more

12.01.2022 Look at that adorable squooshy face . Maximus is a 10-year-old Bull Arab cross who has had multiple joint issues since he was quite young. His incredibly dedicated owner and team of general practice and specialist vets have ensured he has stayed healthy and comfortable. After a diagnosis of prostatic cancer earlier this year his owner was devastated at the thought of losing him. But Maximus is a tough boy and he bounced back and is still very happy, though he was starting to struggle with mobility. Acupuncture has improved his energy levels and his ability to move around more comfortably. Well done Maximus - such a joy to see you jumping around playing with your toys #dogacupuncture #veterinaryacupuncture #dogsofperth

12.01.2022 Boson the 8-year-old Great Dane likes to take a seat on the couch for his acupuncture treatments, while one of his two young jack Russell cross friends is on lookout. She is a 5-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who has arthritis in both stifles due to loose kneecaps when she was younger, a torn cruciate ligament and tight muscles in her back. She is showing great improvement with rest, pain relief and acupuncture.

07.01.2022 Due to the current COVID-19 social distancing requirements and to protect your families and mine, I have made the difficult decision to not see patients for the time being. So I will be laying low like this beautiful tawny frogmouth. I hope you and your fur babies stay healthy and calm during these uncertain times. I will be in touch when circumstances change so I am able to start seeing patients again. Take care everyone.

04.01.2022 This gorgeous girl is Mischa, an 11 year-old chihuahua who suddenly developed hind limb weakness a couple of weeks ago. Her owners were understandably worried, but luckily Mischa started showing signs of improvement within the first couple of days. Since then Mischa has been having acupuncture to help release tight muscles in her back - and her back legs are now almost back at full strength. Mischa has been enjoying her little pampering and relaxation sessions

04.01.2022 I had a revisit with this handsome old fellow recently. Mort is a very lucky boy who was taken on as a stray by his amazing new owners 10 years ago when he was around 4 years old. 03.01.2022 BREAKING NEWS Veterinarians at the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center in the USA think they have worked out the reason why grapes are toxic to dogs. After rece...iving reports of vomiting and kidney injury following exposure to cream of tartar, veterinarians put two and two together and worked out that tartaric acid and potassium bitartrate, compounds present in cream of tartar, are also present in grapes. This may finally answer the long standing question as to why dogs develop kidney injury following ingestion of grapes. It also answers the question as to why some dogs are affected and others are not. This conundrum lies in the variability in tartaric acid concentration in grapes with concentrations changing based on grape type, locality and ripeness. Whilst 20g of grapes per kg (approximately 5 grapes per kg) has been reported to cause kidney damage, there is a report of a dog eating 1/2 grape per kg developing kidney injury also. So the best advice out there is still to avoid feeding your dog grapes and sultanas!

03.01.2022 I have a happy story to share about Coco the 2 year old black hen. She became suddenly paralysed in her legs and a thorough workup by her avian vet failed to find a specific cause. Supportive treatment and anti-inflammatories were started but a poor prognosis was given. 5 days later, Coco had small amounts of movement in her toes though was still unable to move, but was very happy in herself. Her extremely dedicated owner kept her propped up and moved her around so she co...uld be with the other chicken Molly. She felt that Coco was not ready to go yet, so she canceled the euthanasia appointment and booked an acupuncture visit instead. Happily, the day after her first acupuncture treatment Coco took her first step. 3 days later she was fully recovered. We may never know what caused Cocos leg paralysis, but it was wonderful to see what was achieved with dedicated nursing care and acupuncture to stimulate return of function. Shes now happy running around with Molly. #acupunctureworks #chickenacupuncture #vetsofperth #chickensofperth See more

01.01.2022 Nonny the cutie-pie bunny is a very lucky boy. At 6 months of age he badly damaged his right back leg, requiring amputation. A bunny rescue group saved the day and @unusualpetvets performed the surgery. A few months later Nonny went to his forever home and has been loving life for the last 6 years, living a full and active life. Last year he started showing signs of arthritis in his 3 remaining limbs, and earlier this year his right front leg started splaying out to the side.... Nonny still has excellent quality of life, has pain relief as needed and can move around freely. His loving owners took him for an assessment and #vetrehabilitation at @vetrehabservices.
