25.01.2022 Some little dogs act in every way as though they where the size of a mastiff; Wally & Coco definitely fall right in the middle of that category; playful, cuddly & sweet at home then full on when they encounter another dog while out walking. Plus they are both super smart; opening the refuge required me to leave Joondalup about 0430 so first couple of mornings they where fast asleep, missing out on breakfast. Then those smart dogs took it in turns to sleep beside my bed; when I got up the one on duty went racing down the hall barking like mad so they got breakfast; they kept this up during my whole stay.

11.01.2022 With out doubt all pet sits are different because, like people, all animals are their own creature with habits, mannerisms & traits that separate them from their own breed. Then you take into account different species which opens up a whole new spread of options, like my last assignment which was 2 cats, a bird & a dog. Having previously owned 2 Siamese I am conversant with natures law that you are master to a dog but servant to a cat, these 2 clearly knew that law. Gus was s...olely focused on food & vocal until he got some, but I learnt very early on that if I put out both meals & he ate them both. Stella just made lots of noise when she came in to find her food gone; she also made lots of noise most other times. Especially when she was trying to get into the bedroom to have a cuddle & sleep on the bed while Meme was ‘guarding’ the door; I think that was more devilment from Meme. What a character that Meme; first up she didn't want anything to do with me but soon realized that this ‘new human’ in the house controlled her food, so we became pals. Walking was a different story, Meme had definite ideas about where & how far she wanted to go; upon reaching that point if you didn't obey instructions four brakes where applied until you got the message. The bird just observed all these antics & most of the time carried on a melodious chatter. So another great experience with many happy memories. See more

09.01.2022 My current assignment is totally different from my usual run of largish dogs that sometimes can be quite challenging. Moet is a sweet little thing that like to cuddle up & sleep on the bed but has to be lifted up, the cats have quite separate charactors, one sleeping under the bed & the other who knows. But a very enjoyable experience.

07.01.2022 Wilder was a recent companion, really lovely dog but a bit naughty. For example, he did not tell me that he was not allowed on the couch, or that he got bored watching the cricket, or that he prefered to sleep on my bed not his bed, but he was very cuddly & in winter would make a great hot water bottle. His only other vice was a bad reputation for chasing ducks or anything that might remotely resemble a duck. But as I am sure he would be the first to point out, nobody is perfect - as long as your good point exceed the bad & he was as clear winner in that count.

06.01.2022 Toby was a first for me & I have to admit that I just did not know quite what to expect, for Toby is blind & starting to develop some hearing issues. However, I need not have been worried as Toby was an excellent teacher; soon getting me organized into his routine. On his walk he did not want me steering him round trees preferring head or should I say nose on contact. Some of those impacts make me wince, but Toby did not seem to bother. What a great experience with such a little champion.

01.01.2022 To whom it may concern Ray Sandon house/pet sat for us for a week over Christmas last year and was highly recommended by a number of friends at the Dogs’ Refuge Home. Ray was a pleasure to deal with. He made time to visit us and meet our dog Toby several weeks prior to the house sit, to ensure we were all comfortable with the arrangements. ... Ray kept us well informed with the occasional text message and photo whilst we were away, which I really appreciated. When we returned, the house was absolutely spotless and everything was in perfect order.
