22.01.2022 Hey trans*, non-binary, genderqueer and gender diverse friends!! We're looking for people to join an advisory group to help us make sure DocDir is doing the bes...t we can for the TGD community. Given COVID times, we will be doing meetings online, via Zoom, facilitated by our very own trans* co-founder, SJ. There will be at least 3 meetings to give feedback about the website (yes, you'll get a first sneak peek), our vetting process for clinicians and other exciting stuff. We are looking for a range of identities and experiences, so we highly encourage TGD people with disabilities, refugee and migrant TGD people, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander TGD people, brotherboys and sistergirls to apply. Apply here: http://docdir.com.au/co/application-for-tgd-advisory-group/ This program has been funded by TGV's SPARK program, and you will be reimbursed for your time. If you have any questions, reach out to us at [email protected] Transgender Victoria, Out for Australia, Thorne Harbour Health
21.01.2022 PFLAG is a voluntary group of parents whose aim is to assist other families with lesbian, gay, bi, transgender, intersex and queer members to understand and care for each other where needed. Many parents feel very alone, confused and don't know where to go for assistance and support when their son/daughter makes them aware of their sexual orientation or gender. If you're looking for support or just want to connect with other families, message us or contact one of our members below. PFLAG has members in Cairns and surrounding areas. Phone Melinda on 0412133010.

13.01.2022 Message from Shelley Argent: I would like to thank the many volunteers who helped pack the 25,000 resources into 2,500 packs. We all spent all day Saturday, 19th September working to complete what we, the PFLAG+ parents and allies feel is extremely important to encourage additional information and support for teachers. We know that most teachers do try and want to be supportive. This resource we hope, is helpful and is a win,win for our loved ones and the teachers. ... Resources can be down loaded from www.pflagbrisbane.org.au or [email protected] or call 0400 767 832 if you would like a pack posted
13.01.2022 We have refreshed our name! We would like to announce that the admin team of this page has changed the name from 'FTM Australia' to 'Trans Masc Australia'. We... know that language and social change is often tricky so we hope this name change helps our followers feel better reflected and visible in our community. We know that not every gender diverse person presumed female at birth (PFAB) likes the term FTM, takes testosterone, identifies as trans etc, and that no one word will ever define us collectively. We are a beautifully diverse community with our own unique experiences. We also want to acknowledge, and are grateful to our FTM elders and pioneers who created and fostered this page before us and on whose shoulders we stand as trans masc folk today.

04.01.2022 IMPORTANT FOR PERSONS UNDER 18. Providing puberty blockers and gender affirming hormones to those aged below 18 is complex. Based on Federal Family Court outco...mes following Re Kelvin (2017) it was advised that a Gillick Competent minor could access hormones and blockers if it was deemed medically appropriate, and that the minor had been assessed as able to consent and understanding of this process (Gillick Competent). Building on this legal outcome earlier this month, RE IMOGEN, is a Federal Family Court legal case that acknowledges that blockers and hormone therapy are life saving, and are a necessity to many gender diverse people in their gender journey. They also ruled Imogen as being able to commence her hormone journey despite not having her mother’s support: Congrats Imogen! Now for the devastating downside. Re Imogen ruled that if parents are not in agreement, and actively consenting, of a young person under 18 commencing hormone therapy then they must seek permission of the Family Court. We are advised this does not impact those who have already been declared competent and have commenced hormones or blockers. This needing to obtain consent would still be required even if one parent is not able to be located or is abusive for example. How this looks if state based custody orders or other state based legal protections are in place is still being clarified and we will update you as we find out more. We encourage people to seek their own legal advice if concerned. This basically summarises to: a minor cannot consent to stage 1, 2 or 3 treatment of gender dysphoria, even if Gillick Competent, if a parent disputes the diagnosis or treatment. Any dispute must be taken to the Family Court where the best interests of the minor will placed as paramount consideration. We assure you that advocates across the country, as well as AusPATH (who have issued their own statement) and many health services are working as quickly as possible to seek clarity and challenge this. This will impact so many negatively and we are thankful for the many mental health providers working to support our young gender diverse community. Trans Hub has updated their website to reflect this news and provide some more information in addition to their already outstanding resources. https://www.transhub.org.au/hormones-criteria

01.01.2022 Use people’s pronouns. If you’re not sure, ask them. If you make mistakes, apologise, move on and PRACTICE. Please stop making us feel like we are burdens un...to you, because trust me, your misgendering is a burden unto us. & - Proud Minority ... [Image description: A photo of Nevo smiling and looking out to the left. They are wearing a black t-shirt that has they/them in a planet symbol. Text reads: They/them pronouns are not a preference, they are my pronouns. They are my right to exist as my full self, and not the version of me you feel comfortable with. Pronoun use is not political correctness, it is suicide prevention, mental health care and community nourishment.]
