24.01.2022 Following my post on PLAY with your 4 legged friend, I thought it was appropriate to touch on warming up and exercises you can do to help at the start of your walks. Many people lead very busy lives and the weekday walks are short and sweet. This changes at weekends and the expectations are that your pets can go for miles whilst you cycle the foreshore or run in the forest. Just like us your animals muscles need care and attention so that they don't get injuries or over-exerc...ise. Dogs growth plates (depending on breed) fuse between 9-16 months. Up until this point they are very vulnerable to over-exercising and weakening their joints for the future. The same with horses...Just look at some TBs that have raced at age 2...their bodies feel it by the time they are 10 years old. Asking for advice on exercising your young animals is the best thing you can do for them. For dogs and horses there are so many activities and games you can do to strengthen them physically and mentally. I'd love to show you some! https://www.petmd.com//general-hea/growth-dogs-what-expect

22.01.2022 Do you use essential oils? Please use with care around animals.. Thanks Hayley Mackay Dog Poisoned by the Diffuser... Saturday night I got home late and my dog didn't recognize me. Being a nanny I thought I woke him up and he was having a night terror. Sunday, he was still acting weird. I realized that I had been running my new diffuser and decided to turn it off. Sunday afternoon, he was feeling better. Today at work, my dog sitter said that he wouldn't come out from under the bed. It was very odd as he is a happy dog. I came from work early and again, he was very confused about who I was. So I took him to emergency vet. It turns out that the tea tree oil I was using in the diffuser is toxic for dogs. Thankfully the test showed that his liver was ok but we weren't out of the woods yet. He was given fluids under his skin to get the toxins out. The vet and the poison control are saying that they see these cases often now that the popularity of essential oil is growing. Please make sure that the essential oils you are burning are not toxic for your pets. Here is a list of essential oils not to use if you have a dog at home Anise (Pimpinella anisum) Birch (Betula) Bitter Almond (Prunus dulcis) Boldo (Peumus boldus) Calamus (Acorus calamus) Camphor (Cinnamomum camphora) Cassia (Cassia fistula) Chenopodium (Chenopodium album) Cloves (Syzygium aromaticum) Garlic (Allium sativum) Goosefoot (Chenopodium murale) Horseradish (Armoracia rusticana) Hyssop (Hyssopus sp. with the exception of Decumbens) Juniper (Juniperus sp. with the exception of Juniper Berry) Mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) Mustard (Brassica juncea) Oregano (Origanum vulgare) Pennyroyal (Mentha pulegium) Red or White Thyme Rue (Ruta graveolens) Santolina (Santolina chamaecyparissus) Sassafras (Sassafras albidum) Savory (Satureja) Tansy (Tanacetum vulgare) Tea Tree Oil (Melaleuca alternifolia) Terebinth (Pistacia palaestina) Thuja (Thuja occidentalis) Wintergreen (Gaultheria procumbens) Wormwood (Artemisia absinthium) Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) Please share this story as it may save someones precious furry family member!

12.01.2022 This picture shows the vascular system of the horses foot. A very complex part of the anatomy. There is a lot of research out there on asymmetries in the foot balance and musculoskeletal issues. Many horses don't have symmetrical hooves, they may have high/low heels, long/short toes, flared out laterally or medially. These all have a huge impact on the above joints and muscles and vice versa. Food for thought...

12.01.2022 An easy article for a weekend read. Perfect for those of you who have a few hours spare to spend time with your 4 legged companion... Play is important not just for your dogs mental health but it also builds a fantastic musculosketal foundation and works on that key skill of balance. Have a read and let me know what you think. https://www.companionanimalpsychology.com//why-do-dogs-pla

03.01.2022 Agility is an incredible way of bonding with your dog and a great training exercise. It doesn't come without it's risks... Have a look at my previous post about warming up and strengthening exercises. Any questions ask away.
