06.01.2022 When I first moved to Paris I was reading cards for friends using the traditional method passed down through my family (see my previous post last week for more about these origins) as well as the deck of cards I use now called Oracle Belline. My first deck of Oracle Belline was a gift from a friend as up to then I had been reading with my sisters deck. What I love most about these cards is the hand drawn, whimsical, naive and almost childlike quality of the images which are... open to meaning and interpretation. The original creator and illustrator of these cards was a clairvoyant living in Paris in the mid 1800s called Edmond. Almost a hundred years after his death the cards and a diary were discovered amongst some rare books and given to the clairvoyant Belline who re-produced them and added some of his own symbolism and interpretations. As a child I always loved playing with any type of card game. The way I read today is an evolution and adaptation of the traditional method passed down through my family and modern methods Ive learned from my sister and developed myself through working with clients for almost thirty years.

01.01.2022 I grew up in south-west France with ancestral lines from France, Basque country and Spain. When I was very young I would be allowed to watch my mother and grandmother reading cards for family and friends in the lounge room using a normal deck of thirty-two playing cards. This way of reading cards was passed down through my mothers line from Spain. All the usual topics were covered; family issues, relationships, work and money. My older sister learned before me so she also ta...ught me about the cards and introduced me to other decks and ways of reading as my grandmother only knew her familys traditional method with a normal deck of playing cards. When I was around eight or nine years old I would practice on my sister and mother, then when I was a teenager I would read for friends (lots of girls mainly with relationship issues). I have fond memories of the times spent with my grandma in her apartment where we would eat, drink and read cards. She would explain in detail to me the meanings of the cards. My grandmother was a deeply religious, hard working, generous and stubborn woman who really believed in the cards; so much so that she couldnt play card games because she would always be giving away the bad cards. I moved to Paris in my early twenties and it was there that I fell into reading cards professionally with the deck I still use today (twenty four years later), the Oracle Belline.
