25.01.2022 The gifting puzzle...

25.01.2022 Sun getting in your eyes Happy? Having a crate in the car means that as the weather warms up I can leave Happy in the car with the doors and windows open for airflow. Of course Happy has to have his hat zipped up

23.01.2022 The cheeky Chihuahua (a name I can never spell), is no 12 in my series on breeds and what musculoskeletal conditions are common in your breed. Forewarned is forearmed as they say, or an ounce of prevention is better than pound of cure! In my experience this is so true, even if you dog has an inherited condition such as hip dysplasia, if it is diagnosed early enough we can work together to relieve pain, retain function and improve strength avoiding early surgery, or perhaps av...oiding surgery for life. Anyway, back to our loyal, fun little Chi....Luxating Patella is the most common issue I see, often starts around 4 months of age and your dog may take a little hop, or a skip in one of both hind limbs for a few steps. Also size-related injuries, because of their big personality the Chihauhua will wade into any altercation, and even start a few themselves, their opponent is always bigger in size and weight leading to all sorts of injuries but commonly in the neck, shoulder and back. Humans can also cause back issues in the Chi, by standing on them, or letting them fall off the furniture. IVDD, a serious spinal condition occurs in this breed, sometime inherited and sometimes due to injury. If your little dog starts to hunch their back, cry in pain, refuse to move, or struggle to go to the toilet then you should seek a vet consult immediately. Neck soreness is also size related, please take care how you lead your tiny little companion, it is very easy to jerk their neck an cause muscle strain. Watch out for you dog not wanting to look up at you, having the head tilted to one side, avoiding being petted or leashed. See more

23.01.2022 Spot the Happy Labrador! Enjoying the Spring at Tuggeranong Pines.

21.01.2022 When I am home briefly between clients.

21.01.2022 Do you have an Alpaca or Llama, or know someone who does? Are they lame or stiff or getting slow and grupmy? I really enjoy the challenge of working with 'camelids', a challenge only because their bodies are so different, and I have found my skills do cross over quite well.

21.01.2022 Before the Sure Paws she is trying to hurry to mke up for stiffness and a lack of balance and she avoids the tighter inner circle .

20.01.2022 Canine Bodyworkz Clinic Win! Visited Helen Mosslar's dogs for the first time since she organised the clinic in June. The dogs were much, much better than they usually would be! Woohoo.

19.01.2022 Good Guys for dog prezzies! A remote activated treat dispenser! I can see good and bad in that one

19.01.2022 If your dog has problems in their hind end, they will be overloading their front limbs in compensation. You can relieve this by massaging the shoulder, neck and chest areas.

18.01.2022 After a short session on Sure Paws. She is more fluid, relaxed and even in her gait.

18.01.2022 What are you doing today? I am currently poaching 1.5kg of locally caught white fish and completing tutorials on editing photos. Can you guess why I am poaching fish? Hint, Greg and I rarely eat fish.

18.01.2022 What a wierd morning here in Nowra. 20c with a howling warm wind. I wonder what Canberra has in store for me later today.

18.01.2022 Love the Kelpies milling around, how many are there? I couldn't count.

13.01.2022 Appointments available for horses and dogs in Shoalhaven and surrounds this Sat aug 29th! Ph 0431387787. Book now to put your horse or dog on the trail to better performance and trainability.

13.01.2022 How the Sure Paws session was conducted.

13.01.2022 For my Canberra friends, it's time to hit the coast with your dogs and have some water fun but Remember to provide TICK PREVENTION for your dog, and complete a daily tick scan as well. None of the products are 100% proof against ticks. If your dog does get a paralysis tick then bodywork as soon as possible during their recovery will help enormously.

12.01.2022 #canine xmas gift ideas What's new? What are you buying ? If you make or sell something pop it into the comments too.

12.01.2022 Dashy is feeling so much better after bodywork, a change of diet and a different vet opinion. When I met Dashy 2 weeks ago she could barely walk, her tummy was Enormous! Her owner had been to her vet for no answers except that Dashy was overweight and possibly had Cushings. Her tummy had to be felt to be believed, yes she is overweight but the tummy was not all fat. After doing some quantum healing with Dashy her tummy reduced Immeadiately! Proving to us this was not fat. Th...is visit I was so excited to hear Dashy barking brightly at my arrival and moving more easily to the door. Her expression said it all, and the tummy has reduced even further. We all develop comfortable relationships with our vet and their practice but sometimes, for the sake of our pet we need a second opinion. Pictured, Dashy after my session and then snoring 10 minutes later. See more

12.01.2022 Part 1 of a free series of tips on common issues to look out for in your breed of dog, from a remedial therapy perspective: Golden Retriever Hip and Elbow Dysplasia, as your pup matures they may limp sometimes, or look stiff in one or more legs as they get up. Knee/Stifle conformation leading to Cruciate Ligament issues, your dog may limp on one hind limb during or after exercise. Often this looks worse after a rest following after exercise. Obesity, happens so easily with... those gorgeous eyes, combined with arthritis this leads to significant discomfort and sometimes early euthanasia. For lameness you should see your vet first and often with early intervention, remedial therapy and an exercise program, these problems can be managed without surgery. Therapy aims to increase circulation, reduce pain and reduce the problems caused by the dog loading their other legs and their back. See more

12.01.2022 Anyone have a favorite walk to share with us? This is Budgong Lookout, no dogs with us though due to post fires baiting.

12.01.2022 This is a video I play during the Pet Miracle Canine Bodyworkz clinic. Kind of cute and easy to follow.

11.01.2022 Has your dog had surgery? Post op care and rehabilitation can be critical to the success and longevity of surgical procedures, particularly knee, hip, elbow surgeries. Would you consider it normal for a person to have a knee or hip replacement and Not have skilled rehab afterwards? You need someone skilled in that area such as a physiotherapist or canine rehab specialist to assist you and oversee the rehab of your pet too. I can also help with releasing tightness, compensatory problems, increasing circulation and taping. I am happy to liase wirh your vet and rehab professional.

11.01.2022 Dogs still work alongside our soldiers in war today, as they have for centuries.

11.01.2022 This lovely girl is recovering from Coon Hound Paralysis. There is believed to be a link with CHP and raw chicken however Pippa isn't fed chicken. She is slowly regaining mobility and is expected to fully recover. I am able to help.with red light and massage, Pippa also stood briefly on the Sure Paws pads.

11.01.2022 Happy's breakfast bowl! His dinner bowl looks similiar! No fat labradors here, lol.

10.01.2022 An interesting read about genetics in shelter dogs. I was surprised to learn they found 125 breed origins in shelters across 2 states in the USA. It is so true that in meeting a new dog we usually ask the owner the breed of the dog even if we think it is a mixed breed. I shall have to stop asking that question.

09.01.2022 Thankyou Helen Mosslar for placing your trust in me. Book in now and get your dog off on the right foot for 2020!

09.01.2022 Thankyou everyone, and everypet, for your support during 2020. Wishing you all an enjoyable festive season spent with your pets, and your other family.

09.01.2022 Free running is a terrific tool for improving balance, fitness and proprioception. If you cannot let your dog free run then put them on a long lead and allow them to explore around you. When walking your dog in the suburbs, don't just go along the footpath, go on the grass, up and down the gutter, through the puddles etc.

09.01.2022 The second in my free series on what to look out for in your dog. Poodles are energetic and lively, it seems the smaller the poodle, the more bouncy it is! This can lead to anything from a joint strain to a muscle tear. They can also develop hip or elbow dysplasia, and the toys can also have luxating pattellas. I can help with managing your poodle through all of these conditions, but see your vet first.

08.01.2022 Another in my free series of musculoskeletal conditions that might affect your Spaniel. There are a few types of spaniels and problems can vary however hip dysplasia is a common threat to all, luxating patellas in the smaller spaniels and cruciate injuries in the more energetic spaniels. Obesity is a big issue, especially for aging dogs whose arthitic joints don't cope with the extra weight. I can help you with all of these but it is best to see your vet first if your dog is limping.

07.01.2022 No matter what your politics, this is a great step forward!

07.01.2022 As the weather warms up and more of us are taking longer walks with our dogs, you my start to notice some changes that could be related to heart disease. Do you know what to look out for? Link to a great article in the comments.

06.01.2022 Cats love Sure Paws too! I caught Smudge just as he got off

06.01.2022 Xmas treat fail

05.01.2022 I am particularly interested in the yawn at the end. Yesterday I visited Alyssa from Canine Compass dog training, I worked on China, Penny and Charlie. 2 years ago Happy spent 2 weeks in board and train with these dogs, he clearly remembered their smells today and sniffed me for about 3 minutes then looked away and yawned. Any ideas why?

05.01.2022 A series of videos showing the before, during and after a 3 minute session on the Sure Paws Canine Stability system which has the ability to relax fascia and muscles, release joint tension and relax the mind. This is before.

04.01.2022 Greg and I havebeen to a Mtn and Ocean collection with these guys. Both fabulous. I see they also have a Dog collection. Should be worth watching.

04.01.2022 Continuing my series on the musculoskeletal issues you need to be aware of in your breed. Search the page for your breed, and if they are not here drop me a comment. These guys in general are cute, friendly and active but there is a Huge variation in crosses so check to find out exactly what your puppy is crossed with. There is only one breed of poodle, but it comes in 3 sizes! Did you know there are 23! breeds of spaniel so if you buy a Spoodle, for example, make sure you f...ind out which sized poodle and which type of spaniel have been crossed. Why is this important? Because, contrary to popular thinking, your puppy could inherit All of the genetic issues of both breeds, or some of either of the breeds, or none at all. Just because your puppy is crossbred doesn't mean it is stronger or healthier than a purebred. Ideally, the parents of your puppy should have been screened for any genetic issues common to their breed, things such as hip and elbow dysplasia. In my experience as a practitioner, I have found luxating patellas are very common with the smaller versions, and hip dysplasia in the larger types. They are generally quite exuberant and want to join in any play activities so they can also be prone to sore back, neck and shoulders. Keep an eye out for your dog hopping or limping regularly, getting 'tired' on walks, struggling up stairs or being slow to get up off the floor. Being lively and willing these guys often don't appear lame but they will lose enthusiasm which is a sign of discomfort. Cocker Spaniels are also prone to IVDD, a serious spinal condition which is a medical emergency, look out for your dog becoming hunched, crying when touched, struggles to toilet or jump up, or dragging their hind feet. 03.01.2022 I met this gorgeous girl in the Nth Nowra vet clinic last weekend. She is very friendly and loved being stroked. So beautiful.
