24.01.2022 As I sit here trying to write this week’s blog (apparently it's my turn) I wonder how a person who dislikes writing is partnered with someone who loves writing and who thought creating a weekly blog was a good idea! I find writing difficult and am usually better at explaining things in person but I will persevere. This week I want to talk about my wellness program. 17.01.2022 As promised to many, here are some photos of our new clinic ...... Carol and I have one more day each at Phillip Island Sport and Rehab. We are going to miss the awesome team that work there! We also want to wish all our colleagues and patients a very festive holiday season and a safe and happy New Year.

17.01.2022 This week sees a tightening of restrictions in regional Victoria and therefore some changes to the way we are delivering health care at Phillip Island Health. We will still be open to see patients face to face if needed but prefer to see patients via telehealth whenever possible. We can once again see new patients via telehealth and all consultations will continue to be bulkbilled. [ 143 more words ] http://phillipislandhealth.com.au/20//03/stage-3-lockdown/

12.01.2022 This week I thought I’d write about mental health as many people have been negatively impacted by the pandemic. Many of us are feeling flat and lacking motivation and some people who already have depression or anxiety are experiencing worsening of their symptoms. This is not surprising as we are all under increased stress with isolation, financial issues and uncertainty about the future. 11.01.2022 As we move towards the end of 2020 we want to thank our patients for supporting our little clinic and we are looking forward to starting at our new location on the 4/1/2021. Mel is now not only taking bloods and doing pathology but she is also now able to do cervical screening ( was called Pap smear) and she is also now a cosmetic nurse injector and she is offering anti wrinkle injections, with more to come in the new year :)

10.01.2022 Tomorrow we will have some washable face masks for sale. Sizes are small (child or small adult), medium and large. They are $10 each.

07.01.2022 Last week I wrote about how to dial down the sympathetic part of our autonomic nervous system (ANS) to help with stress. This week I want to write about activating the parasympathetic nervous system (PNS). This is relatively easy but unless we have decreased the sympathetic drive it is often like putting a band aid on a laceration that requires suturing. 06.01.2022 Feeling claustrophobic from wearing a mask? Unless you are someone who has worked in a hospital or theatre, wearing a mask is a foreign situation to find yourself in. But here we are, we are even choosing which has the nicer design or fabric. This is not something we would have ever even considered 12 months ago. So, what can we do to decrease that anxiety? 05.01.2022 There are a few cosmetic injection appointments left on Thursday morning. Please direct message for times as these are not yet available on HotDoc appointments.

04.01.2022 This topic seems to be a taboo subject for everyone and I have no idea why. I’ll explain my viewpoint.I believe that no-one wants to be the person to make final decisions on the medical treatment of the ones we love. Having worked with a number of families in this situation, I have come to believe that the panic and emotional strain of making life changing decisions for the ones we love when we ourselves are attempting to process the life altering news, we ourselves have just heard, is undeniably everyone’s worst nightmare. 03.01.2022 Important to remember and be aware of.

03.01.2022 As things are getting warmer our Island Facebook pages are flooded with photos of snakes seen on our local trails and walks, so I thought this was a good time to discuss snake bites and what to do if you or a friend is bitten. Firstly nearly all snakes are shy, they do not want to be near you and if they hear you coming along the trail they generally get out of the way. 01.01.2022 This week’s blog is about stress and the autonomic nervous system and is based upon part of the book I am currently writing How to Heal. We are all hardwired with a two-part autonomic nervous system. Autonomic means that part of the nervous system that is not consciously directed and that is responsible for bodily functions such as breathing, heart beating, digestion etc. [ 1,082 more word ] http://phillipislandhealth.com.au//stress-and-the-autonom/
