12.02.2022 What have we been up to this week in the classroom? The Prep children read the story 'The Kissing Hand' by Audrey Penn. The children learnt a very old secret from Mamma Raccoon. It's called the kissing hand. Mamma Raccoon kissed the middle of little Chester's hand before he went to school. Whenever Chester needed to feel his grownup's love he would remember the kiss he held in his hand. The children placed kisses (hearts) on their individually outlined hands to feel re...assurance during their first day. The preps also did their first painting, which is displayed in the Common Area. We are so proud of the wonderful work they have done! #prepstudents #firstdayofschool

30.01.2022 We made a flying start to our weekly swimming lessons today! We love the enthusiasm and adventurous spirit! A great beginning to a busy and colourful term. #schoolsport #ourschoolrules #learntoswim

25.01.2022 LOCKDOWN DRILL The safety of your child and all children in our school as well as the safety of the school staff is very important to us. In order to maintain a safe environment for our children to learn, it is necessary that we practice our emergency and crisis response plans by having drills designed to exercise our procedures. The school has held a practice lockdown drill today. The school periodically throughout each school year will enact this process. This type of... drill will secure the school building and safely shelter all students, staff and visitors inside the building. The purpose of this drill is to keep the students safe from any danger outside or inside the building. During a lockdown drill all of the perimeter doors to the school building will be locked and will remain locked until the danger or issue outside or inside the building is removed. To enable everyone to remain safe, no one will be allowed to enter the building or leave the building until the drill is completed. The staff have explained to students the process and also debriefed them at the end. See more

21.01.2022 Week 3 Mind Up Focus - Sharpening Senses What is it? Sharpening Senses means to become better at noticing things. How? Being mindful about what you are doing of the things ... around you. To become better at noticing things means thinking about and paying attention to what your senses are able to tell you. Practice seeing things you might not usually notice like colours or patterns; listening for instruments in music you might hear; touch different textures, smell flowers or notice the smells around you; taste something new. Conclusion Sharpening your senses means to be mindful of what you can see, hear, touch, taste and smell. See more

20.01.2022 ODD SOCK DAY today. This is a tradition at Petrie Terrace State School and is in commemoration of a past student who died in a road accident. Maeve Coughlan was a gifted, high spirited and creative child who had a vivid imagination. We believe she was the epitome of the Petrie Terrace Child who cares about others and enjoys childhood to its fullest and is encouraged to be the 'best You that you can be'. Maeve referred to Petrie Terrace School as 'Bumble Town' hence the nami...ng of Bumble Town Hall in her honour. In the hall, you may have noticed there are some photos of Maeve and her sister Tara, also a past student of PTSS. There is also a painting of a cat wearing odd socks. This was painted by one of our past teachers, Vicki Bradbury and was inspired by Maeve and her love of cats as well as her wearing of odd socks. Have you ever noticed a black cat shadow on Bumble Town Hall? Maeve usually wore odd socks and at times, odd shoes! In remembrance of her, we encourage the wearing of odd socks on or around the anniversary of her passing each year and acknowledge the special child in all of us. More information about Maeve and her family can be found on a website titled Planet Creature. Here are our student's odd socks today!

19.01.2022 Band rehearsal changes from next week. On Thursday in Week 9 and 10, Petrie Terrace's band students will have the opportunity to combine into one large ensemble! Rehearsal for these two weeks will be held in the larger space of upper C Block before school from 7:45am. The reason for the combined rehearsals is to prepare for a student only music assembly on Friday week 10 where the band will play "The Forge of Vulcan" (by Tim Fisher). This exciting event will be the debut perf...ormance for students who have just started in the program this year! Parents/Carers should email Mr Hunter if their child in the band program is unable to attend.

18.01.2022 Week 3 Behaviour Focus - Respect for Others What does this rule mean? Respect for Others is being kind to others, being thoughtful and caring of other people. Others could be your friends and classmates, your Teachers, family or even people you dont know. Respect for Others is not talking over the top of someone, give your attention to the person who is speaking.... Respect for Others is being kind with words and the things you do (actions) hold the door open for someone say hello or smile share accept others even if you might disagree about things CONCLUSION Respect for Others is important so that you and others feel safe, happy and trusted. 17.01.2022 It was a super successful working bee on the weekend in our little town. We planted and painted with plenty of happy helpers. This was all achieved without having to purchase any plants. Thank you to our families who generously donated plants from their gardens. We purchased native bamboo with the Woolworth's Landcare Grant. Brisbane City Council provided 86 new little native plants as part of the annual free plants Arbor Day celebrations. Some great behind the scenes pl...anning by parent volunteer Stephanie and our awesome School's Officer Brad, seriously hardworking volunteers on the day and look what was achieved! A new native bamboo garden with an automatic watering system near the loose parts pit on the oval, subtropical gardens around the entry and school buildings and a fresh coat of blue paint near the entry. Thank you to everyone involved. See more

16.01.2022 This week the children have been abuzz with our annual THINKSPORTS event. It was so lovely to see the gleam in their eyes and their beaming smiles as they talked about the planned projects and collection of special bits and pieces to make the most magnificent things!! After all the tinkering and fiddling, measuring and gluing the creations were ready to view today during what we call the Tournament Day. The day began with Viewing and Voting, followed by Team Challenges in Pee...r Support Groups. Teams worked together to solve problems involving thinking and co-operation. There was a Nature Treasure Hunt, a Tick Tock Timed Task Challenge and a Balloon Cup Race! The day ended with a Trivial Pursuit style quiz made up of questions from the teachers with links to specific year level curriculum areas and other Petrie Terrace Trivia. Awards were presented to the winning house team as well as individual and group winners in each display area. Well done to all children who approached the event with a Growth Mindset, enthusiasm and a great attitude towards helping each other and Teamwork. See more
