10.01.2022 ARTS + CULTURE CENTRE ON THE WAY TO TOWNHEAD PARK Following several decades of community requests, Singleton Council is progressing construction of an arts and ...culture centre to be built adjoining the Visitor Information Centre in Townhead Park. The $4.08 million project is funded by a $2.787million NSW Government grant from Create NSW (announced by Michael Johnsen MP - Nationals Member for Upper Hunter in December 2018) with the remainder by Council. There has been considerable community input into the need for the centre and in developing the design, with a community advisory committee established to help guide the project. The final design has now been received, and includes more than 200m2 of gallery space, two artists studios including a wet space and digital space, work room and storage. The building will connect to the existing Visitor Information Centre via an entrance court that will also be a space for sculptural artworks and a place for people to meet. The design also incorporates a number of sustainable and environmental elements including solar energy. The Arts and Culture Centre has been designed in keeping with the Townhead Park MasterPlan, and in conjunction with existing facilities on the site including the Visitor Information Centre, caf and playground. It will transform this important location off the Hunter Expressway and New England Highway into a hub for visitors, the arts and culture, recreation and leisure.
