17.01.2022 #Earlylearning@home supporting childrens continued learning and development While all Queensland families can send their children to early childhood education and care services, some may choose to keep their children at home due to COVID-19 concerns. The Queensland Government is committed to ensuring all childrens early learning and development continues during this time. Earlylearning@home provides a range of fun and interesting activities, resources and advice to help ...families nurture their childs development and wellbeing while they are at home. One of the most important things parents/carers can do to support their young child during the COVID-19 pandemic is to play, talk and share time together. Earlylearning@home includes a range of ideas, tips, websites and apps to help families stay healthy, safe and connected. Families can complete all activities in the home using materials they may have on hand or can access via the internet. There are specific activities for kindergarten-aged children focused on key areas for learning and development including: Imagination Farm animals Counting Creative play Earlylearning@home also includes dedicated resources for 0 to 3 year olds. The department will regularly add to these resources as we work together with the early childhood sector to support families during the COVID-19 pandemic. All Queensland early childhood service providers are encouraged to share the availability of these resources with families of enrolled children who are currently staying home See more

15.01.2022 You know you are receiving the best care for your children and families here at Petit Port Douglas .... RE: COVID-19 Response: Health questionnaires for new families, staff and visitors... Increased vigilance around hand hygiene and education around the importance of hygiene practices Increased hygiene provisions upon entering the centre and especially around the Ipads provided to sing in and out Cancellation of excursions and incursions to minimise the risk of exposure Exclusion of those members of the community considered a risk (due to travel overseas or presentation of symptoms) Deep sanitisation cleans performed by professionals once a week in addition to our current and ongoing cleaning contracts and measures 1.5m social distancing in communal/high traffic areas such as the reception and foyer areas. We Require that only one adult per family enters the centre to drop off and collect children Have open communication with families to support the service in staggering drop off and pick up times if the Centre Director requests this at peak times Disposable gloves will be available for use next to the Ipads however the use of these should not replace the use of hand sanitiser. Temperature check all children and staff members upon arrival and throughout the day (see below temperature checking process) Continues support for families to stay informed and access items on Stimulus Packages We are all in this Together

15.01.2022 "Play is a context for learning; it allows for the expression of personality and uniqueness, enhances dispositions such as curiosity and creativity, enables children to make connections between previous experiences and new learning, assists children to develop relationships and concepts, and stimulates a sense of well-being." (EYLF, page 9)

15.01.2022 Simple ways to bring a smile to all our families We truly are in this together! Stay positive and keep smiling

15.01.2022 We are so proud! The Petit team is now fully trained in managing infection control COVID-19. Fantastic effort to go above and beyond to keep our children, families and staff health, safety and well-being a priority!

15.01.2022 Today, we introduced the children to chalk painting. Exploring different types of painting and drawing experiences are very good for young ones in the room as when they draw or paint, they connect their body parts and portray emotions together. It provides the perfect opportunity for them to learn new concepts such as textural difference, shapes and colours in a deliberate way. This also helps children perform fundamental visual analysis through what they created.

04.01.2022 This week in our Baby Boulevard room the children are becoming interested in farm animals. So we are starting to create a farm yard set up for them to explore. Great way to help their language development through play. We have also redesigned the environment to provide a calm and natural feel to the room. The children have loved their new group time area. An area they can explore as a group or take some time to enjoy a moment of solitude with a book or puzzle.

03.01.2022 Start the conversation about Coronavirus with your kids! Watch the departments video for tips on how to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Please remember, we will get through this together!

03.01.2022 loose parts are essentially open-ended materials that can be used in a variety of way. It creates opportunity for children to engage their natural creativity and inventiveness. By incorporating loose parts into the environment, it makes the environment more stimulating and engaging. The theory of Loose Parts was developed by an architect named Simon Nicholson in the 1970s. Link to theorist: Reggio Emilia. Loris Malaguzzi was the founder of Reggios educational philosophy.

03.01.2022 With sensory play, theres always much more going on than meets the eye. Sensory activities, in addition to being fun and interesting for babies and young children, encourage children to explore and investigate. Furthermore, these activities support children to use the scientific method of observing, forming a hypothesis, experimenting and making conclusions. Sensory activities also allow children to refine their thresholds for different sensory information, helping their brain to create stronger connections to sensory information and learn which are useful and which can be filtered out
