18.01.2022 COWES POLICE STATION #islandhistory This small building, served as the Cowes police station for 18 years up until the 1990s.... As well as two local officers, it accommodated up to 20 additional police members working at Cowes over the Christmas holiday period. The two small offices in the building doubled as the muster room, interviewing room and meals area. A small 10foot by 6 foot area served as a breathalyser facility, property office, changeroom and fingerprint area. The building had six chairs, three desks, three kitchen tables and a couple of filing cabinets were the only other furniture. The building was a reject from the Education Department sent in a temporary capacity initially, but was in place for almost two decades. With the first GP taking place in April 1989 saw the old one room Bass police station transported to Cowes as temporary summer accommodation in 1988. Find more local history at www.pisra.com.au
