23.01.2022 Before I start announcing changes; I want to talk about how this whole thing started. This is because I want you, my clients, friends and colleagues to get an insight into the process I've been through so that all of the changes I've made, not only make sense, but you buy in and support them... This process has been about two things; giving my couples the best possible 'client journey' and being the best possible husband and father I can be (more on this bit in a later post).... It was this amazing couple who (not that I knew it at the time) really were the catalyst for everything I've changed in the last couple of months; Laetita & Matt (captured here by the awesome Weekend Ritual Photography I married these two amazing humans on a Thursday night in October of 2018; six weeks or so after they booked me. The short timeframe was a result of them deciding to take advantage of the large number of family members who were already flying in from overseas for Grandpa's 90th birthday. This wedding came at a time where I was finally starting to feel like I was coming into my own as a Celebrant and I was starting to get consistently great reviews and feedback from my ceremonies. With each passing month it seemed like I was getting twice as many bookings as the last. I had my process bedded down and they were working perfectly and as a result I was just knocking it out of the park for my clients. But this process was rigid and while it was perfect for couples that booked me 7-12 months in advance for a big wedding on a Saturday afternoon in the hinterland; it was categorically useless for Laetitia & Matt. Don't get me wrong, I still think I had a good day and delivered a great ceremony, but, as my (for lack of a better word) profile grew, I was starting to get more enquiries for weddings that didn't conform to the 3pm on a Saturday in 10 months time norm. While it took me a little while, eventually, I realised that in order to ensure these clients also get the best possible level of service for me, my processes had to change. And that's how this whole thing started. #joinmeonthejourney #doihavetosayjourney? #Celebrantlife #newprocesses #bignewstocome
23.01.2022 Around this time last year I posted this photo with a caption talking about how my standard fee would change on July 1. I honestly can't believe how different my business is today, just one year on. For starters, I no longer charge a standard fee! I've been quiet on socials for the last couple of months and it's been for a damn good reason. I decided to take a few months out from social media while I took time to evaluate every aspect of my business as I transition from being... a new, growing business to a well established, sustainable business. This process has resulted in a complete overhaul as to how I charge clients, a complete overhaul of my packages and dozens of changes to how I manage my client's journey from first enquiry through to the end of our time together. All of these changes are about putting my couples first, they're changes that I'm proud of and changes that I can hand on heart say are better for my clients. I'll be making a series of announcements over the coming days to outline some of these changes and I'm excited about coming back from my self-imposed social media exile because I've got a lot to update you all on. I would love to say a huge thank you to my colleagues at The Celebrant Society, the Celebrant Institute & WHIZ BANG Weddings - Brisbane Small Weddings who helped me refine and workshop my ideas and processes and a thank you to all of my couples who have been patient with me for the last few months while I was going through this process. Finally a gigantic thank you to my family and friends for putting up with my constant thought bubbles, questions and the time spent picking their brains and Shell, I'm sorry for using a whiteboard marker on literally every glass surface in our new house while I mapped out my ideas, systems and processes - I love you and I don't know how you haven't smothered me in my sleep with a pillow.

21.01.2022 I've teamed up with the amazing WHIZ BANG Weddings - Brisbane Small Weddings to create something different for couples that don't want the big white wedding on a Saturday Afternoon. We're currently running a competition for one deserving couple to experience what we do best. Go and check out the competition page at: https://buff.ly/31WOIBJ to learn more.
21.01.2022 This is one of my favourite ever photos of me in action, or not photos of me I guess. This is a shot of me doing my thing at Crystal & Craig's wedding - If you look closely, you might just be able to see my right shoulder... This might be a surprise but at your wedding the people that I work closest with are your photographers (and your videographers). I'll give them a signal for when I'm about to say something that I think will get a reaction from one of you and I'll also so...metimes (literally) bend over backwards to make sure that I'm out of their shot, or at a minimum hiding in plain sight for your important photos. This photo is the perfect example of me hiding in plain sight where even in a constrained space I was able to work with the awesome team Figtree Wedding Photography to make sure that my clients got an amazing photo of them with their bridal party during their wedding ceremony without me as the celebrant hogging the limelight. 19.01.2022 This weeks #weddingcrushwednesday is the remarkably talented and ridiculously good looking Chris Hutchison Music. I work with a bunch of amazing musos and Chris is one of my favourites. Every time I see his name on a vendors list I know Im going to have a good day! The day this photo was taken at Tangalooma Weddings was one of those good days when we got to spend a whole chuck of the day together for the wedding of Danny + Tiff. ... 17.01.2022 Over the weekend I have been in contact with all of my clients with weddings planned between now and 30 June to discuss any potential impact the the current Covid-19 pandemic might have on their wedding and the contingency plans that I have put in place. At this time I am monitoring the situation closely and for now I am carrying on as usual until we are told otherwise. To be clear at this time I have no plans to cancel or postpone any weddings until we are given specific a...dvice to do so or circumstances dictate other action. I know from these conversations with my Clients and other conversations with my colleagues in the industry that many of us are already facing challenges and difficult decisions. I wanted to let you all know that I am here for you as a resource if you feel the need to talk to somebody. I will be reaching out to the rest of my 2020 clients this week to discuss the contingency plans that I have put in place; however if you have any concerns please don’t hesitate to reach out. I am also exploring the possibility of setting up a debriefing session (subject to relevant advice on the safety of doing so) for my clients and any other couple who have been severely impacted by the current situation to meet with and discuss what they are going through with people that can truly understand the situation you are facing. If you are interested in joining this session (again this is open to all couples, not just my clients) please let me know either in the comments below or send me a DM. Finally, I encourage everyone to stay calm and to work with their vendors as we all face this unprecedented situation. We are all in this together and I am here to support you during this turbulent time.

14.01.2022 What a way to welcome 2020 and my birthday with a fam-bam stroll and coffee at the beach. 2019 was epic, by far my busiest year yet, with so many weddings in so many fun, beautiful and friendly environments (even a few bars!). Thank you to all of the couples that invited me to be a part of their special day in 2019 and I cant wait to start an even busier year ahead! #celebrantlife #beachbaby #2020 #thankyou
12.01.2022 Todays #weddingcrushwednesday is the man, the legend Benjamin Carlyle Celebrant. Hes the one thats responsible for me becoming a celebrant and set the example for how I do things by spending the time getting to know me, caring about me as a person and being invested in my life. I have an endless amount of respect, gratitude and love for this man who has supported, propped me up and guided me from day one. ... Photo: Figtree Wedding Photography

10.01.2022 Look, #valentinesday is categorically a pile of bullshit! But it is a timely reminder. I always tell my clients that a wedding does not make a marriage. A marriage (and all relationships) require work every single day. The idea that you only need to go all out on one day in February and a few other special days each year is laughable to me. Instead, this year valentines day has been a timely reminder to me that I have the worlds best wife in Rachelle and I should do more, mo...re often to tell her and show her that. That is why I've put together this little stash of goodies today. #2018 wasn't the easiest year for us (with renos, growing a fledgling business and having a baby) and so far 2019 hasn't been much better (with illness and trying to sell our townhouse). While sometimes it feels like it's Shell & I against the world, there's no-one (no-one!!!) I'd rather take on the world with than her. This year I'm treating valentines day as demarkation point and a reminder that Shell and I have such a strong marriage because; not only do we work on it every day, we also work on it for each other. While It's not that we have to turn things around or that things are bad, it's a gentle prod for me to never get complacent! Thanks to @thewhitebungalow_ for the beautiful rose as well as my wonderful friends (and people I got to marry) James & Shanna for the bubbles! #bestwifeever #notinthedoghouse #celebrantlife
10.01.2022 Part of my service is to look after the music before, during and after the ceremony. Youre more than welcome to share a playlist youve prepared with me or use the one that I update regularly. Although; having fully discovered Ben Rectors discography this week I feel like the easiest option is just to press shuffle on his Spotify most popular playlist!
10.01.2022 This week's #weddingcrushwednesday is the beautiful chapel at the InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort The amazing Andy at Evernew Studio captured this "We Do!" moment for Matt & Jac perfectly and I can't wait to get back there this weekend to marry Michelle & Brett! #brisbanecelebrant #wedo #nothingbutglass
09.01.2022 I know its a Tuesday but @shellwillington and I just had to celebrate so many gigantic changes and massive achievements. So Im sorry for being quiet on socials recently but weve been hectic AF here at home base. Weve sold a house, weve bought a house, Shell was appointed to a promotion in her dream job, we celebrated two birthdays, an anniversary and Mothers Day and in the middle of all of that I had the pleasure of marrying some amazing humans this autumn wedding sea...son. Oh and I also overhauled my packages, structure, pricing, workflows and just about everything else to deliver a better service to my clients. All changes that Im super proud of as I continue to grow my business. But we couldnt have done all of this by ourselves. Thank you to everyone who has helped us and been by our side over the last little period. Whether it be endless help babysitting, help moving and styling, giving unofficial valuations, being our family tradie (@darrylr Im looking at you) or just being a shoulder for us to vent to so many people helped. But a special thanks goes to a couple of people that we couldnt have done it without @matt_tracy, @jacqui.tracy, @annazoe90 & @alburke90. Cant wait to tackle FY19/20 with you all and Im so excited for all of the amazing weddings I have coming up! #bestwifeever #celebrantlife #timeforacheeseplatter #cheers #wesoldourhouse #weboughtahouse #hasitbeenthatlong
09.01.2022 Im lucky enough to get to a lot of Rural areas and particularly wineries for my work. Today Im in Stanthorpe and Im blown away by just how extensive the impact of the recent fires has been right on the back of a severe drought. Luckily @hiddencreekwine didnt lose any of their vines or buildings thanks to the rural fire service. ... Hidden creek are donating $5 from every bottle sold to the Qld Rural Fire Service so go and check them out. What Ive heard time and time again today is that what this region needs more than money and water is visitors. If youve been thinking about a weekend away, please come and check out this amazing region.
08.01.2022 Absolutely devastated to wake up this morning to the news that this very special place where Rachelle and I were married a few years ago has been destroyed by fire. Im sending all of my love to the Byron Bay weddings team, the vendors involved and most importantly the couples affected. I know from my own experience that the team is miraculous in the face of adversity and Im sure theyll pull through. Finally, to echo the below post, if youre affected by this fire please be patient with the team as they work to enact contingency plans and wait for them to contact you in due course.

07.01.2022 The power of this simple question was just driven home to me when I met with Ashleigh & Sonny to replan their wedding ceremony that was originally scheduled for Binna Burra Lodge in 5 weeks time. While they are in fact ok (and amazingly have everything under control) it is always important to remember that we dont know whats going on with our clients, friends and family members unless we ask. If you need help talk to a friend or family member or contact lifeline on 13 11 ...14 or beyond blue on 1300 22 4636. #RUOK
07.01.2022 One thing I love about doing weddings at wineries is bringing home some samples to share with my beautiful wife @shellwillington at the end of a massive weekend. 06.01.2022 This is Steven Dubner; he is someone I greatly admire and he is another inspiration for the changes to my business. You may not know who Steven is, but you have likely heard of the book he wrote with Stephen Levitt - Freakonomics. After realising that I had to overhaul my processes to be more flexible; while listening to an episode of the freakonomics podcast about supply and demand I realised that my fixed price approach was flawed. I must admit that this is a complete back...flip on everything I have done up to this point. I used to genuinely believe that the fairest approach when it came to billing clients was to have a fixed price with an additional travel charge, however, while this was equal, I came to realise that it wasn't fair. There's an old saying that the average means nothing to the individual (for example how many families have 2.6 children?) and my fixed price and fixed package was geared towards what to date had been my average wedding - a Saturday afternoon in the peak seasons in a hinterland location. I'll leave the semantics of the supply and demand, price signalling and economic cost arguments for another day and another platform, but for now, as the enquiries that didn't fit the mould of my average wedding rolled in (the subject of my last post), I realised in the spirit of what Steven talks about I had to throw out my fixed fee approach and move to a variable price structure that reflects all enquires that dont always fit the mould of my average wedding. 04.01.2022 Getting married is a serious thing, but that doesn't mean the whole ceremony has to be. The minimum requirement for (the majority) of legal weddings are surprisingly few; two forms, five sentences and three certificates. It's what we, as celebrants and couples, create around these five sentences that give the meaning to a wedding ceremony and make it special. Shannon & Josh's brief was simple "include as many puns as possible", so I did. I put ten terrible dad jokes on a card... to be read throughout the wedding and handed that card to them during the ceremony. This was one of the little moments that left a big impression on their guests. Even now, months later, Josh told me that this little touch still brings a smile whenever they talk about their wedding. If you want to know more about Shannon & Josh's day, you can see the full story in my instagram highlights. Also a super shout-out to Ivy + Birch Co. Photography for the capturing the moment in this beautiful photo! #brisbanecelebrant #nowbooking2020 #2019bookingupfast #creatingmeaning #2019wedding #2020wedding
