19.01.2022 A video where Philippa talks about one of her story roll artworks. This artwork is available as a beautiful concertina art book published by Fremantle Press. Heres what she says in the video: On a trip through the Great Victoria Desert we came across the Victoria springs. And all near the springs were these huge Xanthorrhoea that had been there for many, many, many years, had never been burnt and some of them with their skirts to the ground and some of them joined together... like they were dancing and they were just so draw-able sitting in amongst all the spinifex. Then walking away through the dunes we came across all the burnt Xanthorrhoea. Miles and miles and miles of a burnt dunes and in between were the glowing leaves of the regenerating eucalyptus with their glorious colour and every single Xanthorrhoea had a flower spike. And these were all the way through as far as you could see, the flower spikes on the Xanthorrhoea like sentinels out in the desert and I just kept drawing and drawing and drawing and it could have gone on forever and ever until finally there was no more room on my desk to finish but it could have been drawn metres and metres and metres. This is the story of the Xanthorrhoea. A walk through the desert with Xanthorrhoea in the Great Victoria Desert.

18.01.2022 Progress Banksia media www.nikulinsky.com.au

18.01.2022 Banksia media, southern plains banksia. This handsome tree was a very large solitary banksia nestled in the centre of a casuarina grove. The grove existi and growing in a shallow layer of soil in a flat area on the sheet granite at Lillian Stokes rocks in the Frank Hann National Park. Over many years I have repeatedly visited the Park. As soon as the car stopped I would go straight to this banksia and walk around and talk to it. It was just so very special. ... In 2018 I made many detailed field drawings intending to one day paint it. In spring 2019, on arrival I walked over and was surprised and very upset to see it completely dead. I said to the tree, Ill have to complete the painting I started to continue your life. It was a great sadness to find it dead. This painting - a homage to a glorious tree. Its bid for eternity. 14.01.2022 Progress on Eucalyptus sideroxylon Www.nikulinsky.com.au

13.01.2022 Sometimes paintings are started then set aside when another subject appears - a fresh specimen to draw and paint from is always better than photographs. This was the case with Philippas Banksia media painting. She started this months ago. Its actually a painting from field drawings made a while back. This painting will be big & Ill be posting progress photos taken by Philippa at the end of her work day. Prints & enquires: www.nikulinsky.com.au Greeting cards & tea towels: www.studio-n.com.au

12.01.2022 Philippa works pretty much everyday in her studio. Shes currently painting the fluffy details of Eucalyptus sideroxylon. She is also working on two other paintings. I recently asked Philippa if she paints flowers or leaves first. Flowers first, she said. Have to get confidence to do the leaves - the hardest to paint. Also if I keep swapping back its hard to make the same colour - not that that really matters she adds. All posts to Philippas Instagram are made by me,... Angela Nikulinsky. I help Philippa share and sell her work online and - in usual times - through studio visits. I also have the privilege of using Philippas work in my design business, studio Nikulinsky Visit www.nikulinsky.com.au to see Philippas online gallery. Follow @studio.nikulinsky & visit www.studio-n.com.au if youre interested in quality Australian made botanical art stationery and gifts Let me know any burning questions you have for Philippa in the comments below. 06.01.2022 When Philippa finishes a painting she leaves it in her studio for a while so she can enjoy it. Then it is collected by @cowling.simon who expertly photographs the painting for Philippas archive and so fine art reproductions can be made. Once digitised, Simon works his magic and produces test prints (shown here) for Philippa to review. Its sometimes a long process to get it right, due to the nature of printing. Once the printing is perfect, these beautiful fine art reproduc...tions are made. Some people cant tell the difference between a reproduction and a painting, they are so well done. Archival quality, signed and limited to an edition on 100, makes them extra special. Philippas online gallery shop will be closing for approximately 2 months on 24 July.
