20.01.2022 Tips to reduce Spiders around your home Spiders are going to be more common at this time in Sydney. Although spiders are beneficial, many fear spiders and do not want them in and around their home. If you find yourself attacked by one too many spider webs, consider the following tips to reduce spiders. Regular cleaning routines should include:... 1. Removing rubbish, old boxes, old clothing, wood piles, rock piles, and other unwanted items out of and/or away from the house. Spiders prefer dark and undisturbed areas, especially if moisture accumulates. 2. Stored items a better placedoff the floor and away from walls in garages and sheds. A good rule of thumb is to keep a 2-foot walking space between walls and stored items air and light easily pass through making in unfavorable for spiders, and you can easily access stored items. 3. Remove heavy vegetation and leaf litter around the foundation. Shade-cover from overhanging branches and bushes are great, but create cool environments that are high in moisture, which promote spider activity. For an identification chart of Australian Spiders check out this link http://www.termite.com.au/spider-identification.html

20.01.2022 Some Pestyologist Tips on avoiding spider bites: *Always wear gloves, long trousers and shoes while gardening. *Wear shoes when walking around in the garden.... *Inspect any suspected spider web or lair with a stick (or something similar), not your hands. *Shake out shoes before you put them on.Dont leave clothes on the floor if you do, shake them out before you put them on. *Instruct children not to touch spiders. *Dont assume that a spider at the bottom of a swimming pool is dead. Some spiders can survive on an air bubble for 24 hours or more.

17.01.2022 BEWARE: MAGPIE SWOOPING SEASON is here! There is an increased risk of swooping magpies as its Currently the birds breeding season.... Magpies are very protective parents and they may swoop anyone seen as an intruder who might harm their chicks. In the vast majority of cases the swooping is simply bluff, however sometimes people can receive minor head injuries as a result of swooping magpies. There are a few things that people can do to reduce risks: 1- Walk away from the area and warn others about risky locations 2- Dont provoke the birds, wear a hat or helmet to protect your head 3- Hold an umbrella or stick above your head to deter attacks but dont swing it at the magpie as this will only provoke it to attack 4- Hurry past nesting sites confidently and quickly 5- Avoid nesting sites,if on a bike, dismount to avoid falling off, and move away quickly. The protective behaviour lasts only several weeks. For the rest of the year the magpie is peaceful and valuable as an insect eater, renowned for its pleasant warbling. Magpies are a protected species and it is against the law to kill them, collect their eggs, or harm their chicks. So BEWARE
