23.01.2022 2 settlement agencies have been caught up in an email scam because they choose to use a FREE yahoo email account. Registering a domain and hosting costs ~ $100 a year and will help protect your company. When we set up your domain on our platform, we also use an SPF record on your domain. An SPF (Sender Policy Framework) record is used to indicate which host is authorised to send mail from a domain.... If a scammer tries to spoof your email address or your domain, most mail servers should reject the email. The only way the scammer could send a message is only if they have access to the SMTP server that is authorised to send the email out. Then they would need the access details to the server. This is also a reminder to always have a strong non-dictionary based password, having security software on your machine and been vigilant when opening emails.

23.01.2022 Remember reduced hours by phone are available for the next two weeks starting tomorrow. We are open from 8am to 1pm Monday, Tuesday and Friday this week. The best way to contact support is by emailing us at [email protected] as we regularly monitor our system. * Assisted migrations, Web Updates, and programming will be unavailable until 6th January 2020. If we are on a call, you will be asked to leave a message and we will return your call.... Merry Christmas :)

23.01.2022 It's interesting to hear the history of a building that we occupied for 6 years. The Bon Marche Arcade on Barrack Street in Perth. Nearly every type of business has been run from there. Perth Web Hosting relocated into this building in 2012 and vacated in 2018 Whilst we do not miss this building (as it was a dump), we can say that we operated out of one of the oldest buildings in Perth. (I do miss the location though). https://www.abc.net.au//bon-marche-arcade-emerges/116...78242 PS Our offices which are just around the corner on Hay street are much better and I still grab my morning coffee from the cafe at the front of the Bon Marsh Aracade nearly every morning on the way to work (Le Vietnam Cafe). You got to try it ;)

20.01.2022 Today we received instructions from building management that, due to the COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) we are to pass on to all our staff and clients who attend our offices for work and for meetings. In response to the WA state government implementing the pandemic plan today (12/03/2020), if you have recently traveled to a high-risk country or come into contact with a family member, friend or relative who has traveled recently to mainland China, Iran, Italy, South Korea, with...in recent days or in the last 2 weeks, Please DO NOT attend our offices and you should self-isolate for 14 days. 19.01.2022 This is one of the longest clients that we host their website and emails for. Paul and Mark from Griffin Catering have been hit very hard due to COVID-19. About a month ago, they were very busy operating two cafes and catering for functions around Perth and had to close one cafe due to its location inside the Fremantle Prison. Their other cafe out at Whiteman Park also has had a massive hit due to the social distancing laws. Two weeks ago they came up with a brilliant idea of... taking the food to the clients. So for $120, you get 11 healthy meals delivered to your door (metro only) which can feed two serves per meal and can be frozen. These meals have a 5-day shelf life and they're scrumptious we even brought one ourselves. The great thing about this is even though they've had to lay off some staff, the boys were able to keep a few on to help prepare and organise the meals. We wish Paul Griffin and Mark Griffo Sommer Griffin all the very best for their business during this season and we hope to order another one very soon. Order info: Please email [email protected] #COVID19 #perthcatering #mealsdeliveredtoyourdoor #perthisok #supportlocalbusinesses #perth

18.01.2022 And that's it for 2020. What a year it has been. Thanks to all our clients who we have helped out whether it has been for a new website, an update or web hosting. We truly have the best clients. For now, we are off to enjoy a few beers, have Christmas with our families and freshen up for 2021. If you require support please drop us an email at [email protected]. We will still be monitoring our systems throughout the break and telephone support will be open from 9 am - 2 pm next Tuesday and Wednesday next week. We will be back to our regular hours from 8am, Monday 4th January 2021. Merry Christmas and hopefully a better year ahead. Cheers. We look forward to hearing from you in 2021.

17.01.2022 Reminder - Perth Web Hosting will be open for telephone support only from 9 am - 2 pm tomorrow and Wednesday only. No web updates or design tasks will be actioned until next Monday 4th January 2021. Need support now? Why not lodge a ticket now. You never know, you may get a response sooner rather than later.

17.01.2022 COVID-19 Update Dear Clients, As we are writing this email, things are changing so quickly and it is somewhat surreal. I'm sure we all would look back at it for many generations to come.... I would like to thank each and every client for their business and support over the last 12 years and we hope that every client (and their business) will become stronger once this virus ceases and the business will begin to prosper. I would like to reach out and reassure you that everything is operating normally here at Perth Web Hosting. Over the next 48 hours, there has been word in the media that most Australian states will go into shutdown mode to avoid that social interaction and to ensure people keep a social distance. New Zealand has announced a few hours ago a 30-day lockdown so I'm assuming that our PM will follow shortly. Over the last few years, we have been working between our office in the city and on some occasions at home. so, we can still operate as normal and there will be no reason that our business would need to be disrupted. Telephone support will continue to be available Monday to Friday 8am - 6pm as well as email support. However, ALL face to face meetings and onsite visits are canceled effective immediately until further notice. Perth Web Hosting has the capability to do video meetings (Skype or Zoom) and telephone calls where possible. In an event that a call-out is urgently required, we will assess the case and take the appropriate action provided that no laws are broken. We also rely on our suppliers and some of the suppliers have already placed restrictions upon us such as offices are closed and to make an order online. If ringing through, please be patient and we apologize for any unusual background noise such as TV or a dog barking we will try to limit this background noise where possible. Please stay safe and remember to do the right thing and keep that social d i s t a n c e. Please let your friends and clients know that we are ready to support their hosting needs. Support local businesses. Cameron Worts Managing Director

13.01.2022 Spending a day in a data centre on days like today

13.01.2022 Perth Web Hosting final day of normal trading hours for 2020 is tomorrow (23/12/2020). Our support lines are open up until 6pm. Need support whilst our support lines are closed? Sure, the best way is to lodge your requests to [email protected] as we will still keep an eye on all incoming requests. We will continue to provide support via this method even whilst our support lines are closed. ... Need to speak with us whilst we are away? You can call us 24/7 on our emergency line. You will always get through to us day or night. However, as we all need a break to refresh ourselves, any non-urgent matters will be charged a fee. All critical requests will not be charged. What sort of timeframe am I expected to wait for a response? Generally, all low priority tickets will be responded to within 12 hours. On average, we respond to tickets within 4 hours. All high priority tickets are actioned and dealt with within 30 minutes. Again this is only a rough guide. Remember, we are having a break too so we do not monitor the system like we usually do on a normal working day. I think the server is down? First of all, Please check your site via your mobile device ensuring your wifi is disabled as sometimes, your IP address may be blocked at the firewall. Our team will also get an alert via SMS within 2 minutes in the event that a server goes down. In most cases, we are already on the case before you realise the server is down. With all the processes in place, I'm sure we got this covered. Will you be available between Christmas and New Year? Yes, we will be available on the 29th and 30th December 2020 between 9am - 2pm by telephone only. I need an update done on my site, can you do it? Unfortunately, we will not be providing any web development services (including web updates) from the 24/12/2020. We will action all requests when we return on Monday 4th January 2021. Why aren't you open between the Christmas and new years period? After each Christmas / New years' period, we review the period and have found that it is really unnecessary to have a staff member man the phone with the very low call volume. On average we have only received 5 calls over the festive season for the past 3 years. Most of our clients are also closed over the period. It makes no sense to keep someone at their desk with the low call volume when they can relax with their friends and family and get refreshed for the new year. When do you return to normal hours? We return to the office and resume our regular trading hours from 8am, Monday 4th January 2021. Our support hours will be from 8 am to 6pm. Monday to Friday excluding public holidays. Merry Christmas and happy new year.

12.01.2022 Our support lines may be closed however, we continue to monitor our support system after hours and remember, we have an out of hours support line 24x7x365*. We also monitor our network and every server by placing specific sensors on our hardware so we can detect issues early before it becomes a problem. our monitoring system polls each device on our network every 2 minutes. If these sensors are breached, our support team is alerted via SMS and email.... *Conditions do apply

12.01.2022 As of the 1st of March 2020, any support request email sent directly to a staff member will be unanswered and deleted. ALL support requests MUST BE sent to our official support address which is [email protected] A confirmation email with a ticket id will be sent back to you once the system receives the email. We have been requesting this from clients for over a year an as a growing business we need to ensure all requests are centralized into one place. Thanks for your attention towards this matter.

11.01.2022 Wow, what a makeover. One of the recent projects we have undertaken is a GUI refresh of a client portal that we wrote for a mobile veterinary clinic over 10 years ago. I first designed this portal back in early 2007 and thought I have done a fantastic job at writing the software. Recently, we were asked if some features could be added. I downloaded the code (which I haven't looked at for 13 years) and opened one file and... I thought to myself, who even wrote this code. It w...as a mess. duplicated code, pretty long SQL statements and no CSS files. I would have slapped the guy who wrote this program... oh, that's right, that's me. If I recall, this original program took 3 months to develop. Three weeks ago, it took me 3 days to redesign all the GUI interface, rewrite all the PHP files and put all the functions into class files and got additional features working and, it's mobile-friendly too. Perth Web Hosting not only does WordPress websites but we also do custom programs such as CRM's. If you're after a custom-built CRM, contact us today with your requirements.

11.01.2022 Its a Friday arvo No support tickets waiting to be responded too 3 Websites completed and launched this week Migrations are done Systems are running smoothly... Remember, we are open until 6pm tonight. Have a fantastic weekend.

10.01.2022 Why we dont believe in cheap hosting. Over the last few weeks, we have seen many enquiries regarding our pricing and why its more expensive than other providers. Beginning of this month, a Perth provider was acquired by a Melbourne based hosting provider. Since the news broke there have been many enquiries about our packages but sadly some responses are, Your prices are one and a half times more expensive then I was paying with my previous provider. ... If you look at what has happened in the last few months within the hosting industry with the major software player cPanel, the company changed its pricing modal from per server license to per account modal. This has caused significant price increases. For example, providers were purchasing each license pre-September for a monthly fee of $15 USD for a virtual server license and $45 USD for a dedicated server license. As of 1st September, cPanel now charges $45 USD for 100 cpanel accounts then, 10c USD per account thereafter. No one saw the price increases coming. As I have been reading on hosting forums some providers are now facing mega price increases due to the fact, theyve built big servers and running 1000+ cPanel accounts on a single server. So, in this case, the pricing is gone from $45 to $135 USD for that one server. Then you got concerns when a company that own cPanel owns nearly half of the other software that you require to run the operations, will they raise those software prices too or change the pricing model? Who knows? You then got to pay for the servers, network and staff to run the infrastructure etc If you make a pre-payment a period and during the contract duration and the provider suppliers increase the prices, most providers would continue to honour the plan until the clients next payment are due, nor a consumer will expect a pro-rata invoice from the provider. It would be bad PR to send clients another bill during the contract when theyve already secured that deal for a period. Clients who been with this Perth provider, paying $6-7 a month (even cheaper if prepaying for 3 years) and expecting a provider to continue? It becomes too unsustainable for any hosting provider to continue at the current pricing level without suffering a loss. Its about time those clients who expect a $5 service per month change their perception regarding cheap hosting and are you hoping to run your business on a price of a coffee or pay a bit more and having reliable and responsive service.

01.01.2022 Its interesting to hear the history of a building that we occupied for 6 years.

01.01.2022 Yesterday, our good client at Rottnest Air-Taxis were doing joy flights at the RFDS open day at Jandakot Airport with all proceeds been donated to the RFDS. Cameron our MD was invited up for a flight during the week and what was so special is that this flight path was unique as it was granted to Rottnest Air Taxi from CASA for this event. For a unique perspective view of Perth, we highly recommend Rottnest Air-Taxis. They don't just do flights to Rotto. They do joy flights a...round our great city. https://www.rottnestairtaxi.com.au/ BTW, this pic was taken from a Samsung S10

01.01.2022 GenesisVM Outage ************************ Start: 11:30am 10/04/2020 Finished: 23:15 11/04/2020... Services: All Fault: Intermittent issues Status: Resolved Updated: 23:20pm Details: Server GenesisVM is refusing to boot up. We have administrators working on restoring services.. Update 12:38pm Some services are starting up now however, we are still seeing errors in the back end and we continue to investigate. Update 12:54pm We have now restored the majority of the services however, some software services are randomly stopping. Whilst no data is lost, we have now got third party engineers looking into this as this is not a common issue. You may experience 2-4 minute outages. Update: 13:50pm The issue was due to a drive partition getting full overnight. Whilst we have plenty of data on the /home partition, another partition that is required became full due to a database been copied over which caused services to stop. Update: 14:00pm All services are restored. Update 18:30pm We have made a temporary change and we will need to perform emergency works tonight at 23:00 to move this directory to a bigger partition. As this is our oldest server, we have not loaded any new clients on this server for well over 3 years. When we built this server back in 2016, we only put a small master drive However, the other servers have at least have 5x capacity and we have plenty of space available on our other servers. Once we make the change, no further storage issues will occur on this server. Update 23:15 Server reboot performed and all tasks have now been completed successfully. We are now running a manual backup to our offsite server. We expect no further issues to occur. As it's been a public holiday, we anticipated that traffic has been very minimal.

01.01.2022 Don't forget, We are having a break tomorrow due to a Public Holiday. We still continue to monitor our support system and there are 0 tickets waiting for a reply. How good is that!!!! Have a fantastic Sunday Arvo and enjoy your day off tomorrow.
