19.01.2022 Taylor continuing his training at home.

18.01.2022 Interesting challenge put forward by Joao. Keep the family happy and do this outside if you can.

17.01.2022 Some simple footwork exercises that can be done at home. There are lots of variations here. You can replace the hurdles with cones, doweling, cardboard tubes (whatever you can find to use) For younger keepers start with selecting 3 or 4 drill variations and repeat each one 6 to 8 times. You can start with less hurdles (3-4). As you master each drill, you can add the more complex variations. Older keepers can do all of the variations with 6-8 repetitions. ... Keep in mind these exercises are about technique rather then speed. As you improve you can can pickup the pace.

17.01.2022 PGT would like to wish all of our members, (academy, clinic and camp attendees), and their families, a wonderful, safe Christmas and New Year. I'd like to thank all of our coaches for their wonderful work throughout a disrupted year. Looking forward to a terrific 2021.

16.01.2022 Good use of a corner area. Working with both feet, this is about body shape, composure, and of course technique

16.01.2022 A bit of fun,great PR

14.01.2022 With the continuing shut down of our normal training and playing opportunities the coaches at PGT have been working towards providing our academy members, and other goalkeepers who may follow our pages, with some activities that can be useful in keeping fit and improving technique. Hopefully when the restrictions are lifted and play and training begins again you can return to the field better prepared We are linking up with our friends internationally, Joao Santos (formerly A...cademy Goalkeeper Coach for Sporting Clube de Portugal), Gary Phillips (Head Academy Goalkeeper Coach for Crystal Palace), Miguel Miranda (Academy Goalkeeper Coach Coordinator for Sporting Clube de Portugal), to source a variety of activities to present to you. Given everyones training space and resources are different, some ingenuity and adaptation may be necessary. If you have a new idea to share with our PGT family on how to manage an exercise or activity please let your coaches know and share your ideas and adaptations of what is presented. Whatever your circumstances, please remember to take care and practice safely.

14.01.2022 An interesting article. Thank you to Peter Blasby (PGT Mornington Peninsular) for this. An Article from FA Sports Psychologist Dan Abrahams... Training Day How to Train Intentionally... Intentional Training Ok, Im want to train to the best of my ability today. The most important thing is I train to learnI train to improve How am I going to do this? I have to make my training INTENTIONAL this means it has to be interesting, intense, integrated and internalised. What does this mean? Interesting and intense I need to set a goal to grab my focus of attention. I need to make this session interesting. Im going to work on using my left foot more. So Im going to try to receive the ball more often with a different body shape so I can control the ball and pass with my left foot. By doing this Im going to make the training session intense. Its intense, not just physically but mentally because Im taking a risk. Im coming out of my comfort zone by receiving the ball and passing with my left foot. Its going to feel uncomfortable, it may be ugly, but thats ok. I have to deal with that. I have to try to improve every training session. Integrated I have to strive to get some feedback from the coaches about this goal. I will also ask them to spot anything else they see that I can improve. That third eye will help me be more aware of my current ability to play with my left foot. It will help me strive to improve it even more. Internalised as Im training I need to self-reflect in the moment am I getting this right? How can I do this even better? Is my body shape correct? Does my first touch allow me to play a pass with my left foot? Am I striking the ball confidently with my left? I have to take charge of my training. Its not up to my coaches, its up to me. I am responsible, its about me. I cant rely on my coaches to do it for me, I have to drive my training mindset. I have to train intentionally. See more

13.01.2022 Great work Nathan and coach Peter Blasby. Good to see training continued up until the strict lockdown.

12.01.2022 Congratulations Layne and coach Mike Dwyer

12.01.2022 A good video for those with very little space at home. For the younger ones dont overdo it, start with less repetitions and build up slowly over a period of time. As goalkeepers are expected to be an 11th field player the ball work is a handy addition to the general program.

11.01.2022 An essential part of your training regime. According to the International Conditioning Association skipping can improve your speed, agility, power, endurance, balance and coordination. All of which are must haves for goalkeeping. It also works your calves, glutes and quads, as well as your shoulders, chest back and triceps (from turning the rope).

11.01.2022 Thanks again to Peter Blasby for another good article. https://nyti.ms/39ibuYM

11.01.2022 Agrees with what what we have talked about and worked on. Thanks Peter Blasby for the article

11.01.2022 Tarla Dwyer ex PGT Townsville and camp regular, (blue strip) training at her 2020 club Bulleen (NPL Premier Ladies, VIC.) with Lydia Williams (Matildas Goalkeeper).

08.01.2022 Some more simple footwork drills for home.

07.01.2022 Something slightly different with footwork. Again lots of variations here with emphasis on short quick steps, and balance.

07.01.2022 Training at home, with assistance. Taylor Noack (PGT Cairns) keeping up his goalkeeper taining.

07.01.2022 Some more simple footwork drills.

06.01.2022 This replaces the previous PGT video.

06.01.2022 Up there with the best. I had the pleasure of seeing Ray play in the early seventies.

05.01.2022 Early bird discount for PGT January Camp ends on Monday. If you want to claim your discount for this great camp, book and pay by November 30. Apply here https://forms.gle/gsytY9324YNFgwoZ6

04.01.2022 My sentiments as well, it has been a terrific week of webinars.

04.01.2022 Simple footwork, its that touch and feel of the ball. Very important. Also slowly adjust the distance from the wall, going out to 2-3 meters, with the ball moving at a consistent pace. As you improve, pick up the pace of the ball.

03.01.2022 Pleased to announce the winner of the train at home video competition is Kahn Rebic, from PGT Cairns. Well done Kahn! The judges felt that Kahns video showed solo work, with no assistance. Also thank you to all the other members who took part in the competition and submitted entries.

03.01.2022 As we have mentioned on many occasions, all keepers need to have good ball control. There is a very good section in this video starting at 1:42 on quality ball control exercises.Of course these can be done in confined areas. You can add more variations and gradually increase your pace as you improve.

02.01.2022 Interesting interview. Thanks Peter Blasby.

02.01.2022 Christmas greetings to PGT from Mario Kempes. Looking forward to our next visit to Valencia.

02.01.2022 Goalkeeper Clinic for the school holidays.

01.01.2022 A set of exercises for the isolated keeper to work on. Thanks to Rocco for this one. The following is one of the best exercises you can do on your own It uses minimum equipment: -Solid brick or concrete wall on grass... -1 Football -Cones or markers -Chalk or non-permanent marker Done properly it gives the following benefits -Dramatically improves tour volleying and kicking accuracy -Improves fast correct setting from a variety of starting positions -Enhances your reflexes and fast twitch -Improves correct hand position for different saves -Improves diving technique for all saves 1. Standing about 5-6 metres away from wall start volleying the ball until you consistently receive the ball back at about chest height with no lateral movement, you may need to move back or forward depending on your serving power. When you are comfortable with this make a mark on the wall and label it 3, and place a cone on the ground, this becomes Starting point A. You should now be able to continually volley/kick ball from A to 3 and receive at about chest height with correct W technique; you are now ready for the next step. 2. Place another cone to the left of A. This now becomes starting point B. Standing at B and still hitting 3 on the wall, you will now need to move laterally to your right to catch the ball with correct W technique. 3. By placing cones further to the left and continuing to hit 3 on the wall you will now increase you lateral movement going from sidestep to full extension diving. 4. You can duplicate this to the Right of A to work on your left. Once you have mastered the first height you are now ready to work at the other heights. 1. Again standing about 5-6 metres away from wall start kicking the ball off the ground until you consistently receive the ball back at about ground level with no lateral movement, you may need to move back or forward depending on your serving power. When you are comfortable with this make a mark on the wall and label it 1. Note starting point, A remain the same for all exercises. You should now be able to continually kick ball from A to 1 and receive at about ground level with correct Scoop or block technique. 2. Repeat steps 2 to 4 above to progress to full extension ground saves on both sides. The same can now be done for Low Dives And High Dives Things to look out for. -Consistently hitting the target point. -Make sure you do set before executing the save, do not go into the save straight after the serve -Try setting as fast as possible after the service. -Make sure you attack the ball forward of your starting position -Finish the save. Do not be in a hurry to go to the next one -If possible, try to video yourself, review and be honest with your self -You can send the video to your coach for further evaluation and comments, recommendations
