24.01.2022 As always I make the point that my posts are mine and include my opinions and ideas, not those of Council or other individual councillors. This means that I DO NOT SPEAK/POST on behalf of Council. I am seeing criticism of Council on Facebook in respect of transparency and the rates. I feel strongly about both of these. In common with other candidates my main overarching concerns were, and remain, communication/consultation, accountability, sustainability and transparency. Wh...Continue reading

21.01.2022 ONE BITE AT A TIME! Firstly, I make the point that my posts are mine and include my opinions, not those of Council or other individual councillors. This means that I DO NOT SPEAK/POST on behalf of Council So, it is now about six weeks since the elections! The dust of the elections is beginning to settle and being replaced by the sweat from frenzied councillor activity as I try to climb the steep learning curve as fast as possible - sometimes it feels like I am trying to eat a...Continue reading

21.01.2022 Firstly, just the usual reminder that my posts are mine and include my own opinions and ideas from my perspective as a councillor. I do not speak for Council (only the Shire President or someone authorised by the President can do that), nor for other individual councillors. This means that I DO NOT SPEAK/POST on behalf of Council. Since my last post the world, including Toodyay, has been on a roller-coaster! Hopefully when we come out of this it will be to a better world. How...Continue reading

09.01.2022 Firstly, I make the point that my posts are mine and include my opinions, not those of Council or other individual councillors. This means that I DO NOT SPEAK/POST on behalf of Council. Apologies for tardiness in posting, as I said in my previous post there is a lot of activity going on for me much of it still involved with getting my head round the complexities. Since my last post I have:... Responded to queries from community members Continued to read, consult with fellow councillors and make suggestions regarding the many policies, and other council related documents, that need revision and or review. The policies are the basis of everything we do as councillors. Been in regular communication with fellow councillors about a wide variety of council related matters Attended and participated in several Special Council Meetings for various purposes including the recruitment of a new CEO Read and researched background materials related to a number of planning applications in order to inform how I would vote on those at council meetings Attended and participated in the December and January Agenda Briefings and the related OCMs. Matters that were considered at these included but were not limited to: several planning applications; CEO recruitment, policy reviews, financial reports and the Shire Audit report Attended and participated in a two day workshop as a step in the process of reviewing the Shire’s Long Term Financial Plan Attended and participated in Audit and Environmental Committee meetings Attended and participated in the Council Quarterly Strategic Meeting in February Attended and participated in a briefing/inspection of roads conducted by the Manager, Works and Services Coming up in the next few weeks: Council briefing/inspection of building and lands Electors meeting Several whole day meetings relating to CEO recruitment The start of the Budget process with the first of several half-day workshops Two scheduled Community Meetings Audit and Environmental Committee meetings The usual Agenda briefings and Ordinary Council meetings Please remember that all of us have lives outside council, and so cannot be immersed in council business 24/7. Current items that have taken, and will continue to take up a lot of time for this particular councillor over the next couple of months are CEO recruitment; exploring the financial situation in some depth and evaluating the current financial situation of the Shire in order to be able to take an active and effective part in the upcoming budget discussions and process; ongoing attention to policy and policy reviews because the governance is what drives everything else.
