25.01.2022 Help #stopthespread by knowing how to use a mask properly! 1. Make sure you wash your hands before putting on a mask 2. Make sure your mouth and nose are covered and there's no gaps between your face and the mask 3. Make sure you're not just re-using the same mask over and over again.... 4. Make sure you remove it properly, from the strings of the mask (not the front) and throw away in a closed bin. Make sure you wash your hands again. Need anymore info? Call the coronavirus health information hotline on 1800 020 080.

24.01.2022 This week is International Men's Health Week. This week is celebrated all around the world to highlight men's health and what it means for them to be healthy. Did you know that men take their own lives at four times the rate of women (that's five men a day, on average)? Accidents, cancer and heart disease all account for the majority of male deaths.... It is important that men make use of health services to preventatively manage their health and find out before it's too late if problems exist. But equally, health services need to know how to reach out to, communicate with and engage with men to be effective in helping them when they do come through the door, which is something we strive to do here at Colebee Family Medical Centre. Here are some tips to help break down the stigmas around men's health: - Be active in getting medical help if you don't feel well, have a problem that won't go away or notice unusual symptoms. - It's OK to seek help - don't try to do everything on your own or bury problems. Talk to your partner, friends and workmates. - Push hard to get the help you need to manage your life, work, family and financial needs. - Ladies, be proactive in helping your men and boys get the help they and you need. Use available hotlines, speak with professionals to get the best course of action and be persistent. - Don't leave it too late to seek help. Fear is not a killer. If you feel the need to speak with one of our doctors, don't hesitate to ask to speak to our male doctors. You can book in with them on hotdoc.com.au or give us a call on (02) 8206 9095
24.01.2022 Today is World Blood Donor Day! This day is to say thank you to our voluntary, unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood and also to raise awareness of the need for regular blood donations to ensure that all individuals and communities have access to affordable and timely supplies of safe and quality-assured blood and blood products, as an integral part of universal health coverage and a key component of effective health systems.
24.01.2022 This month is Jul-EYE The RANZCO Eye Foundation (Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists) dedicates this month its annual community awareness campaign. JulEYE is aimed at educating Australians about eye disease and is encouraging everyone to discuss their family eye history. Despite 75% of vision loss being preventable or treatable, many Australians are still not finding out if eye disease is part of their family history to determine if theyre at risk and... need to have their eyes checked. If you haven't yet, make the effort to get your eyes checked this JulEYE and make an appointment with your local optometrist!
23.01.2022 This day is all about "protecting youth from industry manipulation and preventing them from tobacco and nicotine use." For decades, the tobacco industry has deliberately employed strategic, aggressive and well-resourced tactics to attract youth to tobacco and nicotine products. But did you know that very 15 cigarettes you smoke will cause a mutation in your body and mutations are how cancers start.... And this is just one of the things that tobacco can do to your body. If you want to make the change in yours or someone else's life and quit smoking, give us a call on (02) 8206 9095 or book an appointment on HotDoc.
21.01.2022 Help #stopthespread and avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth without cleaning your hands first. This will help keep bacteria out of your system, so make sure you're regularly washing your hands or sanitising them. Any other questions? Book in with one of our doctors on (02) 4622 1440 or book on HotDoc, or call the Coronavirus Health Info Hotline on 1800 020 080.

If you notice someone who might be struggling - start a conversation. Today should remind us that we're all human and it can be a massive encouragement to just know that people around you care. It's ok to not be ok, and its always ok to talk about it - a conversation could change a life. #ruok #ruokday
