23.01.2022 A Message From Our Artistic Director By: Benny Chan Jr. Dear audience:... PETAWA ( Philippine Educational Theatre Artists of Western Australia) Incorporated means a lot to me. It is, and will always our "baby". True to form, it is a fledging non-profit community theatre group that I have envisioned, and created in Perth, together with a handful of equally inspired visionaries that made up of its Executive Committee, ( we fondly call PETS), some four years ago. Despite all the uphill battles; mainly on the financial sides, or lack thereof, of running a community theatre group that relied mainly on sponsors and local advertisements, as well as the continuing struggle in educating the audience to watch original Filipino plays, that mirror the complex culture we, as migrants have here in our new home- Australia, face and experienced daily. In this day and age, many issues surrounding race, religion, politics, sex and gender identity have become divisive and polarising. When it comes to thinking and talking about them, we are frequently paralysed by political correctness and fear. We need to be able to see differently, with open minds, and be more accepting. This is where theatre comes in as a powerful tool. But alas, theatre is the most ephemeral of art form. Unlike a great film or a beautiful painting, there is no way of revisiting those moments. They were the fleeting confluence of those particular actors on that particular stage saying those particular lines at that particular time. Like life, theatre must be enjoyed in the moment, because there is no going back. Therefore it is in this context that we encourage your much desired patronage, for PETAWA's 2018-2019 Theatre Season to continue to survive. This season we will present to you, are the most thrilling, the most original, and the most exciting projects that we could find. All bundled up into a delicious season, just for your theatrical viewing pleasure. Amongst these gems will be, our year-ender presentation of - "Simbang Gabi Anthology/ La Mesa sa Misa". We hope that you will support this local cultural treasure. The arts in our community will thrive thanks to devoted theatre lovers like you. Many thanks for your supports, both past and future. We look forward to welcoming you to the theatre. Mabuhay! Benny 'Nitoy' Chan Jr. Artistic Director
