24.01.2022 Currently flowering (although almost done) in the Botanic Gardens is a Chilean bromeliad called the Blue Puya (Puya Alpestris). Lorakeets and miners go bananas over the flowers, and I could have almost patted them while they fed. This is one exotic flower - a true indigo colour, bright orange stamens, a perfume maybe like a cross between fried bread, turpentine and papaya, it takes years for the plant to flower, and the plant dies after seeds are formed. There you go. Images attached.

23.01.2022 It's been a while since I posted. Not a lot of photography lately, more into my music at present, but am currently on the Victorian shipwreck coast dealing with inclement weather and indifferent light. Here are some streets portraits from a recent walk through the Adelaide mall.

23.01.2022 My extraordinary Rockies photo trip is well and truly over, and we've spent a great week with our friends Bob and Wendy in Philadelphia and NY. Now resting up in old town Alexandria taking a trip down memory lane. Both well and balmy (sic). Just started some processing, a few difficult ones first. Here are images from magnificent Bow lake and Sunwapta falls.

22.01.2022 Another couple of Canadian Rockies images showcasing autumn colour at Bow Lake and the Lake Peto valley. Processing continues in fits and starts. p.s. all is well, the garden is rioting and roses are almost in full flight.

22.01.2022 Home from the U.S. and now recovered from inevitable colds (airplanes are petrie dishes); just 6-1/2 weeks since the last one! I have been doing some more processing of my Canadian Rockies photos and here are another couple - after sunrise at Crowfoot mountain by Bow Lake, and Waterfowl lake.

19.01.2022 A new year has arrived. Welcome to it. A blank page on which to print. Here are a couple of favourite monochromes from last year's Canadian Rockies trip.

18.01.2022 In May the crab apples ripen and the birds strip the tree in a week or 2. Silver eyes in particular only visit the garden at this time, and only in a year when the fruit is particularly good. Here are a few images from this time. Gives you an idea how far behind I am in processing images!

18.01.2022 On our last couple of days here in continental U.S. Here are a couple of images; one from my Canadian Rockies tour (Spirit Island), and a recent one from Arches national park in Utah, where I managed 2 sunrises with our friends. Have still only processed relatively few images, lots of photos yet to be revealed.

16.01.2022 Hi all, a couple of monochromes from my Flinders trip a couple of months ago. Maybe a bit edgy, not everyone's cup of herbal tea.

15.01.2022 As a photographer, I'm passionately interested in conservation of wilderness. So I'll share the following with you, and if you share my passion perhaps you may wish to add you name to the Native Forest Declaration and send a little letter to Scomo. Can't hurt.https://www.bobbrown.org.au/anfd

15.01.2022 As threatened, in this age of Corona I have got out and about every second day on our 2 acres, and taken a few photos (except the rosella which was a week earlier, and the mono still life which was taken inside). Here are a selection. I could do with a decent macro lens (I have a filter lens which attaches to my 70-300mm). Perhaps an isolation present to myself......

15.01.2022 Herewith are my trophy winners from the Adelaide Camera Club Annual Exhibition a couple of weeks ago; landscape, portrait (and best classic portrait) and travel category winners (out of 9 categories). Don't think I've posted these before. Big congrats to Toni Elliot who won best Nature and Mono images, including best exhibition photo.

14.01.2022 A while since I've posted, hope everyone is safe. All is well here in the time of Corona but photography has taken a little bit of a back seat to jazz and my alto saxophone. Here are 2 takes on the 3 Sisters near Banff in the Canadian Rockies, shot last year. Oh, and I've updated my website https://peterbarrien.com with the Rockies images and a new blog, written a few weeks ago.

13.01.2022 After somewhat of a hiatus, here are my favourite wren feeding fotos taken at Laratinga last spring. Life is more than just landscapes (but only just).

11.01.2022 End of our brief Hawaiian flight recovery soujourn - both of us have colds. On to Vancouver. These 2 images are from sunset/dusk along Waimea beach. Beautiful light here but to some extent a composition-free zone.

10.01.2022 Here are a few images from my recent sojourn to the northern Flinders with 3 talented photographers and a case or so of shiraz. Always a challenge to photograph this country.

09.01.2022 I don't always share successes or near misses, but I recently found out I scored a "highly commended" on 2 images submitted to the Australian mono awards. This puts me through the second cut but I didn't make the top 30. I had the same result with the less recent Australian Photographer of the Year and Emerging Photographer of the Year (different images of course). The moral of this tale - don't let results get in the way of your art. And if first (and second and third) you don't succeed, take a break. Mono images attached.

07.01.2022 I guess I should share some happy results from my club's (Adelaide) Annual exhibition, opened last week. I achieved top exhibition print, monochrome, colour, and landscape prints plus some 14 merits. I'm particularly pleased because these are among my personal 2019 favourites. Nice to have the judges agree with me. But I'm more thrilled for Vince Calo who won all the portraiture trophies (4) for 2 beautiful images - see our website (hopefully they're up now). And Pauline Mose...l, 2 trophies I believe, wow! The exhibition runs to the end of this month at the Hamra Centre, West Torrens library. It's worth seeing, probably our club's best yet. Winning images are attached, plus a merit (the fisherman and lantern). I think I've posted these before. The monochrome won best print. It was the only one I submitted from my recent Canadian Rockies trip.

07.01.2022 Hello to all in this time of isolation. I fervently hope you are safe, sane (well at least no less sane than you were) and using the time on your hands to explore your creative centre. Myself, I am embarking on at least one worthwhile image per day from my extensive garden - breathe easier, I will not be posting these unless I think they're REALLY worthwhile. Here are some birdie portraits, taken at Laratinga last year.

04.01.2022 A couple more from the Canadian Rockies trip. I'm not used to acqua in landscapes, but if it's there (and it is in Canadian lakes), why not celebrate it?

03.01.2022 Another couple of images from the Flinders, both captured from Acacia ridge at Arkaroola in August.

02.01.2022 Happy New Year, a couple more images from the Flinders trip last year, and also to let you know I have a new blog out on my photographic website: https://peterbarrien.com/blog/
