23.01.2022 Forage brassicas provide viable recovery options for moisture damaged crops in Southern Tasmania. The dams are filled, the soil is moist, and the grass is looking strong. Unfortunately, this much-needed drenching has also led to many poppy and pea crops becoming damaged and, in some cases, abandoned. While this outcome for those with affected poppy and pea crops is disappointing, there are options to plant in those paddocks that are already prepared, watered and ready to go. ...Forage brassicas provide a viable option to replace the damaged crops and utilise all the work that has gone into paddock preparation. David Squibb, PGG Wrightson Seeds Sales Agronomist, explains, "Whether you require a short term or long-term crop alternative, we have the varieties and the expertise to help maximise production. It's time to utilise that extra soil moisture and get the most out of that perfectly prepared damaged paddock." You can choose from quick-growing options like leafy turnips (Pasja II) or longer maturing options like forage rape (Titan forage rape). Both are great options if you are looking for a high-quality, multi graze options that will bring you through to autumn. Follow this with an annual ryegrass to fill the feed gap until you are ready to re-sow your pea or poppy crop in spring 2021. If you only want to sow once, sow Pallaton Raphno. This innovative raphanobrassica will provide you with a high yielding, aphid tolerant, multi graze source of high-quality feed that will take you through to the end of winter. Pallaton will also put that extra soil moisture to good use with its 38% increase in water use efficiency (WUE) compared to Goliath forage rape. "All three brassicas are great options for Tassie. Plus, with the price of beef and lamb at the moment, it is important to maximise your operation, even if a drenching has wiped out or damaged your first crop." David concludes.
22.01.2022 When it comes to tropical and sub-tropical grasses, the Envirogro seed treatment process does more than just coat the seed. Throughout the process, the harvested seed is cleaned and coated giving the bare seed the best chance of establishment. It also creates a uniformed seed size for improved ballistic capabilities AND, increases the seed count per bag of seed. Seed count is increased because all the sticks, weed seed and other contaminants have been removed/cleaned prior t...o coating. In a nutshell, Envirogro is a patented seed treatment process that can remove the common problems associated with bare seed. Throughout the treatment process, the harvested seed is processed and cleaned to improve purity and bare seed count. It then has an insecticide (Gaucho) applied before being coated with polymers and talc to give each seedling a better chance to survive thus, reducing the risk of establishment failure. Depending on the species, the treatment is tailored slightly to maximise the result. Ultimately, Envirogro removes the common problems associated with bare seed, maximises your bare seed count and enables you to get the most out of your new tropical or subtropical pasture.
19.01.2022 Yesterday Ben Giblett, a valued Rural Sales team member at Ace Ohlsson McGraths Hill, inspected the progress of the Palaton Raphno with Territory Manger for PGG... Wrightson Seeds Jonathon Tink. It is impressive brassica species with fantastic growth after 52 days since germination to average 3 tonnes per ha dry matter. The other important agronomic factor is no significant cabbage moth damage or other insect damage right now when pest numbers are high.. #aceohlsson #pggwrightson #production #agronomy #forage See more

17.01.2022 A fantastic fescue for the New England Region NSW. Recent trials conducted in Armidale NSW have Quantum II Max P summer active tall fescue proving its performance, persistence, and production. Download a full copy of the trial here: https://ecs.page.link/8wznR
15.01.2022 Fun with drones. This week, the PGG Wrightson Seeds team headed out to Barrabool Victoria to check out a stunning 4 year stand of lucerne Stamina GT5 and a pasture of Ascend annual ryegrass. The sunrise sure was on point!
09.01.2022 Brassica tip: Turnips and potential milk taint. Although turnips can cause milk taint, it is something that can be avoided with a balanced diet. For brassica management in a dairy operation, it is normally recommended that turnip does not exceed 33% of the total diet. Have questions about brassica in a dairy operation? Post your question below for answers from your local PGG Wrightson Seeds Sales Agronomist
06.01.2022 An impressive result from the Pallaton crop at Dunbogan Merino Stud. $2667.00 gross per hectare
06.01.2022 Great in a mix, Envirogro treated Callide Rhodes grass is a highly productive and palatable grass with day-length sensitive flowering for maximum production.
05.01.2022 PEST WATCH! Insects such as DBM (Diamondback Moth) and CWB (Cabbage White Butterfly) are currently running rampant in the northern and southern states. Warm, humid conditions = WCB + DBM hatching in roughly 7 days. And once these critters hatch, we all know they hatch hungry. As such, it sure is time to double-check the brassica crop for critters. Post any questions in the comment section below if you are having issues with pests, we are happy to help.
02.01.2022 The right combination of products can ensure you get the most out of your land whilst reducing potential environmental risks. This fantastic mix of oats, ryegrass and clover sown in WA is a great example of this. It has grown in thick with massive tillering and 15 tonne per hectare.
