24.01.2022 Chief health officer for QLD said today that Covid 19 will spread dramatically in the next 2 weeks and anticipates that 25% of QLD population will catch the bug. Of that number 80% will only get mild symptoms. There is a higher risk for elderly and sick people and this group needs a preemptive care focus. It is anticipated to run for up to 6 months and Laura Dance festival has been cancelled. Expo 2020 event is being assessed continually and will be directed by government dic...tate on mass gatherings. Postponement is an option. Cooktown has regional health facilities and other care venues available in need. We have the benefit of isolation, low population, good hygiene and diet options and great hospital/ pharmacutical facilities and staff. Primary responsibility rests with yourself and caution is paramount for anyone who has been travelling overseas or to an area where infection now exists. If any doubt exists ring the hospital. Take care and be considerate of others. Peter

22.01.2022 Change is inevitable and we have been privileged to see substantial positive change in Cook Shire over the last 12 years. As your Mayor, I have been lucky to have led 3 different Councils in the positive development of our shire community, facilities and services.Your new council will again take on the challenge of continuous improvement. Please visit my website to see our past achievements and plans for the future. https://www.peterscottforcookshiremayor.com/

21.01.2022 Thanks to our great staff and the community support services, paid and voluntary, for seeing us safely through the year. Have a happy and safe festive season. Peter & Sayah.

20.01.2022 ECQ have declared my success in winning the Mayoral vote for Cook Shire. It is a real privilege and responsibility that I will share with a great new Council. Sincere thanks to all those that supported me to ensure that we have proven experience and political influence to guide us through a challenging period.

19.01.2022 It is disturbing to hear that some Council candidates are speading lies about Council's financial position. Yesterday's last Council meeting was open to the public and attended by 3 proactive candidates. It is a shame that the gossip mongers have failed to attend any Council meetings, ask questions or get the real story. The financial statements presented, adopted and available on the website show that Council is in a very sound position going forward, probably the best shape we have been in for some time and is a result of a conservative and realistic strategy from both Council and staff. The real risk to our Shire is inexperience, failed capacity and unethical behaviour.

19.01.2022 The most dangerous thing at this time is complacency. The most important is individual behaviour. Please observe the measures put in place to protect our Cook Shire community.

18.01.2022 Peter Scott for Mayor Sent by Peter Scott Feb 18th, 12:19pm A voter asked me about my political persuasion and I answered:... Hi Jessie - small regional Councils such as ours often do not have a formal political affiliation. Because of our large size and small ratebase we rely heavily on State and Federal Government funding support to survive and progress and we need to have a pragmatic and open relationship with whichever party is in Government - but then also with the opposition. Having a credible relationship with the pollies and bureaucrats is paramount. I ran for the National Party in the State seat of Cook in 2006 and my personal political persuasion remains with the LNP however that does not stop me from having a very good working relationship - and the personal contact numbers of a number of ministers and directors general. Cheers Peter

18.01.2022 This is an interview I did with 4CA recently. Lots of topical info. http://www.4ca.com.au///50993-challenges-in-the-cook-shire

16.01.2022 Congratulations to our wonderful nominees and recipients of Australia Day awards and thanks to all who joined in making such a great evening at the PCYC in Cooktown. We are a multicultural and socially diverse Shire but the willingness of community support and care is heartwarming and gives us good reason to be proud of who and where we are. In 2020 we will continue our "progress with diversity".

16.01.2022 As of 2 hours ago there were no reported Corona virus cases north of Townsville. All public roads in Cook Shire are open and there is currently no intention to request any closures. Hopevale, Wujal and everyone else has full access to Cooktown supermarket, hospital, schools and other regional service facilities. Be considerate of others and take care of yourselves with the recommended health actions.

15.01.2022 The Federal Biosecurity Act will be extended to September for border security purposes, but the QLD Government will incrementally revise the access conditions into Cape York over the next 2-3 weeks in consultation with the 14 Cape and Torres Local Disaster Management Groups. (LDMGs) Cook LDMG has the key road access to the rest of Cape York. If the incidence of Covid 19 continues to drop in our southern regions we can expect a freeing up of movement to and from Cook Shire i...n the short term. We will of course need to respect the determination of our neighbouring Shire communities, continue to observe State social distancing rules and be cautiously reactive to any renewed outbreaks. It has been extremely challenging for all, but we have been able to keep safe - and with common sense, will be able to move progressively back to normality. Thanks for your wonderful efforts and personal sacrifice during this difficult time. Peter See more

13.01.2022 Thanks to the volunteers, businesses and helpers who welcomed the Azamara cruise ship visitors on the weekend. Despite it being very hot/humid, most of the 700 passengers came ashore on the recommendation of staff and those going back to the ship. M any comments around friendliness and authenticity. A special mention to Ashley Robbins for his great logistical on the pontoon, despite being partially run over by a wayward "gopher"

12.01.2022 I am honoured and privileged to be elected as Mayor for a third term. It comes due to the support of my family, friends and those in our community who value experience, ability and commitment. We are lucky to have a positive and enthusiastic new Council team and a dedicated and talented Council staff to continue our Shire's progress for the next 4 years. Sincere thanks for the confidence and trust of those who helped with my campaign on social media, with website management and most importantly, personal support and encouragement through your own influential networks. Let's continue to work together to achieve the best results. Thanks, Peter

11.01.2022 It's been a real privilege to have been involved in the evolution of Cook Shire as a resident, councillor and mayor for the last 16 years and I thank you all for supporting me on our journey. As a small regionally remote council and community we have made extraordinary progress in access, services and amenity in that time, while still being able to keep our friendly, caring character and lifestyle. We have great environmental, societal and business opportunities and challenges ahead and I have the proven commitment, vision and experience to help us achieve our goals. I again ask for your support in my running for Mayor in 2020 to confidently and energetically lead our Council team into this new decade. 10.01.2022 Despite the doom and gloom in the Federal and World economy we are progressing well with realistic and achievable goals. Address to Cooktown Chamber of Commerce (5 mins) 9 March 2016 questions. Thanks Mike and the Chamber for providing a great opportunity to discuss our economic future. Lets note some of the fundamentals that affect and direct, our Shire. 1 Geographically we are remote. Seasonally we get regular monsoons, & cyclones . We are limited to 7/8 months of oper...Continue reading

10.01.2022 A recent facebook post by the Cook Shire Ratepayers and Residents Association states incorrectly that Mayor Peter Scott to face charges in the District Court. The Facebook post has the imputation that I am facing criminal charges which is completely untrue. The Facebook post and the claim by the CSRRA is defamatory and I am considering my options. The post has now been removed by was available for public view for over 48 hrs. At last Wednesday’s Council meeting, I was serve...d with civil proceedings instituted by Ms Kym Jerome in the company of Ms Toni Lee, who is the secretary and spokesperson for CSRRA. I consider this a vexatious claim brought against me, acting in my capacity as Mayor, for civil damages, which I will defend strenuously. The ongoing negative and derogatory comment by the CSRRA spokespersons and their associates against sitting Council candidates is self-evident and deplorable. The present Council is totally lawful and legitimate until the election. I am still the Mayor. Going forward and in the current uncertain times associated with Covid 19, our Shire community needs Councillors who are well principled, experienced and proven community contributors, who have a positive and progressive attitude. 07.01.2022 I am happy to share plans/vision for our Shire with all candidates and residents because it won't happen without your support. Please visit my wesite and click on the VISION section http://www.peterscottforcookshiremayor.com/

05.01.2022 My granddaughter Aurelia was safely born last week at Brisbane in the public health system. She will continue to have support from the Australian government and people throughout her life and have the freedom to choose her religion, politics, diet, education, destination and the myriad of options that we sometimes take for granted. Living in Australia is a privelege not a right and generations before have struggled and died to bring us here. We are the lucky country but you make your own luck and it's our responsibility, all of us, to protect and improve our today and tomorrow.

05.01.2022 As mayor and the the chair of the local disaster management group we have been dealing, around the clock, with directives that change on a daily, sometimes hourly basis. This unprecedented crisis has created confusion and uncertainty, the likes of which we have never seen before. All three levels of government have been scrambling to address the real and imminent threat of COVID-19 and Local Government is at the forefront of this issue, making decisions to protect our commu...nities independently of our state and federal counterparts. Right now, in the face of Coronavirus, experienced and proven leadership could not be more important or relevant. I implore our Cook Shire community to allow us to continue navigating these incredibly challenging (and potentially deadly) times with the assurance of leadership that my 16 years in local government and 12 years chairing our disaster management responses, supported by the very capable team of councilors who are standing for re-election, brings. Vote to keep Cook Shire in safe hands. Please adhere to self-isolation and social distancing rules and see the link below for the latest updates. https://www.qld.gov.au//conditions/he/coronavirus-covid-19 - Peter
