09.02.2022 Great to see playspaces being used more and more by a wider demographics. Playspaces rightly so are becoming more challenging and their appeal is serving a greater purpose. This is Alpine Road Reserve in Marion SA where we created a ninja warrier experience in late 2020. #parkour #learningthroughmovement https://youtu.be/UNvyvj4_bcM

03.02.2022 Great conversation here for Inclusive Play considerations

28.01.2022 Play Australia SA managed to outwit Covid and put on an amazing free event on the worthy topic of Inclusive Play. This wouldn't be possible without the support of the sponsors Kompan, Surface Contractors Australia, Proludic, A Space, Outfront Concepts and Early Childhood Australia. What great speakers we had inc SA Childrens Commissioner Helen Connolly, Dr Ann Kennedy Behr, Deb Aukland Dept Education Architect, WAX Design, City of Adelaide, Niki Takos Principal Errington Special School, Ingrid Rigney Dept Human Services. Also special mention to the SA Play Aus committee that worked hard behind the scenes and amazing Dr Jane Webb Williams for stepping in for the MC role. #volunteersinplay, #playaustralia #PlaySA #playadvocacy Play Australia

22.01.2022 Pic from last week's national AILA award night. Thanks to Daniel Bennett State President (far left) for presenting the Education and Health award locally for Paringa Park Primary School. It was great to be joined by and share this recognition with School Principal Leanne Prior (left) and Business Manager Susan Lane (right). Couldn't have asked for better clients who's ambition is purely motivated by the childrens educational connection with nature, health and well-being. @aila_sa_ #PSLA #natureplaydesign @aila_national

22.01.2022 Excited to report that Paringa Park Primary School manged to scoop a National Landscape Award at the Australian Landscape Architecture Awards. Against a strong field of 15 entries across the country this is an amazing achievement for the school community. Thanks to the school Principal Leanne Prior for showing leadership and trust in an innovative masterplanning process and delivery of stage 1. We look forward to seeing the future stages of the master plan coming alive over future years. 20.01.2022 Very exciting development for nature play fans in SA. Great to see the Minister referencing Morialta as a benchmark. https://www.ausleisure.com.au//nature-play-at-the-heart-o/

20.01.2022 Great wee video highlighting some of the great features @ Jervois Street Reserve one of our earlier designs using the nature play design principles. The trees have taken off and will be a mini forest in no time at all. Thanks @playandgoadelaide for sharing.

19.01.2022 Wilfred Taylor Nature Playspace is open!!! It was a fantastic project to be involved with and to have such a wonderful collaborative approach and our thanks goes out to Local youth groups, local community, council staff, Artist Allan Sumner, Kaurna Elders, Cheese Factory art studio, LYPA, Natureplay SA and everyone else who made this possible including the lead contractors LCS for bringing the plans to life. 19.01.2022 Amazing world of biodiversity, plant habitat and cooling landscapes at this primary school in Perth that converted dead lawn space to a living world. #outdoorlearning #natureplaydesign

19.01.2022 We are coming to the end of UK trip and seen such amazing playspaces and met some great people who were able to share the story behind them. Also exposed the kids to history, culture and environments that shaped my passion for playful education and open ended oppourtunities. It was so rewarding to watch their inquiry based learning and joy evolve through first hand exposure. Excited for the year ahead and working with schools, kindys, state gov and councils across the state. At the same time saddened by the fires that have impacted so many. Just as nature regenerates I know we are tough and resilent community that will pull together to support one another.

19.01.2022 No school holidays would be complete without a visit back to Morialta for a full day of play. Such a relaxing play environment and awesome to hear the laughs and play chatter amongst the gums and creek. Feel so blessed to have played a significant part in its design, documentation and construction, it makes Daddy proud when the kids dont want to leave. 18.01.2022 Very excited to announce that PSLA and the community at Paringa Park Primary had a successful night at the Australian Landscape Architect SA awards. We took out top honours in the Health and Education category and we're extra fortunate to also be the SA winner in the Healthy Parks Healthy People award for the same project. The value in this project was not only the built outcomes but also the process that brought innovative planning and analysis to a primary school setting.... The focus was to create a sustainable, playable and educational setting that provided comfort and connection to nature, and importantly environmental resilience. Thanks to AILAsa for their recognition and to Paringa Park Primary for showing ambition and faith in this project which will inspire further site improvements. Excited that PPPS will now be considered for a national award...even small projects can make big changes https://aila.awardsplatform.com/gallery/YMblRQBr #Landscapearchitecture #natureplaydesign #ailasa #ailaawards #healthyparkshealthypeople #psla See more

18.01.2022 It's awesome to have the very talented Allan Sumner showcasing his detailed and interactive artwork at our biggest playspace development to date. This time for the City of Onkaparinga @ Wilfred Taylor Reserve.

17.01.2022 ’Landscape architecture is about more than parks. While landscape architects have long been committed to improving the health and resilience of our environment,... the discipline has arguably been slower to articulate agendas for environmental justice and social equity. As Daniel Bennett, jury chair for the 2020 Australian Institute of Landscape Architects South Australia and Northern Territory awards, says, there is still so much to doembracing our first nations, building gender equity, and demanding communities can shape their places to ensure they aren’t dumbed down by inadequate planning.’ Read more: https://www.foreground.com.au/parks-plac/diverse-by-design/ Image: Paringa Park Primary School by Peter Semple Landscape Architect, winner of AILA's Excellence Award for a Health and Education Landscape and the Healthy Parks Healthy People SA Award.

16.01.2022 Goodbye 2020 it was bad but not all bad. We could still build and play and for that we feel blessed, but we have friends and family here and far who have been less fortunate. We think of them as we all hope for a better and healthier new year.

16.01.2022 It's our biggest nature inspired and inclusive playspace design ever and it's nearing completion with some of the big play items appearing on site in the last couple of weeks. Check out the video below. Great team work and collaboration. Thanks to the City of Onkaparinga and State Gov for making this possible. Can't wait to tell you more about the experiences on offer and the key contributors. Watch this space #PSLA #natureplayspaces #natureplaydesign #architectofplay #natureplay #inclusiveplay

14.01.2022 Thanks Play Australia National for the opportunity to present earlier last month on Inclusive Play Design. 14.01.2022 Great day for learning and sharing with Nature Play SA. We got to present for over 2.5hrs so feeling pretty tired now. But at the same time feeling energised hearing awesome stories from Glenn from mobile junk play, also Amanda Parslow who we worked with at St Anthonys in Millicent, the kids from Hallet Cove Primary who shared their child led redevelopment and so much more. Met so many educators who are on an awesome journey to make play in nature a permanent fixture. Thanks @natureplaysa for letting us play a part!! #PSLA #natureplayspaces #natureplaydesign #natureplay #landscapearchitecture #natureplayprinciples

10.01.2022 Wilfred Taylor Reserve is getting close to opening some sneak peak pictures supplied by council

09.01.2022 I think you will agree that 2020 has been an interesting year for many. This year has certainly made me reflect on events overseas and close to home. A chance to evaluate what's important from a professional and personal perspective. In conclusion, I have decided to significantly reduce my PSLA consultancy and with much vigor and excitement move back into local government. I have been very lucky with my private work to have had some excellent clients and co-collaborators. PSL...A has allowed me to test my design theories and showcase the nature play design principles. This trailblazing approach from 2014 has really changed the play landscape in SA; in public and educational sites across the state. We now see more holistic and developmentally richer experiences being offered that are innovative, nature based and challenging. However, the connection to these project sites and their evolution is temporary; and I have missed the opportunity for ongoing connection and potential for further evolution and research. I have no doubt that the best design outcomes evolve when the designer is invested with a single community in an ongoing partnership. I have also missed being part of a bigger diverse team, that shares a creative and innovative passion for a single goal....improving a communities wellbeing. I will be joining the City of Marion as a Senior Landscape Architect and I will be working with a talented team of planners and landscape architects. We have an ambitious program to spend $14.5m to upgrade 120 Reserves and playspaces over 8 years which is an exciting investment for local and regional families. We have also partnered with the Department of the Environment in creating a destination playspace at Glenthorne National Park, a Morialta of the South. So what will happen to PSLA, well as the acronym suggests Peter Semple Landscape Architect will still exist as thats me :-) , but the private work will be limited in a reduced capacity to play advocacy, pro bono collaborations and some high-level consultancy. My passion for play has not diminished as I head into a new capture, I'm focused and excited about creating innovative and exemplar play and open space for the City of Marion. Thanks once again to all those that I have had the privilege to work with in recent times and hopefully our paths will cross again.

07.01.2022 When you have been in isolation and dusting out the archives I came across this video interview that covers the background to the Morialta Project that I forgot to release at the time. Hope it gives you a bit of an insight into the background story and design ideas that shaped this very unique natural playspace. https://youtu.be/j40GiBVQkAE #morialtanatureplayspace #psla #natureplaydesign #natureplaydesignprinciples #architectofplay ps sorry for my strong accent

07.01.2022 Peter Semple Landscape Architects (PSLA) have recently experienced a demand for small to mid-tier design and construct projects for nature play and outdoor learning environments across South Australia at educational and public sites. To serve this market we are currently seeking expression of interest from non-design focused landscape contractors to collaborate in this delivery model. A preferred landscape contractor will be identified for each zonal region which may include... Mount Lofty Ranges, Yorke Peninsula, Lower South East, Murraylands, Riverlands, Eyre Peninsula etc and urban areas including City North, City Central and City South. Experience with working on educational sites is preferred. The evaluation will be based upon qualifications. Insurances, previous project experiences etc. Successful applicant will enter into a memorandum of understanding outlining clear roles and responsibilities in the delivery of Design and Construct projects. Should this be of interest please contact Peter Semple via email [email protected] or call 0404 971 376 to discuss further.

03.01.2022 Our first project in Victoria is happening at Lake Cullulleraine. Looking forward to working with the Local community to maximise the play potential and celebrate this beautiful location.

02.01.2022 Just as the sun comes out to play we have just opened our latest educational playspace at St Joseph's Kingswood. Thanks to the school leadership for entrusting the process. Middle of last year we captured children's voice working with Nature Play SA to create a concept plan that was endorsed prior to Christmas. We then created a suite of documentation drawing to go to the market and gain competitive quotes. Construction commenced early June and opened today. Thanks to Nature Play SA for their early involvement, Dirtwork Landscapes acting as the lead contractor who provided great dialogue and quality of work, LYPA and local installer Landscape Construct for realising the design of the main play structures with tricky constraints. #natureplaysa #natureplay #PSLA #landscapearchitecture #natureplaydesign

02.01.2022 Late last year we had a giant idea and Trolled Thomas Dambo, world renowned recycling artist to come to our shores and showcase his creative genius; and equally tell a story that would support SA's ambition to be the leader in global sustainability. At the same time this would create a eco tourism destination. As you can imagine he and his team was equally excited about the prospect of coming to our region. We put together a joint ideas submission to State Government and happ...y to showcase this here. As you can imagine alot of things have happened since then from bush fires to Covid 19 that has meant we haven't yet had the backing to make this happen. We hope that in the near future we can bring Thomas to South Australia and happy to chat to anyone who would like to hear more and make this happen at this or another location. #thomasdambo #trollsarecoming #collaboration #ecotourism https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YnArVnxHum8&feature=youtu.be
