23.01.2022 One of our favourite foods is the topic of conversation in episode 93. Originally from Keith in South Australia, Maddison Clonan studied Environmental Science at Flinders University before heading to to Melbourne for a job in sales. However Maddison had her sights set on Darwin and so after a couple of years she packed her belongings into her car and drove 4,000kms north, to the tropics. She knew only one person when she came to Darwin and adjusting to the tropical climate wa...s a little challenging at first. But she did and after a few odd jobs she eventually landed a position as a research scientist in the Department of Primary Industries and Natural Resources. Maddison studies mangoes. Originally from New Hampshire, Dave joined the US Air Force as a medic and worked in the US until he was posted to Woomera in outback South Australia. He met his Filipino wife there. They eventually returned to the US but Australias Cupids arrow had pierced Daves heart. He returned to Woomera as a civilian and then moved to Alice Springs with his wife and two girls.... 23.01.2022 Our guest for episode 161 is Greg Thomson. Greg is the General Manager of the NT News. One of three brothers, Greg grew up in Nhulunbuy on the eastern coast of the Northern Territory.... Following high school, Greg became a cadet journalist at the NT Newspaper. His career has taken him from Darwin to Perth, and Hong Kong to Alice Springs. He tells some great yarns including the story of his family driving from Nhulunbuy to Sydney and crossing the crocodile infested Goyder River and the windscreen of the car being underwater. 21.01.2022 Senator Sam McMahon is one of two senators representing the Northern Territory in Canberra. Born in Sydney and raised in Queensland, Sam (as she is known) knew she wanted to be a veterinarian from a very young age. A very dogged and determined individual, Sam achieved top marks in high school and went on to study veterinary science at the University of Queensland. However it was a summer stint on a cattle station in the Northern Territory that sealed her fate.... She moved to the NT after finishing her studies and has run a number of veterinary businesses including winning Telstra Business of the Year. When a senate seat became vacant, Sam was preselected by the Country Liberal party. She won the seat in the last Federal election and has been a senator for just over a year. Originally from Kolkata, Sanj (as shes known) grew up in an interesting household by Australian standards. After earning postgraduate qualifications in hospitality, Sanj joined the Taj group of hotels and moved to Mumbai and then The Maldives, where she met her future husband.... At the age of 94, Austin is still actively involved in contributing to the NT through various heritage and charitable causes.... Born in Melbourne in 1925, Austin arrived in Darwin at the age of four. His father, Eric Asche, was a Crown Law Officer. Austin spent his formative years here before leaving to Melbourne to continue his schooling and university, where he followed his fathers footsteps and became a lawyer. After being granted refugee status by the Australian government, Lyma’s family moved to Darra in Brisbane where she grew up. She was a bookish girl and went on to study politics, philosophy and law at the University of Queensland.... After graduating, Lyma worked for the Australian government in Canberra and then Darwin. But she spent all of her spare time working pro bono as a Human Rights lawyer in Cambodia.
