25.01.2022 The six pillars of International Mens Day are standing the test of time. To promote positive male role models; not just movie stars and sports men but every day, working class men who are living decent, honest lives. To celebrate mens positive contributions to society, community, family, marriage, child care, and to the environment.... To focus on mens health and wellbeing; social, emotional, physical and spiritual. To highlight discrimination against men; in areas of social services, social attitudes and expectations, and law. To improve gender relations and promote gender equality. To create a safer, better world; where people can be safe and grow to reach their full potential.

24.01.2022 What do Women Want? This is one of the sections of my soon to be released website and I thought I would take a moment to explore with you today. To be honest, women in my experience want (or better still) are searching for many of the same things as men; acceptance, value, love, sense of meaning, a fulfilling life etc. However, read any book on women and they will also have their own unique set of wants.... Wants such as security, romance, to be made feel special to name only a few. Wise is the man who can determine and provide just what a woman wants. Some would argue that the list is never-ending or that we can never really know what a woman wants and feels, but I disagree. Research has determined a pretty defined list of likes/needs/wants of a woman and brave is the man to deviate from this well established and proven list. Perhaps though, you might like to add a few extra of your own, knock yourself out! However, be sure to include the above if you are sincere in wanting to please that special someone in your life. What about sex I hear you ask? Sorry fellas, it doesnt even make the top 5. Although, if you nail these others, well, let me just say, you may be surprised at the response
24.01.2022 In todays fast paced world, it is often difficult to slow down and take a break. What with family, work & community responsibilities, how on earth do we find the time to step away from the rat race and simply BE. In this series, I will explore some simple strategies to help you achieve just that.... The first is to make use of your calendar or diary. At the beginning of each week (consider Sun pm), you sit down and schedule some self-care time for you! This may be a walk, coffee with friends, reading a book, whatever floats your boat. By taking care of you, this then helps you better take care of the rest of the week
23.01.2022 Today and indeed everyday, it is appropriate to check in and ask; Are you OK?
22.01.2022 Sick and tired of doing the same old thing and expecting a different result? Change things up and try a new approach. Who knows, you may just find a fresh way to being, having or doing!

21.01.2022 It is said, bad news comes in 3s This week has been one of those sad weeks. Sad for me as I recall the life of three persons whom I either knew personally and well or via a close friend or acquaintance. Grief and loss comes to all of us during our life. It is not a matter of if but rather of when we experience this some form of loss and sadness. Now while my particular grief is around the loss of loved ones, it can be about virtually anything we can experience these feelin...gs. To dismiss or bury those feelings is extremely unhelpful at best and devastatingly unhealthy at worst. Our body stores feelings in a physical sense and if we have unresolved grief or loss, this can have devastating influence on our own physical and mental health. Seeking the assistance of someone such as myself as an experienced counsellor can help you navigate whatever loss or grief you are processing right now or in the past that you are yet to deal with. Loss can be loss of relationship, loss of future, loss of health, loss of opportunity, loss of family or friends or pets, loss of job, loss of access and so the list goes on. Equally, grief has many facets and can come upon us at any time for a good number of reasons and its important that we take the time to process this appropriately. So, if you or someone you know is struggling with grief and loss, please reach out for some professional assistance. You may be surprised as how effective sharing your thoughts and feelings with a counsellor really is!

19.01.2022 My wife recently posted: The Best Apology is changed behaviour This got me thinking (not only about my need to change my behaviour at times), but in a broader sense, how open & willing are we to examine our behaviour and consider a change for the better.... Often it is those who are closest to us that we hurt the most and whom we also unfortunately, ignore the most, ouch! In all relationships (but especially marriage or defacto), it is of paramount importance that we take a regular inventory of our actions to check and see if some of them may need a little smartening up. Is it time you took a check-up from the neck up, hmm?

16.01.2022 We all know how important sleep is for children to help them grow and be healthy little persons, however, did you know that sleep is equally important for grown-ups too! Depending on your current age, you will require between 6-8 hours sleep every night. If you are not getting this regular sleep, then your emotions and wellbeing are at risk, not to mention your overall heath. Research has shown that during sleep, our sub-conscious rearranges all those random thoughts and calm...s the mind and soul. Part of the outcome is so that you awake with a fresh mind, ready for a new day. Try and go to bed at the same time every night to create a healthy routine. Stay off devices that emit white light such as mobile phones and computers as these are proven to cancel out our bodies natural release of melatonin, a natural chemical which is realised from 9.00pm Heres to a healthy nights sleep, nigh night
16.01.2022 Its is often said that the road to success is paved with good intensions. For me, its been to post regularly on this site, but alas, time marches on and I find this to be the first post of the year, yikes! However, now that some momentum has been established, lets trust we can keep the ball rolling What intentions do you have that have maybe fallen by the wayside?
16.01.2022 I love this analogy! You are holding a cup of coffee when someone comes along and bumps into you or shakes your arm, making you spill your coffee everywhere. Why did you spill the coffee? ... "Because someone bumped into me!!!" Wrong answer. You spilled the coffee because there was coffee in your cup. Had there been tea in the cup, you would have spilled tea. *Whatever is inside the cup is what will spill out.* Therefore, when life comes along and shakes you (which WILL happen), whatever is inside you will come out. It's easy to fake it, until you get rattled. *So we have to ask ourselves... what's in my cup?"* When life gets tough, what spills over? Joy, gratefulness, peace and humility? Anger, bitterness, harsh words and reactions? Life provides the cup, YOU choose how to fill it. Today let's work towards filling our cups with gratitude, forgiveness, joy, words of affirmation; and kindness, gentleness and love for others.

13.01.2022 This time of year can be very difficult for some people. While the majority are getting busy and making preparations for Christmas celebrations with family & friends, others are silently wishing this season would be over. By all means do what it is you plan to do, but give a thought also to the lonely, displaced and struggling in tour sphere of influence
10.01.2022 What a heartbreaking & uplifting story at the same time...
08.01.2022 Mental Health Week We have just had another mental health week come and go, but what have we learned? The statistics alone are fairly bleak:... 1 in 5 aged between 16-85yrs will experience some form on mental health this year. The most common mental illnesses are depression, anxiety and substance abuse. Almost 45% of Australians will experience a mental health issue at some point in their lives. Suicide is the leading cause of death for people Australians aged 25-44 and second leading cause of death for young people aged 15-24. I could go on, but I am sure you get the point that we have a crisis of mental health today in The Lucky Country. And why is this so? Are we any different to other countries? What can I do to help change the tide of mental health? Much of our issues in Australia stem from a breakdown of the family unit. We are designed to live in relationship with one another and the primary unit for such relationship has historically been and should remain as the family unit. We need to work harder at keeping this core building block of society heathy and strong. This means marriages and defacto relationships need to be worked at every day in order to keep this fundamental building block of society health and strong. Children learn much of their development in the first 5-6yrs of their life and seldom what they learn during this period changes in later life. This means, mums and dads need to role model to their children good values and morals and most importantly a strong and health family life. When we have a family unit functioning the way it was designed, then we will help change the tidal wave of mental health decline in this country.
