01.01.2022 - 200,000 people suffer burns annually in Australia each year! This patient burnt her hand on an iron skillet and followed the recommended after-care procedures to treat a burn. Although this burn looks relatively minor, the results could have been very different if adequate and timely care was not administered. The immediate cooling of the burn prevented extensive blistering, potential infection and therefore allowed quicker healing. Treatmen...t included; Immediately after incident - Removed the heat by running under cool water for 30 minutes. Following water treatment - Visited the Pharmacy and applied a recommended Hydrogel impregnated pad and/or frequent gel application that rapidly cooled the burn, helped to prevent further tissue damage, along with aiding the healing process, while also offering ongoing pain relief. . 12 hours later Visited our wound care clinic at Pharmacy 777 Applecross Village where a specialist Pharmacist assessed the severity and re-dressed the wound in a hydrocellular gel dressing to provide a balanced moist wound environment with further cooling. . 24 hours later To keep the blisters intact (that avoids risk of infection, and promote quicker overall healing) the treating Pharmacist applied a soft silicone foam dressing. This acts as a barrier from bacteria and is an optimum temperature and moisture. Also advised to keep hand dry and rested. . Pharmacy 777 on Riseley Street and Ardross Street both offer dedicated Wound Care Clinics to assist in treating all forms of wounds. A referral diagnosis will be recommended if required.
