24.01.2022 This was my sequence for the DiG Project in conjunction with Neil Hawkins - now with improved sound!

23.01.2022 Paper Sun, the band that I performed with at the States of Suspension event at the Cultural Centre back in February will be playing tonight at Junction 142 in Katoomba - dont miss it.

22.01.2022 How very cool - what an excellent soundl! Thanks to Neil Hawkins for the heads up

22.01.2022 Check this out - and you thought the original was spooky. Quite amazing to hear the emotive qualities that can be imparted by gesture on a cello... John Hardaker

21.01.2022 It's a happening thing - PaperSun live online, September 13

21.01.2022 Paper Sun are playing next week at Lawson - looking forward to creating more immersive sounds and sights!

18.01.2022 Feeling stressed out by everything COVID19? Take some time out and have a listen to this mix of a track I created for my research, but also remixed for a journal article - just happened upon it again today and forgotten how well it had come up

16.01.2022 In conjunction with photographer Marty Walker, Ill be be chatting with Wendy Tsai for the Talking Artz podcast at the Nolan On Lovel Gallery on Sat September 7 from 3pm. Well talk about the Queen Street Riches and Textures project we created for Penrith City Council, our creative process and a few other interesting bits besides, it should be a whole lot of fun - come and join us!

15.01.2022 Our next and final show for 2018 - tremendously looking forward to this one, it should be an amazing experience

15.01.2022 Sensational.... nature at her best :)

14.01.2022 Feeling quite chuffed - have been chosen to compose and produce a soundscape for Penrith City Council for St Marys Corner, working with a photographer and local communities to produce a multimedia project. https://www.culturecreativity.com.au//qsrt-2018-windows-on

14.01.2022 This is a rather splendid expression of tone colour explored in percussion, beautifully expressed by Joshua Hill - Steve Gunning, I know you would enjoy this, especially on some decent speakers.

14.01.2022 This is a rather wonderful release - the marriage between western orchestral minimalism and the traditional Yolgnu chants improvised by Gurrumul work together brilliantly well, and confirm a few things for me. The kind of minimalism propounded by the likes of Reich, Riley and Glass and echoed in this work can actually work beautifully, provided it acknowledges its origin in traditional musics, otherwise it can tend to sound rather mechanical and process-driven - the adoption... of Terry Rileys In C by Africa Express illustrates this beautifully, as it almost brings everything full circle. Gurrumuls final work is truly great because it bridges that gap between traditional and western traditions and brings a wonderful humanity with it. It also says to me that Ive been on the right path with my own composition and the approach Ive been taking so far, using texture, repetition and rhythmic interplay - it always felt as if I was tapping into something very natural and innate. This release truly deserves to be the album of the year - I hope it sells shed-loads. See more

13.01.2022 Fantastic, what a great demonstration of an alternative use for guitar pedals though an instrument we wouldnt normally associate with them. Lara is a joy to watch, she clearly enjoys what she does and is totally in tune with her instrument - love the work on harmonics at 3:05, brilliant!

13.01.2022 If anyone is interested in teaching at Abbey Street Music, we have a number of spaces available for hire at very reasonable rates - just call me on 0417 376 733 or drop me a line at [email protected]

12.01.2022 My better half Louise Holmes is holding her first solo exhibition at the Nolan on Lovel Gallery, opening this afternoon at 2pm. Come along, grab a glass of vino and check out some fine artwork

11.01.2022 Neil Hawkins and myself are exhibiting at the Creating Our Futures exhibition at Stirrup Gallery in Marrickville on Fri Feb 22, showcasing artwork focused on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. If you feel inclined to vote for us for the Peoples Choice award you can do so here and check out other worthy projects: https://www.creatingourfuture.com.au/theartists

10.01.2022 And in part #2 of arent the sounds of nature wonderful? prepare to have your mind blown by the sound of ice sheets dispersing and separating - it sounds more like a Star Wars laser battle

10.01.2022 This is gorgeous - I cant quite believe Ive only just stumbled across this. Tim Bruniges early work is quite brilliant, Eno-esque with wonderfully gritty, lo-fi footage, beautiful and wonderfully evocative

09.01.2022 Nice to know MTNS MADE are still featuring my piece Sunlight in their promos, very gratifying... thanks folks! :)

09.01.2022 Like to follow my releases on Bandcamp? More coming soon... https://immed8.bandcamp.com/follow_me

09.01.2022 This is what Ive been up to with the DiG creative team for the last few months, our project Urban Futures, drawing attention to issues of heat in the Penrith basin and some of the many reasons for it, for example urbanisation. My music section, Urban Jungle starts at around 6.05. Music in the first section is by Peter Jovi and the final section by Me-Lee Hay, with cinematography by Adam McPhilbin and graphic treatment by Neil Hawkins.

08.01.2022 Got a few minutes? Turn up your audio and listen to this, be prepared to have your ears and mind blown... thanks to Sci Westwood for the link.

08.01.2022 This is one hell of a sonic trip - recorded entirely of crickets and cicadas sounds, but with groove! Wrap your ears around it...

08.01.2022 Wonderfully informative interview with Michael Hohnen, Gurrumuls long time collaborator and friend, on the making of Djarimirri. Nice shot of a few folk he met along the way at the end of the article ;)

07.01.2022 Myself and Neil Hawkins have had our work selected to appear for the Creating Our Future exhibition at the Stirrup Gallery, Marrickville from February 22. The exhibition raises awareness of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, encouraging creativity as a form of storytelling and sharing ideas: https://www.creatingourfuture.com.au

07.01.2022 Along with my compadres from DiG digital creative space, Ill be doing a presentation of our work at the next MTNS MADE Salon on November 21, and talking a little about the DiG mentorship and residency program. Didnt know Id feature in the promo though!

07.01.2022 Its a happening thing - PaperSun live online, September 13

06.01.2022 Marty Walker and myself finally had the opportunity to launch the Sharing Stories, Sharing Spices project this afternoon for Queen Street Riches and Textures in St Marys. Check out some of Martys fabulous images and my soundscapes, theyve come up pretty well I must say: https://www.culturecreativity.com.au//qsrt-2019-sharing-st

06.01.2022 WeTransfer always have some interesting insights into creativity, along with cool infographics - worth a browse

06.01.2022 Quite blown away by this a capella rendition, as Im featuring an analysis of this song in my thesis. If you know Radioheads Daydreaming, youll realise what an accomplished and sensitive rendition this is of the original, all done with the power of the human voice

05.01.2022 Ive recently been working on a multimedia project for Penrith City Council, documenting in sound the rich diversity of cultures in the St Marys region, centred around the Queen Street precinct. As part of the project, myself and photographer Marty Walker are in the very fortunate position of capturing the preparation of meals particular to various cultures - so far weve documented Japanese, Iranian, Egyptian, Afghani and Filipino meals, beautifully prepared and of course, ...enthusiastically sampled by all in attendance. These are a few photos of our Afghani experience the previous week - the meal is called Ghabali Polo, using lamb cooked in conjunction with rice, topped with shredded carrot and raisins. The meat is served inside the rice, which keeps it tender and moist. My only regret is not being able to convey the taste of the meal in sound... See more

04.01.2022 Unusual, but quite hauntingly beautiful - 3 singers and corrugraphones (cut lengths of pipe that produce overtones or harmonics when twirled in the air). Gorgeous :)

04.01.2022 Tremendously happy to playing with Paper Sun for WinterMagic next weekend - we have fabulous new music to share with you all Tremendously happy to playing with Paper Sun for WinterMagic next weekend - we have fabulous new music to share with you all

03.01.2022 Great to see this happen - The Last Babushka Doll, in which my music is featured and was filmed entirely in the Blue Mountains employing local crew and actors, has been selected to appear at the St Kilda Film Festival in Melbourne. Hope it goes down a treat and scoops a prize!

03.01.2022 This is such a great idea from Eno, talking about the idea of surrender in creative pursuits, the idea of letting oneself go entirely - it underpins much of what I envisioned for States of Suspension

01.01.2022 This is a short excerpt from the States Of Suspension concert movie that Im hoping to have finished by the end of the year. The sound track has proved a bit challenging, but its looking great so far. If youd like to catch the band play this and some new material, were on tonight at the Blue Mountains Hotel in Lawson from 8pm.

01.01.2022 The States of Suspension event that was performed with PaperSun back in February of 2018 was recorded in the studio in the following May, and will be available as a release and hopefully launched later in the year - stay tuned! Photo by Ben Luscombe
