25.01.2022 So you can find out where your potential dog, cat, puppy or kitten comes from the Victorian Government has introduced the Pet Exchange Register. From 1 July 2019, you can use this online database to trace puppies, kittens, dogs or cats advertised for sale or rehoming with a unique source number. The PER is a key initiative from the Domestic Animals (Puppy Farms and Pet Shops) Amendment Act 2017 that will improve traceability of dogs and cats in Victoria. From 1 July 2019, it will also be an offence to advertise a dog, cat, puppy or kitten for sale or give away unless the advertisement includes the animals microchip number and the source number generated by the PER. While it can be a great way to connect, Zoos Victoria suggest if you want to encourage, provide shelter for and feed wild birds the best thing to do is plant the right native flora. Small birds like Scrub Rens, Fairy Wrens and Thornbills like to shelter in prickly dense shrubs. Whereas bigger birds like Magpies, Owls, Tawny Frogmouths and Parrots need tall trees for their shelter.

12.01.2022 Tune in to Sunrise tomorrow for your first sneak peek of the new Second Chance Animal Rescue Inc. Community Animal Hospital at Craigieburn, or better yet if you're a morning person go along and be a part of the crowd! This amazing facility will feature an Animal Rescue Shelter, Cattery and the Safe House for Pets Program, which will provide foster homes to the pets of people escaping domestic and family violence until their owners find secure accommodation. There will also be a training and screening room offering puppy school, animal first aid courses and movie nights where guests can snuggle with the shelter dogs and give them some much deserved love.

State law in Victoria requires all dogs and cats over three months of age to be microchipped AND registered with their local Council. Spaces are limited with Council covering the cost of desexing and all money raised from 'pay what you can' going towards the Hume Outreach Pet Program. 05.01.2022 The Lost Dogs' Home's MADI Mobile Cat Desexing Program hit a milestone last Thursday with 4,000 cats desexed! Cats are prolific breeders and research has shown that just one pair of entire cats and their offspring can produce 420,000 cats in seven years. Anecdotally, this program has prevented thousands of unplanned litters, and greatly impacted cat issues in the local community including cat abandonment, decreased impoundment costs, and feline behavior issues such as the ...spreading of disease, fighting, breeding and noise. Since the programs launch three years ago, 14 council partners, including Hume City Council, and three rescue groups have supported over 76 mobile desexing events in their communities. 03.01.2022 Dogs In The Park is happening at Craigieburn Dog Park this Sunday 2 February at 10am or 11:30am Behaviourists from The Lost Dogs' Home will run two free Dog Behaviour Sessions covering: Safe play in the dog park; Reading body language;... Positive training methods; and Enrichment. Each session will be followed by a Q&A where residents can ask questions. Council's City Laws Officer will also be on hand to answer questions and hand out dog treats. Dogs are welcome but they will need to be leashed during the Dog Behaviour Sessions. Session one begins at 10am and session two begins at 11:30am. Bookings are not required.

02.01.2022 We are PAWSITIVELY HOWLING with excitement because the new Broadmeadows Dog Park is OPEN! Located at John Ilhan Memorial Reserve, Hume's newest dog park is a 3,900m2 fully fenced area with a secure perimeter and 1.2m high fencing. There are double gates to ensure your dogs don't get out and two entry/exit points. There's also a separate fenced area for small dogs and a general area for all dogs. In the general area there is agility training equipment made with a recycled ...plastic finish. The training equipment includes a dog bridge, wave poles, tunnel, sit/stay platform and hurdle. There is also a drinking fountain with a dog water bowl bins with dog waste bags seating, shelter, paths and signs displaying the park rules.
