25.01.2022 Attention all parents ,friends and families of the LGBTIQ community CASUAL COFFEE MEETUP DATE: Saturday 29 May 2021 TIME: 10am PLACE: Supply Speciality Coffee and Bar, Coffs Jetty

24.01.2022 A really important AWARENESS Day tomorrow 2020 has been a challenging year for everyone and circumstances have made it even more important for us all to stay connected and, for those who are able, be willing to support those around us. In the lead-up to R U OK?Day we’ll help Australians know what to say when someone says they’re not OK and guide them through how they can continue a conversation that could change a life. You don’t have to be an expert to keep the conversation going when someone says they’re not OK. By knowing what to say you can help someone feel supported and access appropriate help long before they’re in crisis, which can make a really positive difference to their life.

24.01.2022 This free event is for parents of trans and gender diverse young people. For more info and to register go to: https://www.stickytickets.com.au/HMMAC

21.01.2022 It's a weird, weird time. It can seem easy to dismiss COVID-19 as "just a flu", but that's disregarding how it can affect pals with compromised immune systems, ...and those who aren't able to rampage through supermarkets to get supplies. Social distancing is super important right now, even if it cramps our style a little. Here's a bunch of super good tips, and things to do while we're self-isolating. Remember, look after yourself and each other! Be kind, be safe, and reach out to help pals in need if you can! Amazing images via @hellomynameiswednesday

20.01.2022 Happy Easter everyone-stay safe and enjoy xx

20.01.2022 Great coffee meet! We will have these on a regular basis as we (including me) always get something out of these face to face meet ups. I have 1000 PFLAG cards so will be distributing this week to regional relevant services and pyschologist offices etc -please ask if you need some where you work or hang out! Lets get the word out. One PFLAG mum said that when I said to her " You know I believe that our children never choose to take this harder road - its not a choice" She said that statement was transformative- we can make a difference supporting each other in such a simple way- its why this group is so important. We are just parents chatting and sharing what we are experiencing. Cheers, Sam

19.01.2022 Today is the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, Biphobia, and discrimination against intersex people. In Australia, we've come a long way since ...the World Health Organisation declassified homosexuality as a mental disorder on this very day, in 1990. But there is much more work to be done here, and around the world to ensure our communities live free from discrimination. This IDAHOBIT, we promise to continue working alongside our communities to ensure: Intersex people are no longer subject to forced or coercive medical interventions. Trans and gender diverse Australians can access the support, affirmation and healthcare they need, including ID documents that reflect their gender. We are no longer exposed to harmful conversion practices. The end of outdated carve-outs to anti-discrimination laws that allow religious educational institutions to fire or expel people because of their sexuality or gender identity.

14.01.2022 17 May is IDAHOBIT: International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia and Transphobia. It was started in 2004 to commemorate the day in 1990 when the World Health Organization declassified homosexuality as a mental disorder. There is still a long way to go because, as of 2020, there are still 68 countries where homosexuality is criminalised, and trans and gender diverse people around the world continue to face discrimination and pathologisation.... Over the years, the focus of the day has broadened to draw attention to the violence and prejudice experienced by all sexuality and gender diverse communities, as well as intersex people. Today, IDAHOBIT is recognised in more than 130 countries, including Australia. This year’s global theme is ‘Breaking the Silence’. It aims to challenge stigma, give hope and extend solidarity to those that cannot speak up. - IDAHOBIT wear the rainbow today xx

14.01.2022 Hello!!! My name is Sam and Im the PFLAG coordinator - why did I want to be involved? Because 13 years ago we arrived here from Alice Springs and my then 15 year old son was grappling with what it meant to be a gay...I could not find others in the same situation to chat to , ask questions safely and ask how I can best support my son. I didn't know what to do , say and even protect him. With this Covid I have had the challenge of not organising group face to face meetings BUT ...I have had lots of chats and even one on ones and I invite anyone who wants info, advice and a friend who has been through the various stages of supporting a loved one, to contact me. My other voice I have is through a full page article generously donated to me via Coffs Coast Focus so I urge anyone who is doing great things out there to also contact me for me to be able to interview and spread the word- its a powerful medium to get the word out there and even encourage other families to know about us! Its a voluntary group, casual, relaxed and I know PFLAG Coffs Coast has helped our locals so far! Message me for more details too! See more
