24.01.2022 Hope everyone is doing well. I know a lot of you have been asking for an update on the court of appeal judgment, petition & parliament amendment. The Petition e...nded yesterday and we reached 17184 signatures, although we did not get the 20K required it is still presented to parliament. This effort was beyond amazing considering I did not have a huge paid PR campaign. Thank you so much to every single person that signed, shared and supported this petition, I’m forever grateful. We still have an amendment in Parliament which keeps getting kicked down the road so to speak, however, Kevin Anderson MP must address this amendment in line with the court judgment. The courts made it clear that not only did blanket bans on pets in strata contravene Strata Legislation it also contravenes our property rights and laws. Mr Anderson must now address and amend this into Strata Legislation. Below are two extracts from the court judgment that all strata schemes & Parliament need to pay attention to. Last night after 5.25 years of effort the Horizon held an EGM to vote on a Pet Friendly by-law and after many amendments, 99% voted in favour of a pet-friendly bylaw, despite one owner trying to ignite the High Court appeal debate. The Horizon now has a by-law that reflects the actual position of pets always being in the building. Angus & all the other pets are free to enjoy their homes now :) Much Love, Jo x "A lot owner in a freehold strata scheme holds a freehold estate, the rights and obligations of which are those attaching to a well-known form of real property: [9], [76]. The fundamental principle of indefeasibility of title to real property under the Torrens system has significance in identifying the attributes of a particular title, including the constraints imposed by by-laws: [9] A liberal democracy is not a majoritarian dictatorship; it operates under legal constraints designed to protect minorities from oppression. 17.01.2022 This is a warning for those that take their dogs to sandy beaches. We had a scare yesterday with Rose. We have been camping up at Miracle Beach and yesterday ...before leaving for home we went for a 6 km walk to Salmon Point. It is mostly a hard packed trail along the beach but has one sandy stretch. Rose had lagged a little behind and when I turned to see her she was digging in the sand and eating something. It probably lasted less than a minute. When we got home last evening she vomited many times and there was lots of sand in it. Fortunately I checked on the internet where it said that this is very dangerous and to seek medical treatment immediately so we rushed her to Waves emergency clinic in Victoria. They took her in and said it was very good that we took her as sand quickly compacts in the intestines with the dehydration from vomiting and death can follow. They kept her there and we got home at 3 am. We were so worried and did not sleep all night. Fortunately she did well over night and was released this afternoon. When I saw the copy of the x-ray I was shocked at the amount of sand in her abdomen and intestines. Today it is nearly gone. The vet said it can only take a minute for them to consume that much sand. I had never heard how dangerous sand can be and this is my tenth dog. It can also be consumed off a ball wet with sand or from licking their feet. I am posting this so others know. Thankfully we still have our little Rose but it sure scared us. Waves is an amazing clinic and they said they really spoiled Rose as she was such a sweetheart. But it could have had a worse ending.
