25.01.2022 This is what Labor Governments get done. Some highlights from the Victorian State Labor Government’s budget announcements today. Investments in clean energy, public housing, and job creation are what we need to get Wills back to work.

25.01.2022 Australia can and should be a country that makes things. A Labor Government is going to build trains in Australia and create local jobs. #Auspol

21.01.2022 Let’s bring more manufacturing jobs back home.

20.01.2022 There are plenty of social housing units that need repair, and plenty that need building. I went to Brunswick this morning with Peter Khalil to talk with resid...ents about their needs. Peter and I both grew up in social housing. I know first hand the power of having a safe place to call home. That’s something every Australian deserves. Dan Andrews has pledged $5.3 billion, but we’ve seen nothing from the Morrison Government. Labor will build more social housing because it’s good for jobs, and because it’s good for people.

19.01.2022 Our media should be a reflection of our multicultural nation. However we have a long way to go to achieve this. Join me for a conversation on racism in the Australian media. https://www.facebook.com/events/1466500960212204/

19.01.2022 Labor’s vision is for Australia to have the skills, smarts and people within industry to make things here and sell them on the global market. Investing more in people is critical to achieve this. That’s why if elected a Federal Labor Government will create an Australian Skills Guarantee to ensure apprentices have jobs on major projects #Auspol

17.01.2022 Discussion of the tweet put out by the Chinese Foreign Ministry today.

15.01.2022 Today in Parliament Labor is moving an amendment to the law for the government to permanently increase JobSeeker.

14.01.2022 This week as we celebrate NAIDOC Week, we acknowledge the breadth and depth of First People’s knowledge, achievements, experiences and stories. The theme for this year is "Always was and Always will be" I encourage you to have a look at the different events taking place this year at https://www.naidoc.org.au/

12.01.2022 Wonderful to be at the Coburg Scout Hall to celebrate 50 years since the Hall was opened. At the rededication ceremony today the hall was renamed Tuddenham Hall in acknowledgement of the wonderful service of Connie and Tom Tuddenham. Connie and Tom have been contributing to the scout community in Coburg for over 60 years combined, the hall, group and scout community would not be the same without them! It was fantastic to see all the smiling faces of the scouts and their families at a socially-distant picnic. I'm sure I'm not the only one who is glad to see the back of Zoom!

12.01.2022 Recently my employer let me know that although I will remain stood down from my position, my company will no longer be entitled for JobKeeper, so I have had to apply for JobSeeker. The cut rates for this payment mean I may not be able to cover rent, bills and food, and I won’t even have the option of being able to afford the long term mental healthcare that I should be receiving on a fortnightly basis. Tiana, Brunswick East. The recent Jobseeker and Jobkeeper cuts come at the worst possible time for Victorians. It makes absolutely no economic sense to reduce either of these payments now when the employment options are simply not available. Sign my petition to help me call for the urgent reversal of these cuts: https://peterkhalil.com.au//september-cuts-to-jobseeker-an

08.01.2022 As someone who grew up in public housing, I’m proud of where I came from and how it helped shape me into who I am today. Earlier this week I chatted to residents at the Barkly st public housing in Brunswick about their concerns. It was clear that we need to see more investment at a Federal level. Labor’s commitment to public housing will not only create jobs, it will give people their dignity back.

07.01.2022 I remember watching the 86 World Cup as a 13 year old up late at night watching him singlehandedly dismantle entire defences. He will be remembered for the hand of god goal against England but really the enduring memory is that other magnificent goal where he danced and scythed his way from the back half all the way through the entire English team to score a goal. He gave us all such unbridled wonder and pleasure watching his genius. ... RIP Pibe de Oro.

06.01.2022 Victorians should be very proud of their hard work and perseverance today. It was hard, but we did it and we saved lives.

05.01.2022 The proposed cuts to the Hindi Language program at Latrobe Uni one of only two programs remaining in Australia would be devastating. Not only for our multicultural and migrant communities to stay connected to their language and culture, but it is critical for Australia’s international relationships, trade and overall national interests. We’re already seeing the direct impacts of the Morrison Government’s cuts to our universities. I am calling on them to reverse these unfair cuts and to work with Latrobe Uni to ensure these language programs will be available to students next year and beyond.

04.01.2022 Well done Victoria!

03.01.2022 Today I showed Anthony Albanese (a fellow houso) around the Barkly Street public housing towers in Brunswick. We discussed with residents their needs and our commitment to federal funding so desperately needed for repairs and maintenance.

01.01.2022 This is such wonderful news. Particularly for her family, friends and colleagues, who worked so tirelessly for her. Well done to the Australian Government and the Members of Parliament, from all sides, who campaigned for her release. Special thanks to the DFAT officials who worked round the clock. It really was a team Australia effort. Wishing her a smooth and successful adjustment back into Australia, surrounded by loved ones.
