22.01.2022 Although i recieved this info through the underground like a kaos agent, i think its important we have an opportunity to voice our opinion. Well it just doesnt appear to be advertised anywhere. The ten kilometres of commercial nets in the gippsland lakes that can encase the Mitchell river mouth is sure to come up. We all know at times of flood the bass, bream estuary perch etc are all severly impacted. A service interuption will occur during the event. ... Hope to see you there. INVITATION Fish Survey Results The East Gippsland Catchment Management Authority would like to invite you to a presentation by Dan Stoessel from the Arthur Rylah Institute on the outcomes of recent native fish investigations. Dan will be presenting the results of the Mitchell River fish survey and the Snowy River Perch and Australian Bass studies recently undertaken. These surveys focus on native fish species that are present in our river systems and will help prioritise future decision making. The presentation will be on: Tuesday 8 May 2016 9am til 12noon at the DELWP offices in Bairnsdale Please confirm your attendance by contacting Melissa Birleson at [email protected] by Thursday 3 May 2018.

16.01.2022 The picture below is my daughter, Kimy with an estuary perch she caught at the highway bridge in Bairnsdale November of 2016. It was a cracker of a fish. She was so excited to catch such a great fish and I was so proud. Its a special memory. Sadly, last year commercial fishing nets caught 5 tonnes of estuary perch, the biggest catch for 39 years, and this year there arent many size perch around. Thats why I am asking you to come to a community meeting at the Bairnsdale R...SL 6:30 PM on Tuesday Night 3 July to try and get the nets removed from the Lake. At the meeting youll here how a general decline in fish numbers is affecting us all. Every person counts and just by turning up youll help us send a message.
15.01.2022 Winner winner chicken dinner. Kim won her division event today and I am back at work.

A free BBQ, the Coast Guard and so much more. See you at the Bairnsdale store 6 pm to 9 pm.
14.01.2022 So proud to be part of this kids life. A great day today and she qualified to play golf at the state final in Melbourne in december. A great day today. Woo hoo. Back at work
14.01.2022 We dropped into bairnsdale bait supply this fine Anzac day and the nice lady said try this. It was small fresh whitebait and it works really well. With good garfish taking sandworm and lovely weather its a great time to be fishing. The first decisions in fishing is what do you want to catch and where to go?. The Mitchell river has many secret spots and sometimes you need to move to find the fish. The garfish are large and once found in no time you will have a bucket full. B...ag limit 40 per person. They can be found from grassy banks right up to the wy yung footy ground. The rig for gars is simple, get some sandworm, a float and a number 12 size hook. Keep your float and bait moving slowly with a few pauses which will create lots of competition for your bait. Good bream about but they are patchy, fishing with 6 pound line, a 00 sinker running straight to the hook with an occasional wiggle should see you find one. Fish like structure and snags so keep that in mind. The food fish feed on is generally right at your feet close in. Hint hint. Sandworm or whitebait both working well. A few large female flathead have arrived but not in big numbers. Any flathead over 38cm is a female and a breeder. The boys will be coming up the river soon and the better eating. I will tell you when they arrive. If targeting the flathead make sure you have some heavier leader, ten to fifteen pound does the trick and saves you losing the fish. Occasional trevally, perch, stingrays, eels and tailor caught as well. Overall the river is fishing great and a great time to get out. If you need help the staff at bcf are great and know the stuff.
14.01.2022 Winner winner chicken dinner live from the Cranbourne Junior Open Kim won her section in the girls stableford. See ya tommorow.
12.01.2022 A quick trip to the beautiful Lake Tyers this morning before work and got a big surprise. We are so lucky to live in such a great spot. Get out and enjoy.

11.01.2022 Attention 6 million 3 hundred and 87 thousand fellow Victorians. Here is one of your representatives to play at the Australian Championships in Queensland in November. Congratulations Kim Erwin on an excellent third place today at Sandhurst Golf Club in bloody tough windy rainy conditions. Woo hoo. Back to work in the morning.
10.01.2022 Sunday service interuption as we head to Melbourne for a major golf event, this time at Sandhurst golf course the home of the Professional Golf Association. Kim will attempt to become part of the Victorian State 12 and under team who then go on to the Australian Championships at Toowoomba. Good luck kim. Services will resume Monday as usual.
10.01.2022 Upcoming service interuption on Monday 18 March due to Kims attempt to qualify for the State final. I will be available from 3pm on this day.
09.01.2022 Service interuption tommorow as we are playing golf again at Bairnsdale Golf Club. It is expected we will commence service approximately 4pm.
07.01.2022 Have had requests for another fishing report for the Mitchell river so here it is for those interested. Here is the scan from the butter factory jetty on monday morning. The yellow bits are fish and lots of them. Yellow eye mullet everywhere. Sandworm is always a winner for the mullet, for the soft plastic anglers a zman bloodworm grub the way to go. Get the mullet while you can before they swim downstream into the nets. The dusky Flathead have been really quiet this year whi...ch is really sad. A huge netting of flathead last year by the commercial netters in the gippsland lakes the main reason. Estuary perch also quiet and once again with the netters taking the biggest catch for 39 years it will be a slow recovery. A couple of schools are still alive and we can only hope they breed this year. Garfish have left and headed to lakes entrance to become big sword fish. Bream are close in to the edges of the river with an occasional size fish being caught. The most common fish in the river is the long finned eel according to a recent survey. Good luck with them.
07.01.2022 A great trip to Queensland with Kim coming 17th in the Australian Championships An amazing effort. About to jump on the plane again so we should be ready for work from 9am in the morning. We both would sincerely like to thank everyone for the support.

05.01.2022 Need some help with this one please people. Lack of fishing reports from the Gippsland Lakes is of a real concern. Paynesville, Metung, Eagle Point and the the rivers that flow into the lakes need our help. Our community leaders are not listening and for the future of our kids we need to act. I am only an average Joe Citizen and never thought i would have to do anything like this.... I have started a go fund me page with the link below to try and change the direction. A like or share would be a bonus. Thanks for your help. https://www.gofundme.com/no-nets-in-gippsland-lakes
