25.01.2022 I can and should report on the launch of Forgotten Corners - and I do, in my latest post, here linked. And I also offer you the details of three more events I'll be part of during the next three weeks. I hope to see you there. They're all quite different, but not to be missed.

25.01.2022 What I didn't tell you...

25.01.2022 Animals and ancestors, people and plants, the lost and the loved, the humus and the human, the artist and the artefact, the books and the birds, the sadness and the stillness, the past and the possible, the humour and the horror all find voice in Forgotten Corners. Thus writes James Boyce on the back cover of my soon-to-be-released book of essays. The great historian is, as always, far too generous. I’m massively in his debt. I did, too, in my earlier post, promise a teaser.... For this I have chosen the following passage from ‘Books Are the New Zucchini’, the volume’s concluding essay, as it was most recently published in 'Island' 157: Allied to the decluttering movement, though conceptually distinct from it, is the trend in our times a robust trend to decorative minimalism. Largely driven from within architecture, where a desire to leave clean lines unadorned has become pre-eminent, this is reinforced by a wish for internal planes (let’s call them walls) to remain void blank, white, unexpressive of the personality of the people to be found within those walls. I’m tempted to write something I often say. Well, I will. Show me a house devoid of lovingly personalised artefacts, of mind-stimulating decoration, and I’ll show you a person with a mind in which nothing much is happening. And there’s much more provocation, too. So. Come to the launch next Wednesday, buy/read 'Forgotten Corners', and then come looking for me, blunt instrument in hand. You’ll still be my friend. 24.01.2022 Dear friends, Forgotten Corners bubbles nicely along, and the exciting news is that this very Friday (that’s February 21 by the time you see this it’s also, most likely, tomorrow), the wonderful Cameron Hindrum will be fronting a Launceston launch of Forgotten Corners. It’s to be at Petrarch’s (what a great name for a bookshop!) at 6pm. If you’re thereabouts, attendance should be deemed mandatory. Even if you already possess a copy.

24.01.2022 Yes, the decision has been made. But read on dear friends, there are more merry happenings to report.

22.01.2022 Can't wait for this one. Important topic - a topic that goes to the very heart of the contemporary relevance of poetry. I'm sharing this session with all these wise people, and as for me, I intend to give it my very best shot. I urge your attendance.

19.01.2022 Yes, you did read correctly. I'll be breaking my isolation for a little while with Jane Giblin at Fullers tomorrow morning. We will be signing 'I Shed My Skin' - Jane's pictures and writings about her family's history on Flinders Island, which is accompanied by some of my poems. It would be lovely to see you there, keeping a safe distance of course!

19.01.2022 I’ve neglected you, dear friends, for an unpardonably long time. There’s a reason, though. I’ve been preparing a book of essays for publication and it’s primed and ready to go. Follow the link to find out more...

18.01.2022 Turn on your radio now if you want to catch me this morning! Radio National. http://reception.abc.net.au/

15.01.2022 Here's a little taster of Prof Jamie Kirkpatrick and friends' new book, which will be launched by Pete Hay this Saturday, 7th of December. Kingborough Community... Hub 4-6 pm There will be a short performance and an exhibition of pictures from Mr Caterpillar, and another book also to be launched at the event, Art by Nature. The exhibition is open from 10-4 on Saturday and Sunday, 7th and 8th, and the pictures are for sale, and they're beautiful! See more

10.01.2022 Some news at last, for those of you wondering what's become of me.

09.01.2022 "Keep your head down and read Pete Hay" - Richard Flanagan's advice to Geordie Williamson, Chief Literary Critic at 'The Australian' (and presumably to other newcomers to Tasmania). Reported by Geordie, at the launch of Pete's collection of essays, 'Forgotten Corners', at the Hobart Bookshop, 6th November 2019.

08.01.2022 Hello friends, here is some news on several coming events: TONIGHT: the launch my collaboration with Jane Giblin, 'I Shed My Skin'. THIS WEEKEND, with Paul Gerard at the Cygnet Folk Festival, performing works from 'Girl Reading Lorca' with Paul's original Spanish Guitar compositions. THE 18TH: In conversation with Heather Rose at the Jetty Cafe, Dennes Point, talking about 'Bruny'.

08.01.2022 A week or so ago we lost one of the greatest Tasmanians a unique man, a major talent, a one-off. I wrote this tribute to him. https://petehaywriter.com.au/remembering-geoff-dyer/

07.01.2022 How wonderful to see you all there. And most gracious hosts, as always, Hobart Bookshop. Thank you.

06.01.2022 It's been a little while since my last post, but since then there have been momentous changes happening, for all of us, and even for my cyber-self. Read all about them...

05.01.2022 I've posted some new news on my website - quite exciting news it is too.
