18.01.2022 BACK IN THE AIR When the first Phillip Island Helicopter lifted off on Saturday morning, there were several reasons for celebration. Not only was it the company...s first flight since March 23, it was passenger Andrew Evans birthday. Marketing Manager Lauren Mitchell said it was exciting to finally be flying again. Its been a long three months, and everyone is excited to be back. A lot of other helicopter companies (in the state) reopened a few weeks ago, but we waited just to make sure we got it right. She said the new COVID restrictions meant there were additional protocols and cleaning regimes in place. Were asking all passengers and pilots to wear disposable masks, which we supply, Lauren said. And only people who know each other can fly together. She said the aircrafts were fully sanitised between flights and extra hand sanitiser and hand-washing facilities had been set up. A TOUGH YEAR Like most tourism businesses on the island, Phillip Island Helicopters have had a difficult 2020. The Victoria bushfires saw visitor numbers drop and smoke restricted their ability to fly. This was followed by the loss of the traditionally strong Chinese New Year market. In March, Lauren told the Advertiser their business was down 70 per cent over the previous two months. Now she said the economic impact of the lockdown meant they were reopening with a much smaller team. JobKeeper was an absolute god send, she said. Without that, we would not have survived. Full story in this weeks Advertiser - out now. Subscribe online at www.pisra.com.au

18.01.2022 This pair of fluffy chicks are in what we call 'stage P3' - when they're almost ready to leave the safety of their parents' burrow and head out to sea on their ...own (fledge). Our researchers have seen a big drop in the number of chicks inside burrows on the Summerland Peninsula's south coast lately, which is very exciting, as it means most of the chicks have already fledged. The adult penguins aren’t wasting any time either! Already, we're seeing signs that suggest they are gearing up for a second breeding attempt. Stay tuned

07.01.2022 Sal and I are very excited to announce that we will be reopening our doors. On Friday the 26th June we begin takeaways & limited dine in from 8am until 2 pm dai...ly until we can reassess restrictions at the end of July. We are still limited to 10 people dine in therefore bookings are essential. We have no choice but to limit dine in meals to 1 hr per table with a maximum of 6 people per table, & 30 minutes for cake & coffee in order to make it financially viable to remain open. This is the reality we are faced with & we are very sorry as this is a difficult thing for us to do. We will also be running a limited temporary menu as it will only be Sal & myself for the moment until we are allowed more customers & are able to schedule our staff back on. We will require all dine in customers to supply their name & number & we will be continuing to keep our hygiene standards high as usual in order to ensure we follow the guidelines in place. We ask for your patience & understanding during these trying times & hope that if we all do as we should, we can return to some sort of normality very soon. We will be taking bookings from Monday 22nd between 11am & 3pm on 0410 305 981. We look forward to seeing you all again after so long & appreciate all the support we have received. See you soon Sal & Trish

02.01.2022 We are very proud to announce that our Penguin Parade visitor centre has won two categories in the 2020 Victorian Architecture Awards. Designed by Terroir, t...he centre won The William Wardell Award for Public Architecture along with the Regional Prize. The spectacular, star-shaped building sits between three distinct landscapes on the Summerland Peninsula, the site of a historic buy-back scheme which saw an entire residential estate bought back and returned to wildlife habitat. We opened the centre to the public on Thursday 25 July 2019 and it has impressed visitors from around the world since. The Australian Institute of Architects Terroir Pty Ltd See more

01.01.2022 We hope everyone is enjoying their long weekend. One of our lovely locals recently sent us these photos with the words below. We thought it was too nice not to ...share... I wanted to let you know about our amazing walk at Cape Woolamai on Tuesday. It was my first family walk after the easing of restrictions. We walked along the beach, up to The Pinnacles, the beacon and back via the woodlands. Well go back to visit the quarry next time. The amazing sunset was the icing on the cake. We are blessed by the beauty around us. Here are some photos of this beautiful part of the Nature Parks. 01.01.2022 HEARTBEAT RETURNS TO SAN REMO Local hotels have been described as the heart of the community. The heartbeat returned to San Remo this week, with both the San Re...mo Hotel and the Westernport reopening their doors. San Remo Hotel opened on Monday, with restrictions in place, including a cap of 53 patrons in the venue, a limit of six people per table and all tables set 1.5 metres apart. In line with state government directives, alcohol can only be served with meals. The Westernport Hotel opened its doors this weekend, initially only trading on Friday, Saturday and Sundays. Owner Nick Say said he will extend the trading hours to meet demand. The overwhelming feedback has been that our local community cant wait to see us re-open, and this is one of the key drivers to get the doors open again, said Nick. Every good business owner feels an obligation to look after their customers and loyal supporters, so this is what we are focusing on right now coming back bigger and better. Both hotels play a vital role in the community, actively supporting community events such as the Channel Challenge and the San Remo Fishing Festival and sponsoring many clubs and community groups. They are also dedicated fundraisers. The San Remo Hotel has a weekly karma keg and regularly hosts fundraising events, such as last years Love Your Sister afternoon with Sam Johnson. In January, the Westernport put together a local all-star line-up to raise money for Bushfire Relief. DIFFICULT DAYS The shut down and restrictions have hit the hospitality and entertainment industry hard, dealing a double blow to the two hotels successful bistros and live entertainment programs. Its been a difficult time but we have tried to make the most of it, said Nick. We have kept staff engaged with some training, we have refreshed the venue with some general maintenance and we have tried to stay engaged with our customers as best as we can. I think its fair to say weve also enjoyed some amazing time with family time that we would never have had had this situation not occurred. He said he was looking forward to getting business back to normal, including reintroducing live performances. It will be fantastic to get all our staff back on board, our suppliers re-engaged and our local musicians back on stage as soon as we can the live entertainment industry in particular has taken a huge hit. My message to everyone is to get out when you can, in a safe way, or buy some merch or an album online to support our local musicians, and get to your local pub, caf or restaurant and order up! Were all looking forward to seeing you.

01.01.2022 Only at Phillip Island!!! Amazing our backyard!!! #phillipisland#schoolcamps#yhaoz#ozyha#australia#yhaphillipisland
