25.01.2022 We were already stoked with the outcome of our new banner, but these ‘before and after’ photos really highlight the improvement. Now we’re not just stoked.... we are REALLY STOKED!
24.01.2022 It is no secret that we are awfully passionate about our Bearded Dragons. Every year is exciting and every year we continue to learn. As per usual, our partnership with the incredible team at, Dragons Den Adelaide, is proving successful. This success can be credited to high level husbandry. The hardest (most important) work is done in the first 4 weeks. I am forever grateful for the hours, passion and professionalism, The Den, puts into these critters. It is a privilege to b...e able to bounce ideas, aid the the development of rearing approaches, and then see them put into practise. I like to think, every season is a step up. The condition of our beardies, speaks for itself. Exposure to high grade T5 UVB lighting. The latest technologies in heat emitters. Targeted feeding of insects & vegetables. It will still be several weeks before you find these beauties in store but as you can see, their bellies are growing, their colours are popping and sheds are starting. We hope you enjoy the progress pictures.
24.01.2022 SNAKES (or maybe a lizard) ON A PLANE. If you've ever boarded a domestic Qantas flight, there's a real good chance you've experienced this unknowingly. If that's not your cup of tea, don't stress. They're safe and secured, probably having a nap. We receive daily messages regarding interstate purchases of reptiles. A service that has suffered interruptions and hurdles due to limited flights and boarder restrictions. We are happy to let our interstate customers in QLD and NSW... know, we are now able to offer this service again into their major and regional airports. We take the interstate transport of our livestock seriously. This means, import/ export/ movement advices, are completed and approved by the required government departments. That we only use Qantas Air Freight to ensure the shortest amount of travel time possible. That we only use high quality (both strong and breathable) calico bags; and last but least, that transparent communication is a must. We determine the use of either plastic or wooden crates, depending on the animal in question and the expected temperature in the arriving destination. For more information, please reach out.
24.01.2022 FLASHBACK PHOTO TO 2013 A nice find in the photo achieves this morning and the exact motivation (kick in the butt) we needed to finally put a plan of action into place to replace our main front shop banner (it looks a lot brighter in this photo - its rather faded 7 years on). Keep your eyes peeled when driving down Prospect Road in the coming weeks.
24.01.2022 Its a beautiful day! We spent some time this morning by our front pond with our pup, Lexi. Lexi, is a 12 year old Australian Terrier X Jack Russel. She is very protective of our yard and quite fond of our (her) elephant statue. Its important to make time for your pets. They miss you when youre at work or out. Thats why we welcome you to bring your pets along with you when visiting our store. What have you and your pets been up to this morning?
23.01.2022 A bit of a sad one for a Saturday night... Buddy, the neighbour and friend to our good friend, Mark, has run into some urgent medical trouble. While weve never met, Buddy, personally, our own doggo, Lexi, has had several play dates. By all accounts, Buddy, is a good dog. Unfortunately to no fault of his own, Buddy has been repeatedly shot by a coward with an Air Rifle. The matter has been reported accordingly.... Buddys, family have so far spent over $8000 on vet bills, but there are still 6 slugs left in him which have to be monitored closely, as repeated surgery is a high risk with such an old pup. Buddys story was on Channel 7 News tonight at 6:00pm, did you catch it? There is a Go Fund Me page to help buddy survive this gut wrenching ordeal... if you are in position to help, please show Buddy some love! We will be sending 100 dollarydoos, Buddys way! Thanks friends. GO FUND ME: https://gf.me/u/x43kni
23.01.2022 Sunday nights are for Netflix (or Disney) and Chill? Who picks the movie in your household? For one of our customers, its the lovely Mrs Kenobi, pictured here.
23.01.2022 Not just blue but UV too! Most lizards have a pink tongue, but the blue hue of Australias famous blue-tongue lizards likely evolved as a protection against pre...dators. The base of their tongue is particularly bright under UV light which birds can see clearly. The lizard relies on camouflage to avoid hawks and other predators. When that fails, the lizards poke out their tongues as far as possible distracting the birds with a flash of bright blue and ultraviolet tongues. And yes, you would see the bright tongue under disco lights! Blue tongue lizards have a highly conspicuous tongue, but unlike many other kinds of lizards, its a big tonguethe surface area is large. When blue tongues do a full tongue display, the mouth is opened widely and the tongue is flattened and expanded. At the same time, they may hiss and puff-up their body for maximum effect. This behaviour, in combination with a highly conspicuous tongue, can be quite intimidating for anyone that has got too close to a wild bluey, explains Ass. Professor Martin Whiting from Macquarie University. Happy #WorldLizardDay!!

19.01.2022 We’ve got the warm and fuzzies We experienced an in store air-pump malfunction earlier on. While we wait for our replacement part to turn up to repair our current unit, we were able to source a replacement unit from a fellow independent. A big thanks to the team at Aggies Aquariums for the hook up, and to Aqua One Australia for pointing us in the right direction. I’ve always felt strongly that local businesses thrive when local businesses support each other. ... I spotted some sensational live coral in their Pooraka store today, while I was collecting the O2 Plus 12000. I encourage my marine customers to go take a look! You won’t be disappointed.
18.01.2022 Spot the gecko Couldn’t be happier with this new in-store display. Double thumbs up to Exo Terra for the terrarium and Bioscape for the fit-out.
18.01.2022 Flashback to Summer, when we spent the days hanging by the water and taking a dip. Its a chilly one this morning but you can find us in store from 10am till 4pm. We cant wait to see you all
17.01.2022 Facebook wasn’t impressed with uploading this as a story (too long) so we decided to post it up here instead. A few slight mistakes (the pressure of talking on film) but the general gist is there. Consider this a very quick and basic crash course in thermostats.
17.01.2022 Its been a little while since weve had frogs in store We couldnt be more stoked on these adult Green Tree Frogs if we tried. There is 8 in total, and boy oh boy, are they big and healthy.
17.01.2022 Another great photo taken in store today. Is that a real beard or extensions? Our baby beardies just keep on growing.
17.01.2022 An update for all those asking how the Buddy Situation is going. We were lucky enough to see the Buds in store Tuesday. In good news, he was in fine form after a vet visit but still has a long road of recovery ahead. Buddy has a true champion spirit - a little fighter Today a charge has been laid against the perpetrator, heres hoping the result is just ... GO FUND ME: https://gf.me/u/x43kni
17.01.2022 Just a boy and some Beardies, my latest favourite photo. Pets are so important. Theyre more often then not our first true connection with nature. Caring about the environment and all that goes with it, often starts at home. Loving the animals we welcome into our families, drives a passion to keep those in the wild safe. The changes in the approach to keeping pets is moving forward, a change I welcome. Husbandry should be an attempt to replicate the wild but with the security and certainty of captivity. The best of both worlds. Visit us in store and Ill happily chew your ear off about what that means and entitles. - Amy
16.01.2022 Wed like to think its reasonably clear when entering our store, that we tend to get a little carried away when ordering decorative ornaments. Including hides, vines and plants. This week has been no exception. With over 40 new designs of ornaments (suited for aquatic, reptile and mantelpieces) arriving in store. PLUS full stocks on over 15 types of decorative vine (awesome for frogs and reptiles). We are chipping away at unpacking our pallets... the gaps in our displays will be vanishing very soon. Heres a quick peek of what weve got out to the shelves so far.
16.01.2022 Another day, another quick stroll along, Prospect Road, to slam dunk some junk. If you havent figured it out yet, caring for pets is often the kick start to driving a passion for caring about wildlife and the environment as a whole. The little fury, feathery or scaly friends that you welcomed into your family, need you to do your part to keep their extended family safe in their natural habitats. The implications animals (even your domestic cat or dog) suffer as a result of l...ittering is unreal. Be part of the solution - not the pollution, and put your rubbish in the bin (bonus points for the correct bin i.e. organic, general, recycle). Even take it one step further and pick up the rubbish you see and put that in the bin too. Every litter bit hurts, but every litter bit picked up helps. Your pets will thank you on behalf of their relatives for doing your part to be greener. Keep your eyes peeled on our socials as we begin to introduce further measures to reduce soft plastics in store
15.01.2022 Weve had a bunch of new products arrive in store this week. Including our bedding tunnels for cats. We wanted to make sure the product was up to scratch by having our own cats test them out first. Its safe to say, they approved!
15.01.2022 Start your Monday morning the right way, with a dose of gecko cuteness. This little fella (Barking Gecko - Underwoodisaurus milii) is experiencing his first shed. We have a soft spot for these reptiles, as just like us they are South Aussie locals Not all heroes wear capes, some wear masks.
15.01.2022 Spare time is for hanging out with your friends, family but dare we say most importantly.... your pets (or in this case, a little recuse) This game is over. Why would I want to play chasey when I can eat this bug? - Magpie Jerry
14.01.2022 Something a little bit special this week. Wed be lying if we told you the perks of the job wasnt getting to work with (even if only temporarily) amazing animals like this, Axanthic Black-Headed Python This young male, was very photogenic. Camera shy, he was not. We hope you enjoy the photos.

13.01.2022 Its our favourite time of year again Available super soon. Enquires welcome.
11.01.2022 We love a good update! This photo of "Dezzi" the Central Bearded Dragon, was sent through to us during the week. Dezi, will be turning one in November. Dezi, is a great example of colour saturation. Almost entirely vibrant yellow. When Dezi, was purchased, I was asked to select a dragon I believed would be most "yellow" as an adult. At the time, Dezi was approx. 20cm in total length (from his snout to the very tip of his tail). He was a normal scale dragon, all his toe nails are black (not hypo), and he was predominately grey to washed out tan, in colour. I selected him, as he showed a 5mm line of citrus yellow to side of each ear. Its fair to say, Dezi turned out more "yellow" than I could have ever hoped for .
11.01.2022 POWER OUTAGE Our physical store IS OPEN but please note we are experiencing a power outage. As a result, our phone lines and eftpos are down. Power is expected to be returned around 12:15pm today. We thank you for your understanding and apologise for the inconvenience.

To receive the discount simply show our staff this post when at the check out and they will apply the saving for you. Bobby had no complaints with this promo and is happily enjoying his KONG Knot Bear.
11.01.2022 We know its a little cheeky, maybe even mean to share photos of Bearded Dragons that arent for sale, but we couldnt resist! These little guys are our only two holdbacks for 2020 and were pretty stoked with their current progress. Their colours are really starting to pop. Any guesses on what their morphs are?
11.01.2022 A quick photo of one of our many fluffy, beautiful, independent, do not mess with me, but still very lovely, customers, enjoying their latest in-store purchase. Did you know we stock a large range of KONG toys? To suit both cats and dogs a like.

07.01.2022 The highlight of our quick beach clean up this weekend, was definitely spotting this guy. It doesnt matter how many Shinglebacks (Tiliqua Rugosa) also lovingly referred to as Sleepys, that we get to work with in store, seeing one out and about in its natural habitat is always very, VERY, cool. We often talk about keeping the environment (especially beaches) clean to protect our wildlife. After all, we wouldnt set-up a terrarium and throw an empty chip packet or cigarette butt in it, for aesthetics or enrichment. We cant gift our wildlife element (heating, UVB etc.) control, like we do our pets. But we can keep their homes clean and intact by always taking our rubbish home with us. To reuse, recycle or dispose of, correctly.
06.01.2022 Weve got a few cheeky surprises up our sleeve for next month, with a number of new reptiles on their way to us. Including a few of the more unusual species. While were not ready to let you in on what all of them are, we are prepared to share this photo... The first 3 people who are able to guess correctly what species this photo is of, will win a small but groovy reptile related prize to be collected in store.

05.01.2022 Eclectus Parrots, are high demanding. Their intelligence easily challenges that of a 3 year old human child. They not only learn words but are masters of tone and pitch. If a Macaw is a few feathers too big for you, but your heart is set on being a pirate. This is the bird for you! Enquire within
05.01.2022 Can you spot the dog? We had yet another adorable canine pal in store this morning, who was absolutely smitten (just like us) by our baby bunnies. We welcome all responsible pet owners and their well behaved pet pals into our store.
04.01.2022 Saturday nights are for fun! And a good game certainly ticks that box. ANiMOZ, is a collectible card game of Australian animals, created right here in little olAdelaide. Educational for kids 3+ and strategic for adults. Here in AUS, were sending species to extinction faster than anywhere else on Earth - its time to educate ourselves and change that... all while having fun. ... Were stoked to be able to tell you, you can now purchase your official starter pack in store! By doing so, youll be supporting our native animals, conservation, creatives, small business, and SA locals all in one. Any guesses to what our staff are up to tonight?
04.01.2022 Weve been told not to use the word favourite but we cant help ourselves. The Long-Nosed Water Dragon, is our favourite. Simply for its ironic name. They are rarely found in water but instead in large trees. Sometimes said trees arent even in the presence of water. They are far more arboreal than aquatic. The Long-Nosed Tree Dragon, would make more sense. What do you like most about this species?
04.01.2022 COVID-19 UPDATE ADJUSTED TRADING HOURS FRIDAY 20/11/2020 10:00am - 2:00pm... As an essential business that provides products, your pets need to be happy and healthy. Including but not limited to, food, medications, crucial lighting, treatments and enrichment products. If you prefer not to enter. You can call the store when you arrive, and a staff member will come to you with your order. A friendly reminder that we are not experiencing a shortage of any essential lines, and there is no need for panic or concern in this regard. Crickets, birdseed, frozen foods, dog and cat food, small animal food, reptile food, lighting and enrichment products, are in good numbers.
03.01.2022 All that I forgot to mention my favourite fact... these pythons are exceptional climbers as they are a semi-arboreal species Pythons are a family of nonvenomous snakes. Meaning a bite from a Centralian is not lethal.
01.01.2022 Something a bit exciting happened this afternoon... A little earlier than we thought it would but awesome none the less. Itll be quite a while before these young not quite feathery yet babies make their way to the store, but keep your eyes on our page to see their progress and updates.
