24.01.2022 READ: After years of consultation, lobbying, research and engagement, Victoria is about to become the last state in Australia to have its own spent convictions’ legislation. In February this year, the State Attorney-General, Jill Hennessy, announced Victoria would be joining the rest of the nation in the significant criminal record reform. The legislation is likely to become law early next year. The discrimination based on old criminal offences has been particularly onerous f...or Aboriginal people and women. But the legislation removes barriers to what can be a lasting rehabilitation. Central to shifting the parameters of the argument around spent convictions was the work of the Woor-Dungin Criminal Record Discrimination Project.

21.01.2022 Big results from small grant: Twelve months on from an Australian Philanthropy Award Last year, a tourism initiative that helped boost visitor interest to western Queensland was recognised with Australian Philanthropys Best Small Grant Award. The $45,000 grant from the Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal, supported by the Tim Fairfax Foundation and Qantas, started what became the Barcoo Way tourist trail, and 12 months on it has proven to be an exciting new frontier for intrepid tourist. The Australian Philanthropy Awards 2020 will be presented via a digital ceremony on Tuesday 17 November.
