25.01.2022 In the lead up to World Pharmacists Day 2020, today we celebrate our community pharmacists working tirelessly to support their local communities. The coronavirus pandemic has highlighted the strong role community pharmacists play in the health of our region. In a time of heightened anxiety, my team was able to provide a range of health services such as influenza vaccines and home delivery while at the same time working closely with our GP and allied health colleagues to a...ccommodate our patients needs while balancing the need to social distance and quarantine. Daniel ODriscoll - QCPP Pharmacy of the Year Finalist and winner of Excellence in Community Engagement category, @wheatbelthealthcentrepharmacy All pharmacists within both stores not only went above and beyond; they provided a pillar for community health in the region which at the time was going into complete panic. Along with most of the front-line health workers throughout Australia, they were impeccable in their delivery, commitment and professionalism through this very tough time in our history. Ryan Norris - @TerryWhite Chemmart Esperance & @bradshawspharmacy Being a pharmacist has never been so important. 2020 has been a tough year, our businesses, work environments and worlds have changed. Our role supporting our communities and patients as a vital link in primary healthcare is so valuable. Working remotely, we were used to mobilising medications quickly and providing support via telehealth and phone. It has taken 5 months to get back into working in some of the clinics we support, and it has caused some reflection on just how important pharmacists are. Medication education delivered in a culturally appropriate way is a key to health improvement. I am grateful that I can contribute to better health outcomes through my role as a remote area community pharmacist. Hannah Mann @kimberleypharmacyservicesbroome Kimberley Pharmacy Services Derby, Kimberley Pharmacy Services Fitzroy Valley We expanded our regular delivery service to include surrounding suburbs. Staff would even deliver when driving to and from work for some patients who had to relocate during the peak of COVID. We utilised the Australia Post express post service. We launched an app packapill. Prescriptions are uploaded, payment is taken through the app and the items are delivered within 3 hours by a courier. Paul Drake-Brockman @yanchepcommunitypharmacy

20.01.2022 As the Perth and Peel metro area emerge from lockdown this morning, attention turns to the lack of an effective COVID-19 national vaccine roll-out strategy, inadequate access to the COVID-19 vaccine and consequently its poor uptake. In yesterday's media release WA Branch President Andrew Ngeow argues that ensuring the safety of more than two and a half million Western Australians requires access to vaccines and currently, the national strategy is failing in that area badly. 16.01.2022 As any pharmacist will tell you, community is the lifeblood of any pharmacy. Prabha Muniandy, owner of Dalyellup Pharmacy states unequivocally that her pharmacy managed a certain level of efficiency of health care and well-being of staff only because of the generosity of the community itself. People provided pizza lunches, cakes and coffee tabs at the nearby cafe to pharmacy staff. This unconditional spirit of the community and the vision of the pharmacy functioning as part of a community network has carried many pharmacists, including those at Dalyellup Pharmacy, through the Covid-19 pandemic. Thank you to everyone who has followed our World Pharmacists Day 2020 celebrations over the last few days. We would like to wish all pharmacists both in Western Australia and across the globe, a safe and happy World Pharmacists Day 2020.

15.01.2022 Wizard Pharmacy Kalgoorlie Central was the first Western Australian pharmacy to dispense an E-Script. Pharmacy owner Elise Wheadon has a high level of enthusiasm for technology, and so its no wonder her team were QCPP Pharmacy of the Year Finalists and winners of the Excellence in Professional Innovation category in 2019. A close relationship with the local medical centre saw Elises team approached to be a part of the Community of Interest for the E-Script roll-out. Elise ...reports the trial has been great and a seamless process as far as workflow. Young mums who are mostly tech-savvy have embraced E-Scripts. Anything to make life easier is going to be adopted". Owner of Blooms the Chemist Port Coogee and Blooms the Chemist Joondalup, Andria Aird, has witnessed first-hand the enormous changes community pharmacists have experienced within the last year. Pharmacists have had to adapt our workflow, policies and procedures at break-neck speed to keep up during the COVID-19 pandemic. There has been immense pressure to stay abreast of new legislative requirements and implement them completely whilst being a source of truth for our teams and our community. At no other time in my career have I felt the weight of community expectations so acutely. It is a timely reminder of the respect and trust that people have for their community pharmacist. One of these changes is the introduction of e-prescribing. Pharmacists are the ones making E-script supply a reality, with the ever-present goal of improving health outcomes for our patients. It is my hope that the introduction of e-prescribing will make the supply of prescription medicines safer and more efficient for those most in need.

07.01.2022 The Pharmacy Guild of Australia WA Branch has welcomed the announcement by the Western Australian Government to extend the emergency period under the Commercial Tenancies (COVID-19 Response) Act 2020, until at least March 28, 2021. Yesterdays announcement acknowledges the stresses that commercial leases are placing on the viability of community pharmacy. The Guild believes a review of the Commercial Tenancy (Retail Shops) Agreement Act 1985 is both required and long overdue. Read the Media Release here: https://bit.ly/32jenXK

07.01.2022 Members may be aware of reports by Channel 7 News yesterday regarding pharmacies delivering "weaker" flu vaccines to elderly patients. The Pharmacy Guild of Australia WA Branch strongly refutes Channel Seven Perth’s report, and calls for their retraction and for them to show responsibility and clarify community pharmacy’s participation in the Western Australian NIP. The Western Australian Government approved community pharmacy’s administration of NIP-funded seasonal influenza... vaccines for persons aged 65 years and over in early 2021, following the completion of a highly successful three-year trial. 06.01.2022 COVID-19 has brought with it many unexpected challenges, including to the hundreds of West Australians who entered enforced 14-day isolation in Perth's quarantine hotels. Pharmacy owner at Priceline Pharmacy Hay Street Perth and WA Branch Committee member, Nick Partridge, explains how his team have stepped up to support people in 5 different quarantine hotels. "During this COVID year, to say Perths CBD has had its challenges would be the understatement of the year. During ...the peak of the lockdowns, my wife and daughter had to experience the forced 14-day hotel quarantine which wasnt a pleasant exercise but we supported each other through it and we survived. As a result, I gained an understanding of the need for ongoing support to be provided to a very diverse group of people in similar situations. Using this experience, I made it my mission to assist as many quarantining people as was possible because I knew how stressful their situation was. For the last 3 months or so, my team have been patiently assisting the people in quarantine hotels with advice, prescriptions, free delivery services and a friendly ear. Although this has meant a significant increase in workload for the team, we have continued to provide the free service as we feel these people need an experienced team to help them through this forced unnatural situation."

05.01.2022 This Friday 25th September has been designated World Pharmacists Day, a day when everyone can celebrate the great work pharmacists do across the world. Over the next five days The Pharmacy Guild of Australia WA Branch will be highlighting the fantastic work that our members do to ensure the communities they serve have access to the best possible medications and care. Pharmacy owner at Pharmacy 777 Lynwood and Vice President of the Pharmacy Guild WA Branch, Natalie Willis, exp...lains how her team are responding to the challenges of COVID-19: Im so proud of the part that Community Pharmacy has played during the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly around influenza vaccinations. I speak from experience when I say it wasnt easy to juggle spatial distancing, enhanced cleaning requirements and unprecedented demand for influenza vaccines, in addition to all the other challenges we faced at the height of the pandemic. My team were fantastic in how they stepped up and made the adjustments necessary to handle large daily volumes of vaccine patients with humour and grace. I like to think of it as a training run for what we will face when pharmacy is called upon to administer a coronavirus vaccine, hopefully in the near future. I have no doubt Community Pharmacy will be up to the challenge!
