25.01.2022 This time of year brings plenty of yummy treats into the family home - some that are not always good to share with our furry family members. But there's no rea...son they have to miss out on all the fun! Here are some tips for creating a dog-friendly feast to share the party with your canine companions during the festive season. See more

25.01.2022 It's all smiles here as we start heading towards longer days and warmer weeks! Our groomers love spending some quality time with your furry friends, and they work hard to make sure everyone enjoys their fair share of cuddles in between the serious business of staying stylish and clean.

25.01.2022 Our clients have oodles of love for their oodles, and so do we! We love seeing everyone from our cavoodles to groodles, and even the odd schnoodle or two! Our highly trained groomers are more than ready to pamper and spoil your pooch, and are always happy to offer advice on at-home care for specific coats.

24.01.2022 We have teamed up with Neutral Bay Public School and have some of their 2021 Pet Calendars for sale. Some of our lovely patients feature in the calendar. Grab yourself a copy today so you can make big plans for an even better 2021! Only $20 and all proceeds go to the school.

24.01.2022 Humans aren't the only ones who suffer from dry skin woes during the colder months - our pets can experience the same issues with their own hair and skin! And, just like humans, the best way to get on top of these issues is to take preventative measures. A moisturising shampoo and conditioner can work wonders on dry hair and skin, and will make brushing your furry friend between visits even easier! Keeping the skin moist balances out oil and prevents the hair and skin from becoming dry, dull, irritated and matted. Our groomers offer a speciality shampoo for pooches with skin sensitivities and allergies. When booking in your next groom, be sure to let our team know to use our Oatmeal Shampoo! And remember - if you are bathing your dog at home, be sure to let them dry off completely before letting them outside in the cold weather.

24.01.2022 With seasonal changes in weather there is also typically a seasonal change in the amount of time spent outside. This means that our dogs are less likely to be playing or walking on hard surfaces (such as concrete) as much as before - meaning they aren't wearing down their nails as well as they did in summer! It's important to keep an eye on this growth, and if you start to hear a tapping sound when they're walking over wooden floors or tiles, then it's probably time for a trim. This service is offered as an option with all of our grooming and bathing appointments. So don't hesitate to ask our friendly staff about some extra pampering for your pooch next time we see you!

23.01.2022 There's nothing better than that golden smile! Our retriever clients are always so lovely, but sometimes it can be a little hard to see just how much they can benefit from a good brush - just look at that pile of treasure! While brushing out enough hair to make a new dog may not seem so great, for our groomers, it's a sign of a job well done. If you would like to know more about the benefits of a regular brush, or for some at-home care tips to keep your dog's coat looking it's best, feel free to speak to our friendly staff today!

21.01.2022 As the warmer months grow ever nearer, it's always fun to reflect on some of the more impressive transformations happening at Pets in the City as our groomers work their magic! We enjoy comparing before and after shots just as much as our clients, and love to see the difference our groomers can make through their careful work. From Schnauzers to Shih Tzus, we'll have your canine companions looking and feeling their best!

20.01.2022 The temperature may have dropped, but that doesn't mean grooming has stopped for the season! Quite the opposite, in fact - cold weather can often stimulate hair growth, which may result in skin issues and problems with matting. Regular brushing is especially essential if you would like to maintain a long and luscious coat through the winter months. A longer coat can hide skin issues, such as lumps, sores or rashes which is another reason to brush regularly. Brushing throug...hout winter and maintaining regular Wash And Dry appointments will help avoid any matting that may lead to being clipped short. However, if the short shave is unavoidable, then dont forget that there are plenty of options for protective raincoats and natural fibre jumpers available in our retail section! We also have a variety of brushes available to suit all different types of hair, to assist you in maintaining that winter trim in between visits! So while the cold may be an excellent excuse to indulge in a few extra cuddles, it's still important to keep up with a regular grooming routine. Just ask some of our recent clients!

20.01.2022 Thank you for your continued support in 2020 thus far. We re-opened our clinic doors on Wednesday 24th June. What measures are we taking? 1. Limiting the num...ber of clients in the clinic including *one* client per pet 2. Increased cleaning of high touch surfaces 3. Making hand sanitiser available at reception and in all consult rooms 4. Social distancing of 1.5 metres at all times You may also wish to wear your own mask if it makes you more comfortable; likewise we have them for your use and our staff may choose to wear one as well. We kindly ask that, where possible, you stick to your appointment time as closely as you can to limit the number of clients waiting in the reception area. If you are unwell or have been in contact with someone suspected of having COVID-19, we kindly ask that you do not visit the clinic. Our team are here to help you and your pets. Please be patient and kind as we all work hard to keep each other safe. Thank you again for your understanding, patience and ongoing support. If you have any questions, please call us on (02) 9953 1264.

19.01.2022 SENIOR PET HEALTH MONTH 2020 As we move into the second half of the year, we are welcoming back one of our most popular initiatives: Senior Health Month! During... the month of July, in addition to our regular clinic activities, we will have a special focus on the health of our senior patients. We will be offering a special kind of appointment, a Senior Health Check, available for dogs and cats over the age of 7. This appointment involves a comprehensive blood and urine screening, as well as a veterinary consultation focusing on any age-related issues that may be concerning owners. For further information, including pricing, or to discuss any concerns you may have about your own animal companions as they age, please contact the clinic on 9953 1264. And a reminder: if you would like your senior pet to feature in our clinic display, please send in their photos to [email protected] or comment them below! We look forward to seeing you all soon!

18.01.2022 Please note that we now have a QR code and respectfully request that you register any visit (no matter how short or long) with us upon arrival. 17.01.2022 It's important to keep an eye on your pets during the summer months. Being aware of the possible signs of heat stroke can help you know when to take them to the vet.

17.01.2022 Thank you to all of our loyal (and new!) clients who have continued to support us during COVID-19. It has brought us great joy to be able to continue to servic...e you and your pets. We have loved meeting (and cuddling!) lots of puppies and kittens that have been added to your families as well. We also appreciate your patience as weve done things differently over the last few months. We know that life has been challenging for a lot of people on many levels. We wanted to let you know that we are moving towards a new normal as of the 1st June. We will continue our existing services but also reintroduce services that we had deferred such as vaccinations, desexing and cat boarding, amongst others. We will be re-introducing grooming but unfortunately have limited availability at this time and are working to try and offer more spots. We appreciate your understanding and respectfully request that you treat the team with kindness if you are unable to secure a booking that suits. We will continue to remain contactless for a little while to ensure that our team remain healthy as restrictions ease and there is more movement in the community. We will, of course, keep you up to date when that changes. What does that mean? A) We are open our normal hours but our doors remain locked. Please respect appropriate social distances. B) As per guidelines, if you are meant to be self-isolating or are unwell please do not visit the clinic. C) We are admitting and discharging veterinary AND grooming patients via the MIDDLE clinic door (common hallway, entrance via the car park or via the glass doors between 4 Paws and Chemist Warehouse). Please kindly ring us on arrival (9953 1264) and a member of the team will meet you. If you wish to remain in the common area during the appointment, please observe social distances so that our team are not presented with a number of people in very close proximity when they are attending to you and your pet. When your little one is ready to go home we will call you and take payment over the phone. D) We will continue to process food, medication and other purchases over the phone. Where possible, please phone ahead so that we can organise this for you. We kindly ask that you remain outside when you arrive to collect it. Please note that repeat medications may take up to 48 hours to process. If you require a compounded medication we would appreciate at least 7 days notice. E) Regrettably, at this time, we are still unable to perform house visits. Thank you for your understanding, patience and ongoing support. We hope that you continue to remain safe and well and we hope to be able to welcome you back into the clinic soon!

16.01.2022 Introduction of annual permits for non-desexed cats and dangerous/restricted dogs The NSW Government is introducing annual permits for non-desexed cats and rest...ricted and dangerous dogs as part of its commitment to promoting responsible pet ownership and improving animal welfare standards. From 1 July 2020 owners of cats not desexed by four months of age will be required to pay an $80 annual permit in addition to their one-off lifetime pet registration fee. This will create a stronger incentive to desex cats, which in turn will improve their health and wellbeing, including reducing the risk of some cancers. Improving desexing rates will also ease the burden on pounds and shelters, reduce euthanasia rates, and help to address concerns about feral, stray and roaming cats and their effect on wildlife. Exemptions are in place for cats that are registered by 1 July 2020, those kept for breeding purposes by members of recognised breeding bodies, and cats which cannot be de-sexed for medical reasons. From 1 July 2020 owners of dogs of a restricted breed or formally declared to be dangerous will be required to pay a $195 annual permit in addition to their one-off lifetime pet registration fee. This will serve as a further disincentive to owning high-risk dogs and encourage owners to better manage the behaviour of their animal. From 1 July 2020, pet owners will be able to pay for annual permits using the NSW Pet Registry website or through their local council. Anyone registering a cat on the NSW Pet Registry will be informed that they must pay for an $80 annual permit if their animal is not desexed by four months of age. Annual permit fees will go directly to the Companion Animals Fund which pays for companion animal management by local councils including pounds/shelters, ranger services, dog recreation areas, and education and awareness programs. The fund is also used to operate the NSW Pet Registry and carry out responsible pet ownership initiatives. If you require any further information or assistance, please contact the NSW Pet Registry at [email protected] and 1300 134 460.

15.01.2022 Dear Clients, Per NSW Health advice on masks, we are strongly encouraging you to wear a mask when you attend the clinic due the close proximity you are in with our team, particularly in reception and consult rooms. We have disposable masks at reception should you need one.... We also appreciate your cooperation in keeping to our recommendation of only 1 adult attending the clinic per pet and keeping as closely to your appointment time as possible. Thank you for helping to keep us, as well as yourselves, safe during this time.

Keeping the skin moist balances out oil and prevents the hair and skin from becoming dry, dull, irritated and matted. Our groomers offer a speciality shampoo for pooches with skin sensitivities and allergies. When you next book in for a groom with us, be sure to ask about our options for shampoo and conditioner - especially if your little one has sensitive skin!

07.01.2022 Whilst we have not had any confirmed Leptospirosis cases at our 4 Paws Vet clinic, we are urging all pet owners to be aware of signs of illness including vomiting, diarrhea, inappetence, and lethargy. If you have any concerns, please call the clinic on 9953 1264. Currently the leptospirosis vaccination is not routinely recommended, but we will continue to monitor the situation and update our protocol if precautionary vaccination is advised. To date, there have been six con...firmed leptospirosis cases in inner western Sydney (Surry Hills, Glebe, Darlinghurst). As such, it is currently being recommended that 1. Dogs are vaccinated if they live in the Inner West or city area or goes for walks in these areas. 2. Access to rats and stagnant water should be limited. https://www.news.com.au///c5ec7632dd0c377447dd6177a1028d30

04.01.2022 The year's end can be a stressful time for many animals, as strangers, loud noises and bright lights can understandably be a cause for alarm. Thankfully, it doe...sn't always have to be this way. Follow through for some tips on managing your pet's stress and anxiety during this time. If you would like to discuss anxiety management further, please contact our team on 9953 1264.

04.01.2022 Halloween festivities have been gaining popularity with every year, and as fun as it can be for people to get involved, it can still be a stressful time for our... pets. With the big day right around the corner, there are a few simple tricks to follow to keep your furry friends happy and healthy during the spooky season! - first and foremost, keep a very close eye on all sweets (especially chocolate), and keep them stored away in a secure location. Chocolate and artificial sweeteners are toxic to dogs. - Halloween decorations will pose the same level of risk to our pets as with all decorations - think electrocution, choking, strangulation, obstruction. - Be aware of the frequent opening of the front door when entertaining trick or treaters - indoor pets are not used to this frequency and may use it as an opportunity to escape! - Candles that are easily accessed by dogs and cats can be very dangerous, as they are a fire hazard and can also cause burns. - People in costumes are likely to cause a good deal of stress to our pets (especially when the costumes are designed to frighten people!), so try and be mindful of this when opening the door and in street-facing rooms, and try to keep your pets in a calm, quiet area of the house away from most of the festivities. Pet costumes are also gaining popularity, and though they can be a fun way to try and involve your pet in the Halloween hijinks, there are some important things to keep in mind. You should never leave your pet unsupervised in their costume, as they can get caught on other objects, and may also chew at their costume, meaning the risk for internal obstructions is high. If the costume involves any tight elastic components, they can get lost in your pets coat and potentially cause painful swelling. With all this in mind, we would like to wish everyone who chooses to celebrate this holiday a safe and happy Halloween!

03.01.2022 We will be closing for an hour today to discuss the important mental health initiative of R U Ok? Day, something that is close to our hearts in the Veterinary Industry. We also encourage all of you to take time for yourself and your family, friends and colleagues - now more than ever in the year that has been 2020 - filled with so many changes and uncertainty. Take the time to ask R U Ok? Learn more at ruok.org.au

03.01.2022 A friendly reminder to all of our lovely clients in this ever changing COVID environment: *Please kindly limit your attendance at the clinic to 1 person per pet.... This will help us to minimize numerous people in the reception area at one time. We appreciate that this may be inconvenient at times, but do thank you for your understanding as we endeavour to keep all of our team - and you - safe!
